Story
Oscar Everyone who looks at Oscar remarks on his handsome face and soulful eyes. This 17-lb, 4-5 year old neutered male “Chiweenie” mix was picked up as a stray and spent a month in the shelter before coming to GLAR. In the shelter he was very frightened and during his first days in his foster home he was not sure who he could trust. After he overcame his wariness, his personality started to shine through. His foster discovered that while Oscar may not be happy about new people reaching out to pat his head, he loves to be petted on his chest and neck, and will very firmly guide with his paw to petted “just there!” He is an enthusiastic eater, and is very food motivated, which makes it easier for him to learn new routines. Oscar gets along with other dogs, although he does want to get priority attention, so he may be happiest in a home without another dog. He’s untested around cats or children. He seems to be most anxious around men he doesn’t know, but with a bit of patience he learns that a man can be very nice. Oscar sleeps soundly and deeply in his crate, enjoys walks on a leash, sprinting around the backyard, meal time, and lots of naps. He will potty outside, but prefers to use a pad inside the house on rainy days. As a recently neutered adult male, he still retains some of his marking instinct, so his foster keeps a belly band on him inside for now. We are seeking a small, quiet household for Oscar. In the shelter it was noted that his head movements were odd. After confirming his overall health, he was taken to UC Davis for a neurological consult. The veterinarians think it likely that Oscar has a congenital issue that cannot be treated with medication, yet it’s possible for him to live as a normal dog. He also has some impaired hearing at the lower ranges. His quirky habits are mainly noticeable when he is anxious or very excited, and he's overall a happy little dog with lots of love to give his people. TL/DR: Neutered male | Dachshund x Chihuahua | 17 lbs | 4-5 years old | Microchipped | vaccinated www.gunterslegacy.org/foster www.gunterslegacy.org/adopt ##2241957##

Story
Jeff was adopted by my daughter for my mother. My mom is 86. Jeff is not good with other dogs and my mom has a 6lb dog who Jeff growls and lunges at. I took Jeff hoping my med sized dog would be less likely to be bullied. I was wrong. Jeff has been in my care for 3wks. He is housebroken, follows simple commands and will sleep in a crate. He does love leash walks hw will chase a ball but won't give it back. Jeff will guard whatever he deems his at the time. If in a cair and one of the other dogs walks by he stands and growls. Same with the dog bed. He is not food aggressive at all. I do not want to take him back to the shelter as I do see better behaviors then in the beginning. Jeff needs someone who is home most the day as he does cry when I'm at work. He is not crated when I'm working just at night.

Story
The application is the first step in the adoption process, so if you are interested in adopting please fill out the online adoption application  first by visiting our website at www.dachshundpaws.org    Casey, born 3/16/2024 is a Soft Wirehair Mini Dachshund. Casey was bought from a breeder, but after a few month it was realized she had a bit too much energy for family. They reached out to us, knowing that Casey needed a better match for her.  Casey is a typical puppy, she is very active and playful. She loves other dogs, loves to run and play. She is shy at first, but not super fearful. Casey likes to go for walks. Casey is a typical Dachshund and we are working on crate training and housebreaking. We are not sure Casey’s routine before rescue, but housebreaking has been a a typical Dachshund challenge. She has recently started using a doggie door, so she’s doing better. Casey would love a home with another dog to play with, maybe a yard to help with housebreaking, parents not gone long hours and lots of love! Casey was groomed prior to coming to rescue, so she has been shaved.  Casey’s adoption fee: $800                We do not have a kennel or facility to visit, all dogs are kept in foster homes until their forever homes are found.Adoption Process: Once an approved application is on file, we will then set up a home visit. At that time we will bring the dog to the home in which you will all be sharing. We ask the entire family to be there that day. If we all agree on the placement, then the dog will stay with you that day.  Please visit our website at www.dachshundpaws.org    November 30, 2024, 6:49 pm

Story
For those who are up to a challenge, we are looking for an experienced foster/adopter who can help Hopper. Hopper is a special little guy who needs someone who can work with him and his issues. He has triggers that have lead to bites. He needs help working with someone who knows how to retrain his brain. Hopper is a quirky little guy who does love people, especially when they understand his quirks. Hopper is trustful of the person who cares for him and loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He needs a person to understand his boundaries and that he gives love on his terms. He loves to run at full speed into rooms to greet everyone there. He is very food motivated. He does not like to be picked up and has a dislike of harnesses. He's getting better with allowing harnesses but needs more work on being desensitized to them. He needs someone who understands and accepts that he does not like being picked up, which is not really necessary. He's learned to use stairs to get up on the couch to sit next to you. At night, he's good in a kennel or on a dog bed. Hopper is good with other dogs who are his size. He's not too welcoming of bigger dogs but tolerates them to a point. He can be food protective so no trying to take away his bowl once he's eating (who would do that anyway?). Hopper is neutered, vaccinated and house trained (might mark in the beginning like most male dogs do). Please contact us if you can help Hopper. Our email is heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com or call us at 951-708-0626.
