Story
Every dog has a story to tell. Some are “tails” of happiness and some are sorrowful. I like to think mine is of hope. My name is SPIKE. When my owner passed away, I was brought to the local animal shelter in Indiana. I was petrified. You see, my whole life of 10 years was spent in a crate in my owner’s home. I was only free of my prison when I went outside to relieve myself. This was the only time I got to see the light of day. After I finished my business, right back in my kennel did I go. Now, all of a sudden, I am in a noisy shelter with all these new sights and unknown people. It broke the shelter worker’s hearts to see me flinch when they would make any movement or try to pet me. Even when I was so scared, I never showed any signs of aggression. Rover Rescue was contacted, along with many other rescues, as the shelter workers recognized what a good boy I am. They knew I deserved to know what love was for the very first time. When my foster mom heard about me, she just knew that she could help! She was so excited to meet me. I knew my life was going to be just fine when I got my very first pup cup on my freedom ride from the shelter. What strides I have made from that first day! I have visited the vet office and was told that I was a very brave patient. It was determined that I am a Boxer Mix and based on my health, the veterinarian would put me between 7 to 9 years old. I weighed in at 60 pounds but could use another 3 to 5 pounds to reach my ideal weight. With my love of treats, that should be no problem. On a side note, I take yummies very gently. I no longer sit in a corner facing the wall, but now am an active participant in the house. I have proven to be housebroken and not destructive in any way. Due to my past, I have not been confined in a crate. However, I can be found curled up for a good snooze in one with the door open. I will now jump on the couch and ask for attention. I may still duck my head at times, but I do love to get pets and to be snuggled. Every day, I am gaining more and more confidence. The other dogs in the house have helped immensely. I love to run and chase and play with them. My foster mom says I am making up for the times I missed as a puppy. She was so thrilled when I picked up my first toy and tried to “kill” it by shaking my head. I am finally being the dog I was meant to be; a happy and loved one. Don’t be surprised if I am nervous when I first meet new people. I can still be timid in new situations. For this reason, I am a better fit for a home with older children or an adult only home. A securely fenced yard is needed so I can stretch my legs and be kept safe. Another doggy friend would be great, but I could also be an only furchild. I am still learning how to walk on a leash. I no longer pancake out flat, but could use some practice with my leash skills. I ride well in the car but will need a booty boost to get in the backseat. I would love to be your travel companion, especially if we go for pup cups! If you are looking to add a sweet member to your family, please call Teri at 630-897-7454. My adoption fee is $150. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming

Story
Gypsy was a stray. A man in Raymond, Mississippi found her and took her to the pound. They were going to euthanize her, and he took her home. She did not like his cats, so he surrendered her to us. She LOVES to run and play, and she needs a lot of exercise. She does good with most all dogs, but she is shy when she meets new people. Gypsy does not like cats! Once she warms up to people, she just wants to give kisses! Her ideal home would be a person or family that has a large yard for her to run and play in. She would be the best dog to do activities with or just cuddle with on the couch. She should be fine in a large, fenced yard. She can be hyper at times but settles down nicely inside with a chew toy. Gypsy is in boarding now, and she desperately needs a forever family!! We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Rescue Riders Pet Transport.

East TN. Out of state welcome! If you are seeing this on adopt a pet the float for transport and health certificates for travel are included in the adoption fee. Transport may be available to your area in the northeast or Great Lakes areas. We use Rescue riders for our transport needs because they are amazing with our pups! Meet Thumper! This little guy is about 40 lbs of playful and fun energy. He’s sweet and good with people and other dogs. He’s about 2.5 years old and is a mixed breed but a really cool Mixed breed. I mean look at his cute ears. He’s adorable. He’s already crate trained and house trained. NO CATS. He is not fond of cats. Probably won’t do well with smaller rodent type animals either. He will scream SQUIRREL! And the rest is history. Haha. He would do well with children over the age of 10 because he’s very playful and may knock smaller children down during playtime. Story
This sweetheart was found wondering on the side of a road and we aren't sure why! She is an amazing dog!! She gets along with all dogs and loves playing with puppies. She is housetrained with a doggy door and does well on a leash. She learns commands fairly quickly and is just wonderful!! She is our meet and greet dog who is just a happy baby. She does get attached to “her person” and will follow them everywhere but we feel it's because she was dumped. we aren't sure if she's been around cats but can learn those rules. She has the Boxer play, long legs and sounds like she's gonna kill something, but it's all bluster. She has another Boxer she loves to play with and they go rounds together. She likes kids and isn't too shy of strangers. She's just a great, great dog and we want her to find her perfect family. We use the most animal-friendly transport on the road. Story
