Story
Roman: The Big Lug Looking for a Soft Place to Land Hi. I am Roman. I am a 65 pound Boxer mix with the kind of face that makes people smile even before I do anything. I am a big soft lug who wants a porch, a sofa, and a human who likes slow pats on the head. My energy is just right. I can hang out, go for a walk, sniff around the yard, then come inside and settle next to you. I walk well on a leash. I do not make things hard. I like being easy. I dont want any ruckus. I get along with male and female dogs. I am a gentleman until someone tries to boss me around. I do not start trouble, but I also do not let pushy dogs run the show. I usually get along best with female dogs. Having said that, I have a rescue buddy (male) here and we do great together. We move at the same pace. We enjoy the same simple things. So I guess, like you humans, it's if our personalities get along! People say I am the kind of dog who makes life feel calmer. I am not loud. I am not clingy. I am just present. Sit with me for two minutes and you will get it. I am the dog who leans into your leg and lets out a long breath. I make the world feel lighter. If you want a sweet older boy who loves porch time, couch time, and just being near you, I am your guy. I am ready for my home. Apply to foster or adopt me and let’s make some quiet, good memories together. A generous donor heard of Roman's story and has offered to help sponsor Roman's adoption fee. We are thrilled to announce that if you adopt Roman, your adoption fee is reduced to $250. Adorable Roman is ready for a loving home! Apply today. ##2537421##

Meet Pepper & Princess – A Beautiful Boxer Duo 💕 Pepper and her daughter Princess are a bonded pair of Boxers with hearts as big as their smiles. They came into our rescue several months ago after their owner experienced life changes and could no longer care for them. When they arrived, both girls were underweight and had never received proper veterinary care. They were heartworm positive and neither had been spayed. Thanks to the love and dedication of our rescue, Pepper and Princess are now fully up to date on vaccines and have successfully completed heartworm treatment. They’ve come such a long way and are healthier, happier, and ready for their next chapter. Personality-wise, these two are absolute gems. They are incredibly sweet, gentle, and polite — no jumping here! They do wonderfully with other dogs, puppies, and even cats. Their calm, loving nature makes them a joy to be around. Pepper and Princess are crate trained and stay in their crates when left home alone. Their crates are their cozy, safe spaces, and they settle in without any issues. These girls would thrive in a home where they can truly be part of the family — lounging nearby, soaking up love, and enjoying life together. Because of their close bond, it would be a dream come true for them to be adopted together, though the most important thing is finding them a loving, stable home. If you’re looking for loyal companions with gentle hearts and a touching story of resilience, Pepper and Princess may be the perfect match for you. If you are interested in these two girls, please message us and we will send you an application. They are being fostered in MS but included in your adoption fee is transport to a location near you by Rescue Riders Pet Transport, the most animal friendly transport on the road!

Story
Age/Birthdate: 01/30/2022 • Weight: 70lbs• Breed Guess: Pittie mix • Fully Vetted: Yes • Adoption fee: Has been generously sponsored by her foster family! Temperament with: Dogs: Prefers to be an only dog in home. Cats: Not a fan of kitties Children list specific ages: She lives with kiddos but would probably do best with teenagers or in an all adult home! Strangers: She is great with women but she can be weary of men Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes Potty Trained: Yes Chelsea is a SPIRITED Pittie mix weighing in around 70 pounds at just under 4 years old! She LOVES her toys and can be full of energy during playtime and she’s a BIG fan of car rides and walks! While she used to be afraid of water, she’s gotten much better with baths through diligent work with her foster family! This smart girl REALLY loves treats and will happily work for them making training easy! Speaking of being smart, she does knows how to open push-down door handles- be impressed AND be ready to child-lock your doors lol! She enjoys lounging on soft beds and is a wonderful cuddle buddy at night, often nudging your hand or lifting your arm with her nose to ask for more love which is the sweetest thing ever! Her personality is a fun mix of goofy, moody, and affectionate! She doesn’t bark much and usually only speaks up when she’s excited or when she feels the need to step in if the kids start arguing (she's the bossman around here lol)! She can get overly excited during play, so hands should stay away from her mouth (she is a mouthy gal), and she does best with calm, structured interactions! Regardless of her bossman front she puts on, she can be a scaredy baby as thunderstorms can scare her, but she finds comfort in being close to her trusted people! Chelsea is also a reactive dog who has made steady progress with the right structure and tools! She now walks well on a leash, especially with a prong collar, as she’s surprisingly strong for her size. Without it, she can be difficult to walk alongside other dogs. She has a history of reacting to the male dogs in her home, so careful management is important. She also eats separately from the other dogs and has shown food-related growling before, though she has improved as her trust grows! Feeding her separately/in her crate is what's easiest for everyone- it keeps everyone, safe, happy, and well fed! Because of her sensitivities, Chelsea will thrive in an older teenager/adult-only home. She is fearful of men and teenage boys and can become growly if startled/their is rambunctious behavior going on (unpredictable to her), although she has made progress as she’s accepted pets from men while out on walks or in stores with proper introductions! It's clear that men haven't always treated this girl right and she so with a family of adults and older, calmer kids, she will bond deeply and show her sweetest side! Chelsea is incredibly smart, full of personality, and loyal once she trusts you! She’s not destructive, does well free-roaming, and is crate trained when her family leaves. She’ll even use her paw to sneak a bone or counter surf if she thinks she can get away with it lol! Underneath all her quirks is a loving, snuggly dog who wants connection, structure, and a family who understands her. If you’re looking for a clever, cuddly, adventurous companion who will adore you with her whole heart, Chelsea just might be your girl. If you're interested in meeting spirited Chelsea, please fill out the application below! www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. Breed and Age Information: Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners. The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue) Microchip Rabies vaccine DHPP vaccine Bordetella vaccine 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease) General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care.

