Story
Duke has completed a long term training program and is now ready for the next chapter of his life. Duke was not treated well in the past and was pretty feral when we got him, but has come a long way in learning that humans can be nice. Duke is extremely cautious of new situations, people, & other dogs. It is my belief based on working with him for the past 2 years that Duke was completely feral & much less accepting of human interaction that originally believed. Once Duke gives you his trust, he is affectionate, playful, & fun to interact with. If pushed too hard, too fast, Duke will shut down temporarily & re-emerge when he is ready. Although Duke has no known bite history it is believed that if placed in an extremely stressful situation where he felt trapped, he would go into self-preservation defense mode, so he needs a very specific home. This sweet boy is extremely cautious with new people. Slow introductions & trust building helps him to willingly approach people he has been introduced to. Duke has exhibited same interest and disinterest to both men and women. No children under the age of 14yrs is recommended. He does not do well with younger high energy children. Duke has been dog selective. He has done best with female dogs but has accepted & played with male dogs that were established in the home when he arrived. Slow introductions strongly recommended. He has shown no prey drive including barn cats & chickens near but not easily accessible Duke has shown extremely limited interest in balls, stuffed toys, and chew toys but is an extremely athletic dog who can climb 6ft fencing. Smooth wood privacy fencing is required. Duke is 4 years old, neutered, current on immuizations and on preventatives. If you think this boy is a good fit for you and that you want to give him the life he deserves, please fill out the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
Libby was dropped off at a high-kill facility by the only family she knew after nine years as their faithful pet. Placed in a concrete cell with dozens of barking dogs all around her, she was marked for death by injection within just a few days. Now in foster care, Libby has a sweet spirit and takes her time making friends. Once you earn her trust, she will be a sweet companion. As she learns to walk on leash, she doesn’t jump on people or other animals. When she sees another dog in the neighborhood, she is curious and friendly. She tends to chase cats outdoors. Indoors, she tends to fixate and need consistent redirection. Her new people should not leave her alone with them. She has not been observed with children. She is also house-broken, crate-tolerant and very good on car rides. She knows basic commands and is beginning to show interest in play as she decompresses. Libby would do best in a home with a low to moderate activity level. If you think like Libby sounds like a great fit for you, please fill out the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.

Story
** COURTESY POST ** ** This animal is NOT at the Rowlett Animal Shelter, so please do not inquire with them ** ** For information contact Tracy Johnson; 214-697-7362 ** Meet Scout (aka Muffin.  The shelter called her Muffin, but we felt Scout was a better fit.  Feel free to re-name her when she is yours).  This soft-coated, beautiful dog is being fostered by our son in who is a college student in Waco, but Scout frequently visits us in Rowlett and will be with us most of July.  Scout is believed to be an Australian Shepherd mix, approximately 2 years old.  She is energetic, smart and loves to cuddle.  She is trained to sit & fetch, loves to go on walks and can entertain herself with her toys.   I cannot say enough wonderful things about Scout and would love to keep her, however we recommend that Scout goes to a home where she will be the only pet. She LOVES humans, smiles when she sees them, but Scout does not get along with other dogs (of any size) or cats.   Our male dog was incompatible with Scout as he can be skittish and aggressive.   After getting to know this sweet girl, we are confident she will be an amazing pet for the right person or family.  Scout is a true angel with our special needs nephew. Actually, everyone Scout meets falls in love with her, especially the neighborhood kids.   She is also great in the car (road trips or running errands)  she’s a little doll in public stores.   Also, she rarely has an accident in the house and is crate trained. Scout has been spayed.  At this time, she is heartworm positive, but scheduled for treatment in Waco on July 17th.   We will take care of this expense and will provide heartworm prevention medication for one year. We are committed to finding her a home as the Waco shelter does euthanize and we are not going to allow that to happen. Please contact us if you are interested.   We have plenty of videos and pictures to share.April 25, 2024, 6:53 pm

Story
Sammy is an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. He is approximately 1 year old and weighs 69 pounds. He was found running on a highway and was scared to death. A lovely couple picked him up and had his shots done. Sammy is neutered and would do better with a family with no children. He loves to play with other dogs and has lots of energy to run and play. He is a great medium sized dog and has a gorgeous coat and beautiful eyes. In concern for families with small children, we will not adopt a dog to a home with any child under the age of 5. Reese is the prettiest girl around! She is all the good things: great on leash, in car and kennel. She is good with people of all ages, and dogs as well. We suspect she would do great with cats. She really is the sweetest! Aussie's are active and require daily activity, exercise and enrichment. If you can offer that to Reese, we'd love to chat with you! ##1987716##

Story
Milo was born in August 2018 and we got him when he was around 6 months old. I've trained him on all the basic commands: sit, lay down, speak, stay, crate, etc. He's very smart and is food-motivated. He's a sweet dog to his owners, but he's slow to warm up to strangers (people and other dogs). He is skittish and it takes some time and dog treats before he gets comfortable around a new face. He is very protective. Milo is a reactionary biter. Usually when grooming him, he'll snap at you if you touch his paw wrong. We've learned to use a muzzle and that makes it possible. Milo is also crate trained. He loves his crate, it's his safe space and feels the most comfortable there. He's house-trained and would be a great dog for anyone looking for a loyal friend.

Story
We are looking for an experienced foster/adopter for Daisy. Although she is sweet and beautiful to look at, Daisy does not seek out human interaction at this time. Daisy comes to us from a hoarding situation. Due to lack of socialization she is extremely shy and needs a foster who understands fearful dogs and has both the patience and knowledge to work with Daisy. Daisy LOVES other dogs and must have a foster home with at least one confident dog. She also definitely needs a home with a secure fenced yard. Busy households or those with young kiddos will most likely be too much for sweet Daisy. We have had several dogs come into our rescue from this particular hoarding situation. Each one has made progress on their own individual timeline. Given time and the proper environment, Daisy can experience success as well. Our support network of fosters, adopters and resident trainers is available to help. Dallas Dog does not give up on ANY of our animals. All Dallas Dog adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. You can complete an application or view all the adoptable pets on our website at http://dallasdog.org/adopt. Upon receiving your application please allow us 2-3 business days to review and process.
