Because their breed mix is a guess we cannot guarantee a 'full grown size' of many of our younger animals.Interested in adopting me? Story
If you are looking for a dog who will be your most loyal companion with striking good looks and the best puppy eyes ever ....you’ve found her!  Meet Jessica – your typical Australian Shepherd who has a zest for life! However, Jessica is not your average family dog.  Due to her high level of intelligence and energy she needs adequate physical and mental stimulation.  Although Aussie’s enjoy being outside, hours alone in the yard isn’t going to cut it for this girl.  This breed is always looking for a “job” to do:  puzzle games, dock diving, Frisbee, agility training, Treibball, or fly ball are a few activities Jessica would thrive in.  She would love to join you on adventures to the park, breweries, kids’ sporting events, family outings, camping, or hiking.  Even an active game of fetch or a great running session with another canine companion would give her the opportunity to get those zoomies out. Any variety of these activities on a daily basis is going to keep Jessica a happy pup! Jessica comes to you house and crate trained, walks well on a leash, is well-behaved during car rides, is not vocally reactive (although she may let out the occasional “awooo!” as she’s heading out the door for her morning potty break).   She is also command trained:  she knows "sit", "down", “off”, “all done” and more!  Cats are unknown, but she seems to have a low prey drive.   With all this talk about Jessica’s energy, she does have a quiet side to her.  She is a sensitive girl and will look to you for reassurance, if she’s feeling apprehensive.  She knows her bedtime and will cue you around 7:30 PM that she’s tired and ready….are you?  But no blankets at bedtime for Miss Jessica as she’s proven she can’t resist chewing on her binkies.  Oops!   Due to Jessica’s high energy needs, below is a wish list for her forever home: Must have experience with high-energy breeds or at a minimum have a deep understanding of dog behavior.  This goes beyond being a previous dog owner. Must have the ability to be the alpha in the dog/owner relationship.  Herding and high-energy dogs need someone who can offer appropriate redirection when necessary. It is important that her forever home understand her needs for daily mental enrichment and physical activity.  Jessica needs to be in an active household! (see above for examples of what an active household may look like for Jessica) Jessica tends to show her affection by making a beeline for ears and giving love nibbles (this is a work in progress - apparently her foster’s ears are very delicious), so at this time we would recommend a household with children over 11 years old.        ##1954343##

Story
Hello to my future family…you found me! My name is Popclaw, part of “The Boys” Litter at the Rescue Crew. My momma had us while a stray…outside in the cold up north. But, after a few days, we were transported to the Twin Cities had had a great setup for the start of our lives. I have five other siblings, most of them adopted. In the pictures, you can see my breed makeup as someone kindly donated a kit to our foster mom. I am the best mutty-mutt-mix! My foster mom calls me Poppy or Pop-Pop because I like to pop up on her lap any chance that I have.  I get along with other dogs well, although don’t just throw me in the dog pit and run! Some might call me an extravert because I just love any dog or person…especially kids! There are so many dogs in my foster home! A Lab, a Pittie and a Great Pyrenees (resident dogs). There is also a younger litter and mom, and I love to play with mom when she comes out of her whelping room! I get along with all the dogs here but have my favorites. As for kids, there are no kids in the house, but at events the kids flock to me (and I to the kids!)….I love the snuggles and the energy, and will always give love in return. I would do best in a home with kids to play with!!! As a puppy, I am still getting used to lots of things. We are working on kennel training, and I eat my meals and treats in my kennel…and because of that, I realize my kennel is a super awesome place. I sleep soundly and quietly in my kennel through the night. I’m always excited for food and foster mom says I am a great eater (not picky at all)! I also LOVE treats. My favorites are cold baby carrots, frozen chunks of watermelon, and sweet potato chips! Potty training is going super well! I have learned to ring the bell to potty outside, but sometimes I just ring it to go outside…I don’t get treats when I do that. While I have had some accidents inside, I am getting much better at going outside! I love toys, especially the squeaky or crinkly ones. But my ultimate favorite is finding a cozy spot near my person and relaxing. We have started some training and are working on impulse control. I am really good at being patient for food or treats by sitting nicely. Foster mom says I am super smart and will do anything for a treat (=easy to train!). I have learned to not bite/nip at the humans, and that I only get pets and love when I have “four on the floors” (not jumping…in progress!). Foster mom also says I have the recall of a champ because I know when I “come” I get treats!  But mostly, I am just being a puppy and having a good time. I also have not destroyed anything, and for that, foster mom is super proud! Are you the family for me? Maybe you have a kid who needs a dog? Or maybe you just want the ultimate cuddler (my whole litter are master cuddlers!). I always have the sweetest look with my big puppy eyes, and am always attentive to the human. Foster mom says I don’t photograph well, but am gorgeous in person…and my coloring is becoming a beautiful black and orange that sparkles in the sun! I would do great with any family, with or without kids, with or without other dogs. Fill out an app to meet me…you won’t be disappointed! ##1943952##

Story
Meet Allie, a 2019 edition of a party colored Australian Shepherd x Border Collie weighing in at 42 lbs. This beautiful gal came to NWMNAR because her previous owner had to leave abroad to help take care of in-laws and could not take Allie with. Allie loves going to obedience class and showing how smart she is. Allie needs an Aussie savy owner her can outsmart her. She is best with dogs the same size, she has prey drive towards rabbits and may not do well with cats or other smaller animals possibly including smaller tiny dogs. Allie takes time with strangers and will often back away barking. Allie has been scared of men with hats in the past. She can be a bit barky towards other dogs on walks, but has been learning to play nice. She can be dominant towards other dogs. Allie doesn't like plastic crates, but does just fine in wire crate. Allie must be crated in a vehicle otherwise she will run around in a vehicle pushing window switches until she gets out. Allie is best to go for a walk before a car ride to ensure she doesn't nervous defecate in the vehicle. Allie hies and sleeps under the bed to keep the monsters away. Allie does like to vocalize herself if she sees other dogs outside when she is peering out the windows. She has just started to play with toys and gets groomed twice a week with a brush. Allie is available for adoption. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, Mn.