Story
Age/Birthdate: 10/14/2022 • Current Weight: 53lbs • Breed Guess: Pittie mix • Fully Vetted: Yes • Adoption fee: $350 Any Medical or Special needs: None! Temperament with: Dogs: Lives with a few but needs VERY slow introductions Cats: Unknown Children list specific ages: Probably older kiddos as she likes to jump Strangers: Has never met a stranger and is very outgoing! Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes and absolutely LOVES her crate! Potty Trained: Yes Kia is a low rider pittie (coming just up to knee height) with a gentle soul who is still learning what safety truly feels like. It is very clear from her behavior that she was abused by people in her past and used for breeding. Because of this, Kia is sensitive to loud voices and raised arms and cannot live in a home where yelling occurs. She needs a calm, patient household where she can feel secure and respected. Despite her past, Kia is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She loves belly rubs and happily rolls over for affection once she feels comfortable. She’s a low-energy girl, and one walk a day easily meets her needs. Like many pitties, she can get excitable and may jump during happy moments, but she settles down quite quickly and enjoys relaxing the rest of the time. Kia truly excels at downtime. She spends most of her day napping in a cozy bed or curled up in her crate, which is her safe space and her favorite place to be. She eagerly runs to her crate every chance she gets and is perfectly content snoozing the day away. Because of this, Kia is an excellent match for someone with long work hours, as she’s happy to relax and rest in her crate while you’re away. She enjoys car rides and will gladly hop in and out of the truck. Around the house, Kia is easygoing and trustworthy—she is not destructive, does not counter surf, and can be left out. She’s generally on the quiet side and does well during bath time. Kia spent just under a year in the shelter, which had a lasting impact. She is friendly with other dogs but struggles to fully trust them at this time. Dog introductions must be done very slowly, and working with a professional trainer is strongly recommended. Her foster continues to help her rebuild confidence and trust. Kia is also still learning what food security means and may snatch treats or scarf down meals, but with patience and consistency, she continues to improve. Kia is searching for a calm, compassionate home where her boundaries are respected and her need for peace is understood. In return, she offers quiet companionship, deep loyalty, and endless belly-rub moments. If you’re looking for a mellow companion who just wants a safe place to rest and be loved, Kia may be the perfect fit! If you're interested in meeting sweet Kia, please fill out the application below! www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Estimated Age/Birthdate: 09/22/2022 • Current Weight: 43lbs • Breed Guess: Pittie mix • Fully Vetted: Yes • Adoption fee: $350 Any Medical or Special needs: None Temperament with: Dogs: Great! Cats: Unknown Children list specific ages: Literally loves ALL people but might do well with kiddos who are a tad older, maybe 4th grade and older as he LOVES food and will happily steal food out of little kiddos hands! Strangers: Has never met a stranger in his life! Rex is EXTREMELY confident and outgoing! Training Needs: Crate Trained: Yes! Potty Trained: Yes! He hasn't had an accident since coming to his foster home! Rex is a SUPER outgoing Pittie mix weighing in at a light 43 pounds! He is EXTREMELY outgoing and is happy to meet anyone and everyone! That same mindset applies for dogs too! Rex LOVES all dogs big (110 pounds) and small (25 pounds) and has no food, toy, or water aggression towards people or other dogs! As Rex is such a social boy, he would LOVE another friend to play with! Additionally, Rex is a great mix of energy! He is SO down for walks, bike rides, car rides, or any other adventure you might want to go on but also has no problem relaxing! His foster mom works at an accounting firm (she takes him with to work quite often) and he has no problem relaxing for 8 hours a day while they're at work together! While there, he happily greets anyone he meets! In typical pittie fashion, he is very excitable during first meets or exciting moments but also in typical pittie fashion, calms down quickly and will relax! He does like to jump up for hugs which his foster mom is working on but how can you say no to a hug! Additionally, Rex is potty trained to a T and hasn't had a single accident since leaving the shelter! He is AMAZING during bath time, has no problem with his ears, toes, mouth, or tail being handled as he is so docile (this is awesome, especially during vet visits) and, is great in the car (will even jump in and out without help)! While Rex might sound perfect, this boy does come with quirks lol! He is quite demanding- during training, if he thinks he has done enough tricks and deserves a treat, he will tell you lol! Rex is EXTREMELY smart and LOVES training- he already knows sit and paw, is working on wait, and is working to sit before going in and out of doors! He is EXTREMELY food motivated which makes training him a total breeze but he is obsessed with food to a fault and will happily counter surf (still learning how to beat bad habits from the shelter). Other than counter surfing and occasionally being sassy and demanding treats lol, this boy could be considered essentially perfect! He isn't destructive so once his counter surfing habit is broken, he could easily be left out of the house while you're away but in the meantime, he is crate trained! Rex even knows the word "cagies" and will VERY excitedly run to his cage and sit where he will wait for a treat (see, the food obsession comes in handy)! If you're looking for a versatile dog who is foundationally great but needs just a little bit of training, Rex is your guy! If you're interested in meeting outgoing Rex, please fill out the application below! www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval.
