Story
Meet Charlie: The Family Dog You Didn’t Know You Needed (But Totally Do) Okay, here's the tea—Charlie is a two-year-old Boxer/Hound mix who ended up in need of a new home thanks to a tale as old as time: baby enters stage left, dog exits stage right. Yeah, it’s that classic “we had a baby and now we can’t keep up with the dog” situation. Their loss? 100% your gain. Charlie is a lovable goofball with a heart of gold and energy for days. She’s playful, spunky, and thrives in a home where zoomies are encouraged and tug-of-war is a sport. She’d do best with active humans or other dogs who can keep up with her enthusiasm for life. She's not aggressive at all—just sometimes forgets she's not a lapdog and may bump into tiny humans when she's excited. (Who among us hasn’t bulldozed a coffee table in our joy?) The good news? She’s spayed, fully vetted, up to date on all shots, microchipped, good with cats, and ready to be your new best friend. Basically, the hard work’s been done—she’s ready to move in and start living her best life. Looking for a playmate for your current pup? A hiking buddy? A dog who brings joy, laughs, and probably a little bit of chaos (the fun kind)? Charlie’s your girl. If you want to meet this amazing pup, email Jenn and Hannah @ ruffners1880@gmail.com Adoption fee: $275. Charlie’s looking for a fresh start—maybe with you. She’s got the love, the training, and the wiggly butt. All that’s missing is her forever family. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Are you looking for your ride or die? Look no further. Rider is here to apply for the position. He is a 2.5 year old Boxer mix that weighs in just shy of 70 pounds. Rider has been looking for his forever home for awhile. He was found as a stray October of 2023 in Southern Indiana. He eventually made his way up to Rover Rescue. He has gone through 2 knee surgeries which has delayed finding his finding his forever home. He is ready to settle down. We have him on a joint supplement to help with arthritis from his surgeries. He is also on a single protein diet and probiotics due to a sensitive stomach. He has been doing well with these though. Rider does need an adult only home. He also needs a dog savvy owner. He likes to see what he can get away with and needs someone to continue working on his manners. He has come a long way in his time with Rover Rescue. Rider loves car rides. He thinks there is nothing better than sticking his head out the window and feeling the wind in his face. We do seatbelt him in for his safety. Rider also loves walks. After his knee surgeries we are building up his endurance. He does tend to get excited and pull, but minds the gentle leader. Rider is living with 2 smaller dogs. He loves to romp and play with his foster brother. He respects his crabby older sister. He does need slow introductions. He can sometimes get fussy with new friends at events. We think it may be a little leash reactivity. He may do best with a submissive female. We have noticed some prey drive with Rider and would recommend a home without cats no cats or small animals. Rider is crated while his family is away and at night. He will go in willingly for treats. Sometimes he may sing a little song when his family first leaves, but will settle down. Treat toys sometimes help too. Rider is fully house trained and has not had any accidents. Rider is overall a pretty laid back guy. At night he loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch with his people. Rider may seem a little rough around the edges at first but will be a loyal companion with some work. He wants to please his people. Please give this guy a chance. If you would like to meet him, please call Annie at 815-685-0746. His adoption fee is $275. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Meet Kokomo Joe! Looking for a big, lovable goofball to brighten your days? Look no further—Kokomo Joe is here! This 80-85+ lb mixed breed boy may have had a rough start in Texas, but he's ready to leave his past behind and find a forever home filled with love and belly rubs. Kokomo Joe's story is heartbreaking—he was abandoned and starved when his previous owner was incarcerated, leaving him to fend for himself while his housemates were fed. When he first arrived, he was painfully thin, with every rib and his hip bones showing. He also had some food aggression, but who could blame him after all he'd been through? Thankfully, with regular meals and love, he now understands he’ll never go hungry again. He’s no longer protective of his food and hasn’t shown any signs of food aggression since. Despite his past, Kokomo Joe’s spirit shines bright! He’s a true fun-loving goober who doesn’t realize his own size. Whether he’s hopping around like Tigger or cuddling up as if he’s a tiny lap dog, this big guy will keep you smiling. His crate and house manners are spot-on—zero accidents here! He’s even learned to move his crate across the floor, proving he’s as strong as he is sweet. Kokomo Joe gets along with other dogs with proper introductions and would thrive in a home that can continue his training and give him the structure he needs. His ideal family will embrace his goofy, big-hearted nature and help him become the best boy he can be. If you’re ready to welcome this big, bouncy cuddle bug into your life, Kokomo Joe is ready to meet you! Our standard adoption fee is $375 cash or check and $385 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.

Story
Bodie (also known as Brownie) is a 1-year-old Boxer/Pittie mix with a zest for life and a heart full of love! Weighing around 40 pounds, this energetic pup is always ready for action and still has plenty of playful puppy energy to burn. He absolutely loves running around in the yard, playing with his toys, and making new canine friends. Bodie thrives in the company of other dogs and has become quite the social butterfly at Hounds Town, never failing to get the whole room moving with his infectious enthusiasm. Because of his high-energy nature, Bodie would do best in a home with kids 10 and older who can keep up with his playful spirit. A home without cats is preferred. If you're looking for a fun-loving, active companion who will bring excitement and joy into your life, Bodie is the perfect pup for you! Apply today to meet this lovable goofball!   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  .