Hello, my name is Max, and I am a 1 years young mixed breed. Maybe an American or French bulldog / Australian cattle dog mix? I weigh 44 lbs, and I am a stocky guy. I was an owner surrender because they had financial hardship and to move out of their house and into an apartment that didnt allow dogs. Despite all the upheaval in my life lately, I am friendly and trusting and sweet. I am a medium energy guy, and I am very quiet in the house. Because of my bulldog side, I need lots of exercise. If you have a fenced yard that I can run around, thats great. I also am really good on a leash, so if you like to take frequent walks with me, Id like that, too! I know what toys are, and I like to play tug of war with my foster dad. I am very social and friendly, and I will wag my tail for any human I encounter. My previous family had kids, and Ive had positive interactions with kids as young as 7 since coming to TAR. When I get really excited like when you come home from the grocery store I do sometimes jump up. So, it might be best if kids in my new home are at least 5, or similar weight as me or just comfortable with a dog who sometimes get really excited to see his humans. I really like to be with my humans at all times. If you leave me alone in a room, I will whine loudly. So, Id really prefer an active family where someone is with me most of the time like a stay at home parent, or a work from home person. Oh, and if youre going out, I really like car rides. Im really good in the car, so maybe just take me with you! I am house trained, and Ill go to the door if I need to go outside. My foster home has 3 other dogs, all similar size as me, and I do well with them. I ignore cats. If you have a fenced yard where we can play fetch in, Id love that! And if youre looking for a great walking buddy, I love to walk outside. One day a family is going to come meet me, says my foster family. And, when you do can expect that I will come right up to you, tail wagging and asking for pets. I may roll over for belly rubs or just climb up in your lap. And, if you left your car door open, Ill hop right in so you can take me home! I am such a sweet, social, adaptable dog that my foster mom says that any family will be lucky to have me and Ill make a great family pet. I promise that I will be by your side for the rest of my life. When you meet me, you will see that I just want to be loved and part of a family again. Will you give me my forever home? Love, Max Maxis located in our foster home in Downers Grove. Story
Hello, my name is Moonlight, and I am guessed to be around 3 years old. I'm a short gal, well short & stocky. I weigh 47#s. I'm guessed to be a Pocket Pittie mixed with a little Bulldog. I was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter. Shelter folks recognized I had babies, but I had no puppies with me. How I became a stray nobody knows. I waited for my owner to come look for me. Shelter folks were shocked that nobody came for me because I'm such a good girl. Every day for months I looked out my kennel thinking my owner is coming. Volunteers would come to walk me, and I would look around for my Humans. The nice people who took me for walks would tell me these 2 words: One day. One day. I didn't know what that meant. One day my family comes back for me? Then one day as I was being walked back into my kennel I ran into a TAR volunteer and her son. My "one day" got better because when I saw that young boy I got very excited. Maybe in my past my family had kids and I thought that boy is going to get me back to my family. He didn't because he said, "you are coming home with us." So, I got my Freedom Ride to my foster home, and I still hear the words "one day". When I cuddle with that young boy, he tells me "One day I am going to have a family again". Oh, I know that word family and I get very excited. I trust this young boy because he's the one who helped me get out of the shelter. He's the one who takes me for walks, cuddles with on the couch and gives me good treats. I show him the tricks I know and when I lay by his feet and snore, I make him laugh. I'm a quiet girl (except for my snoring) and love Humans, dogs and ignore the cats. I really am a people person. It's hard to tell by my pictures but my coloring is so pretty. I have a nice shiny, chocolate brown coat. Think of a deep, rich chocolate bar minus the calories. Speaking of calories, I'm kinda hefty but that makes me more enduring. I'm a real Lady and I don't make messes in the house. I know to do my business outside and at nighttime I can go into a crate, lay by your bed or if I can really wish sleep with you but heads up .... I snore. I can't wait for my family to come meet me one day. I hope I never have to be a stray again. I hope I can have a family that will take me for walks and car rides. I'm a special gal that will warm your heart. Everyone who meets me just loves me. Will you love me? Let's meet! Moonlight Moonlightis located in our foster home in Aurora. Story
Diamond is an extremely sweet and friendly 38 lb, female, 2 year-old blue nose pitbull. Found as a stray in Indiana, she is looking for a loving forever home with a new family. Named for a white, diamond-shaped fur patch on her neck, Diamond is a soft cuddle bug who loves to just hang out with her foster parents all day long. She is happy with a walk a day, a few bones to chew, and a little attention. Warning - Diamond will burrow herself under your blankets in order to be as close to you as possible! Diamond is housetrained and crate trained, and she comes to you quickly when called. She is easily excitable, so we would recommend that there are no small children or fragile adults in the home. However, she does appear to love children and has been happy to receive lots of pets from all children, so we believe that she would do well in a home with kids 7-8+ years old. As for other dogs, Diamond has been friendly with her foster parents’ dogs, and she does best with dogs who are more submissive or non-reactive. She very rarely barks on her own accord, but she will bark back and stand her ground if another dog barks at her. To set her up for success, Diamond would benefit from intentional set-ups to meet other pups. Diamond is being walked on a harness, and she is doing great at learning loose-leash walking. This girl is highly smart, treat-motivated and loves positive reinforcement training! She is eager to please her humans, and you will be greeted by the wiggliest butt every time she sees you. Her foster parents can easily see her being an amazing family pet! It won’t take long for you to fall in love with her. She is up to date on all of her vaccines, microchipped, spayed, and is heartworm negative. If you would like to meet this dog please call Teri at 630-897-7454. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive - deworming
