Story
Every dog has a story to tell. Some are “tails” of happiness and some are sorrowful. I like to think mine is of hope. My name is SPIKE. When my owner passed away, I was brought to the local animal shelter in Indiana. I was petrified. You see, my whole life of 10 years was spent in a crate in my owner’s home. I was only free of my prison when I went outside to relieve myself. This was the only time I got to see the light of day. After I finished my business, right back in my kennel did I go. Now, all of a sudden, I am in a noisy shelter with all these new sights and unknown people. It broke the shelter worker’s hearts to see me flinch when they would make any movement or try to pet me. Even when I was so scared, I never showed any signs of aggression. Rover Rescue was contacted, along with many other rescues, as the shelter workers recognized what a good boy I am. They knew I deserved to know what love was for the very first time. When my foster mom heard about me, she just knew that she could help! She was so excited to meet me. I knew my life was going to be just fine when I got my very first pup cup on my freedom ride from the shelter. What strides I have made from that first day! I have visited the vet office and was told that I was a very brave patient. It was determined that I am a Boxer Mix and based on my health, the veterinarian would put me between 7 to 9 years old. I weighed in at 60 pounds but could use another 3 to 5 pounds to reach my ideal weight. With my love of treats, that should be no problem. On a side note, I take yummies very gently. I no longer sit in a corner facing the wall, but now am an active participant in the house. I have proven to be housebroken and not destructive in any way. Due to my past, I have not been confined in a crate. However, I can be found curled up for a good snooze in one with the door open. I will now jump on the couch and ask for attention. I may still duck my head at times, but I do love to get pets and to be snuggled. Every day, I am gaining more and more confidence. The other dogs in the house have helped immensely. I love to run and chase and play with them. My foster mom says I am making up for the times I missed as a puppy. She was so thrilled when I picked up my first toy and tried to “kill” it by shaking my head. I am finally being the dog I was meant to be; a happy and loved one. Don’t be surprised if I am nervous when I first meet new people. I can still be timid in new situations. For this reason, I am a better fit for a home with older children or an adult only home. A securely fenced yard is needed so I can stretch my legs and be kept safe. Another doggy friend would be great, but I could also be an only furchild. I am still learning how to walk on a leash. I no longer pancake out flat, but could use some practice with my leash skills. I ride well in the car but will need a booty boost to get in the backseat. I would love to be your travel companion, especially if we go for pup cups! If you are looking to add a sweet member to your family, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. My adoption fee is $150. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Meet Muffin! She is a deliciously sweet boxer mix girl who is looking for her FURever home. Muffin is around a year old and about 40 lbs. The first thing about Muffin that makes you fall for her is the way she looks at you and the color of her eyes. Muffin would be a great addition to any family that has someone that can be home with her most of the day or works from home.  She can get anxious when not by her humans, but Starfish is committed to helping her new family with training support so that Muffin knows she is always safe. She is a wonderful dog. She has never had any accidents in the house. She is great on walks. She listens and learned how to sit almost immediately. She is very playful and aims to please. Muffin learned to play fetch and loves it. She enjoys activity, but will also lay with you and relax. This sweet girl deserves the best - please complete the application to meet her.  The adoption fee of $200 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Story
Meet Stormy! 3 years 53 lbs Stormy is a classic case of a crawl right in your heart pup, both figuratively and literally! She loves her people very passionately and quite possibly knows no limit to receiving pets and cuddles. She is really one of the most loving dogs ever! Stormy is also extremely quiet, she sleeps very well in a crate and loves to do the spins for treats and in just about any circumstance. She can be timid at first and a bit shy but if you take the slow approach and give her time she will show you all of the affection in the world. Her house skills are fairly well mannered. She does not bark when guests arrive nor does she rush the door. She has done well with kids! She will take advantage of furniture and occasionally likes to chew things so best in a crate if you are gone for her safety! Stormy has been staying with a dog trainer for several months so her training is incredible! The trainer would be willing to stay in touch with the adoptive family to help set them up for success as well. Stormy is good with other dogs! She is definitely a no for being around cats though. Her leash skills are great and she doesn’t pull and tires quickly. This beautiful girl is Rescued Rascals’ longest term dog, she has been us with us since April 2023. She is such a loving girl and we cannot wait for the right family to fall in love with her! Overall, her foster family truly adores this dog and we know the right family will as well. She is an enormous big eyed baby!!m Interested in adopting? Submit an adoption application on our website rescuedrascalsil.org! We will review your application at our earliest convenience. If your application is selected, we will contact you for a phone interview. From there, we’d schedule a meet and greet with the dog to make sure it is a great fit for adoption for the whole family and any other dogs in your home. Questions about adoption? Story
Meet Artemis! 3 years 51 lbs Artemis was found down in Tennessee. She’s had multiple litters and now this momma is ready to find her forever home! We think Artemis has spent a lot of her life in a crate: When she came to us she would not leave the crate! Her current foster family is working on getting her confident outside of the crate. She still has access to her bed for comfort when she gets nervous. Artemis is house trained and is left out of the crate when foster family leaves. She does not have accidents and goes outside in a fenced in backyard or while on a leashed walk. She is very quiet and low-key, but discovering a playful side. She gets a daily 10-20min leisurely walk but we are working on going longer. If she is feeling uncomfortable she will refuse to continue walking and pull on her leash to head back home. If you are the right family for Artemis please note that you will need to continue to work on building her confidence on walks! She is great on a leash and is not reactive to other dogs or people, but loud noises might scare her and if she wants to turn around and go home she is VERY strong. Artemis needs to be adopted by a family with another dog to continue developing her confidence. She loves snuggling with her foster sister (Penny, Australian cattle dog) and they share a water bowl. Does not share food bowl but can be fed at same time. No food aggression, no eating from each other’s bowls, no toy aggression, etc. She loves playing with her two toys, a teddy bear and a lamb stuffed animal. Once she is comfortable with your family she will toss it in the air and catch it and wrestle with it. It is the cutest thing to watch! She also LOVES to play tug of war. She loves to chew on bones and likes pretty much all human food. She is very gentle when taking treats. Artemis likes squeaky toys, supervising human kitchen activity, helping load the dishwasher, following current foster family around, cuddling & belly rubs, meats and cheeses, popcorn, sunbathing, couches, blankets, beds. She does not like walks if she hears a loud noise, carrots, and vegetables of any sort, and sometimes she will bark if a certain family member(s) left the house and she cannot find them. What is Artemis working on? Being a dog! She is starting to break out of her shell and will need a family that has another dog to build her confidence. Also working on going outside and just “enjoying” and sniffing around. Previously would just do her business and then return to her crate/corner for safety. She has not been around cats. Her current foster family includes a 6yr old girl and 9yr old boy. Kids need to be dog savvy since she is easily spooked. She’d do fine in a home with older kids or no kids too. She doesn’t know the name Artemis but (sometimes) responds to the name Missy. Foster family has been calling her “Artemissy! If you are the right fit for Artemis you must be a patient person. You must be willing to put in the work. She will not come to you…you need to go to her consistently and frustration free. This is no quick fix. Expect to work building her trust with humans every single day for a long time. But, if you are the right person, she is truly a diamond in the rough and it will be so rewarding to watch her blossom! Interested in adopting? Submit an adoption application on our website rescuedrascalsil.org! We will review your application at our earliest convenience. If your application is selected, we will contact you for a phone interview. From there, we’d schedule a meet and greet with the dog to make sure it is a great fit for adoption for the whole family and any other dogs in your home. Questions about adoption?
