Story
We’re not sure if she has Betty Davis eyes, but we are CERTAIN that TNT’s Betty Davis has the cutest underbite! She’s a 2.5 year old Boxer lady with the most wiggly lil tail nubbin! So far, Betty has done very well with other dogs and is always trying to engage in play. She’s very gentle and respectful of boundaries, so she’d probably do fine with cats, too. Given her demeanor, we think Betty would make a great family dog and could be a wonderful companion for respectful children. Betty’s foster family has started working with her on her training needs. She is looking for a loving family who will remain committed to continuing her socialization, training, and confidence building! Though she is shy, she is very sweet and interested in making friends! She just needs a home where she can figure things out at her pace! Apply to meet Betty Davis if she sounds like the perfect gem for your home! Betty Davis's adoption fee is $550

Story
Hello, My name is Broulee and I am as sweet as the dessert I’m named after! I’m a 2 year old boxer/lab mix, and certified goodest girl! Size: medium. (60 pounds with legs for days) Energy level: medium ( am equally happy to go for a walk or have a Netflix marathon on the couch. I do get rambunctious when I first get out of my crate). Good with kids: Yes! I love humans of all ages and sizes, but I would likely do best with kids age 5+ as I’m just a goofball who doesn’t realize her size and I am still learning that I don’t need to put my paws up on people to get attention. Good with dogs: Yes! I am dog friendly and currently live with three resident dogs. I also wouldn’t mind having all the attention to myself though. Good with cats: Unknown Crates: Yes, I go into my crate without complaint when my foster family leaves. I also sleep all night in the crate but I think I would be happy to sleep in bed if allowed. House-training: Yes, as long as I have a fenced yard to do my business in. I will not potty on a leash. Tricks: I know the sit command. I am smart and can surely learn more, but who needs tricks when you can dazzle with your good looks and world class cuddles! Leash: I am good on a leash and love walks. I am not a puller and I am not reactive. I have so much love to give and would love to be part of a forever family! If you’d like to meet me call Teri at 630-897-7454. My adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Meet Rudy 💙 Rudy is 5-6 years old and is a deeply affectionate, people-loving boy who thrives on closeness with his humans. He loves cuddling, being petted, and will happily sleep next to you at night. Wherever you go, Rudy is likely to follow — often carrying his favorite soothing toy in his mouth for comfort. He is good with other dogs, big and small. He is also good with little kids. Rudy knows basic commands and is fully housebroken, which makes settling into a new home much easier. He enjoys playtime, especially tug-of-war, and he takes his toy destruction job very seriously (squeaker toys beware!). He walks well on leash and does best wearing a harness, ideally a front-clip harness. He may pull a little and can bark when he sees people out on walks, but he recovers quickly and continues on. This behavior appears to be excitement or uncertainty rather than aggression, and with consistency, patience, and positive training, it continues to improve. Rudy is not a fan of being confined away from his people. He will voluntarily rest in his crate when it’s open and his human is nearby, but being crated while left alone is stressful for him. He would do best in a home that understands this and is willing to help him gradually build confidence with alone time. With stability, routine, and love, Rudy truly shines. He is a cuddly, loyal companion who bonds deeply and brings a lot of joy to those around him. He’s looking for a patient, loving home that will help him continue to grow into the amazing dog he already is. If you would like to meet this dog, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Looking for the Right Home for a Very Special Boy ❤️ Our 7-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer mix is deeply loved and has been a cherished member of our family for many years. After a lot of soul-searching, tears, and difficult conversations, we’ve made the heartbreaking decision to find him a home that better fits his needs and keeps everyone safe as our family grows. Let’s start with the good stuff: If you’re part of his inner circle, you are his people. He is incredibly affectionate, loyal, goofy, and loving with those he trusts. He’s the type of dog who believes personal space is optional and would happily spend his days following you from room to room as your furry shadow. He loves his family fiercely and takes his job as “Head of Household Security” very seriously. Now for the honest part (because he deserves a home that knows exactly who he is): Our boy is not a social butterfly. In fact, he would probably like me to tell you that other dogs are highly overrated. He has a history of aggression toward other dogs and has bitten dogs in the past. He is also wary of some men and has nipped at men before. He can be skittish and anxious in unfamiliar situations and around unfamiliar people. Because of this, he needs: • An experienced dog owner • A home without young children • A home where he is the only pet • Someone who understands and respects his boundaries • A calm, structured environment We think he may do best with a single woman or a patient, loving couple willing to take the time to earn his trust and give him the stability he craves. He’s crate-trained, generally does well on walks, and thrives when he knows what to expect. Once he trusts you, his loyalty is unmatched. We are not rehoming him because we don’t love him. In fact, we’re rehoming him because we do. We want him to have the safest, happiest life possible, and we feel that his needs no longer align with the realities of our growing family. This decision has broken our hearts, and finding the right home matters far more to us than finding a quick one. We are committed to being completely transparent because he deserves a family who loves him for exactly who he is—quirks, flaws, giant heart, and all. If you think you might be that person, we’d love to talk.

Story
Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. Story
Rory 3 months old 20 pounds Female Mixed breed If you're out on your own, feeling lonely and so cold. All you gotta do is call Rory and I’ll be there as your best friend! **Hi, I’m Rory, and I can’t wait to meet you!** I’m currently living with three doggy siblings and two senior cats. I’m so friendly that I greet new friends with sweet little kisses on their hands and will immediately ask to be picked up for some cuddles. I’m a curious and adventurous pup who loves exploring, but I always stay close to my foster moms. Recently, my foster mom took me out without a leash, and I was so attentive that the moment I lost sight of her, I ran straight back to find her. She says my recall is really impressive, even with just a little training! I’ve also been showing off my fetch skills by consistently bringing the ball back when called. I adore playing and cuddling with dogs of all sizes. I learn quickly by watching my older foster sisters and love play-fighting with my 50-pound and 80-pound sisters. I’m also very respectful of our oldest foster sister, who prefers quieter times. I’m curious about cats, too — but I always give them space. One kitty has even started napping on the couch next to me because I’m so calm and respectful around them. When I’m not busy playing, I love to relax. You’ll often find me sprawled out on the couch or curled up on a dog bed surrounded by my toys. I’m pretty independent and very good at entertaining myself while my foster moms work and my foster sisters nap. My foster moms say I’m a quick learner — I’m already picking up commands like “no,” “come,” “sit,” and “leave it.” Since I’m still young, housetraining is just getting started, but I’m doing great with indoor potty pads and am beginning to walk toward the front door when I need to go outside. At night, I sleep in a cozy crate with my favorite lamb toy. I sleep well through the night and rarely have accidents in the crate. In the morning I run straight to the front door after my foster mom lets me out of my crate, so that I can go pee outside. Then I curl up on the couch with my foster mom to grab a few more hours of sleep. I’m also a car ride rock star — I usually fall asleep right away and don’t cry on trips. If you’re looking for a playful, cuddly puppy to join your adventures and snuggle sessions, please contact Safe Haven about me — I can’t wait to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $465. We offer a $15 discount for adopters who pay by cash or check, making the adoption fee $450. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at one of our participating veterinarians, age-appropriate core vaccinations, fecal test, deworming, current on flea and tick preventative, and microchip. To ensure the best match for both our dogs and adopters, we require a fully completed adoption application, a phone interview, and a meet-and-greet with the entire household. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. Submitting an application does not guarantee adoption and does not obligate you to adopt; it simply allows us to begin the review process. To request an application or for additional details, please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.
