Story
Askem is a sensitive and soulful little guy who’s had his world turned upside down recently. At around 25 pounds, he’s on the smaller side — possibly a mix of Heeler and Chihuahua — and combines the sharp intelligence and need for purpose of a working dog with the emotional sensitivity and wariness that can come with tiny-dog genetics. The result? A dog who feels deeply, bonds strongly, and needs a bit of extra support navigating change. Askem was originally adopted from us as a puppy and spent the majority of his life with his first owner, who adored him. They gave him a loving, stable home for nearly two years and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him — affectionate, loyal, and a true companion. Unfortunately, a sudden change in their living situation meant they could no longer care for him. They tried to rehome Askem to a relative, but the match just wasn’t right, and after a short time in that second home, Askem found himself back with us — confused, overwhelmed, and unsure of what was happening. Understandably, he hasn’t adjusted well to the change. He’s a naturally nervous dog, and losing the only home he ever knew has shaken his sense of security. In the short-term home he passed through, Askem was reported to struggle with house training and was defensive with guests. These behaviors aren’t uncommon for dogs dealing with stress and uncertainty — especially those like Askem who are already prone to anxiety. It seems likely that he tried to cope the only way he knew how: by overcompensating with controlling behavior (classic Heeler) and reacting quickly when he felt vulnerable (classic Chihuahua). What Askem needs now is someone who can see past those stress responses and understand what they really mean — a dog who is insecure, not difficult. He would thrive with a confident, patient person who can offer him structure, predictability, and firm-but-kind boundaries. He’s the kind of dog who finds comfort in routine, and who will slowly let his guard down when he knows what to expect and who to trust. Beneath the nerves, Askem is incredibly affectionate. Sit down with him and speak softly, and you’ll see the longing in his eyes — he wants to be close, to crawl into your lap, to melt under your touch. He loves scritches and rubdowns and clearly desires connection. We're giving him the time and space he needs right now to rebuild his confidence, and he's already starting to show those sweet, loyal glimpses of the dog he once was. Askem isn’t a dog for everyone — he needs a calm home, likely without young children, and with someone who’s familiar with shy or reactive dogs. But for the right person, he’ll be a deeply rewarding companion. If you believe that trust is something worth earning, and you're ready to help a dog rediscover what it means to feel safe, Askem just might be waiting for you.

Story
Meet Remmy! She's a spunky, energetic, and playful Jack Russell Terrier mix, estimated to be around 3-4 years old. She was picked up by animal control in December 2023, so her past is a bit of a mystery—but one thing is certain: she’s full of personality and ready to find her perfect home! True to her terrier nature, Remmy has a strong drive and an endless love for toys. She could play all day if given the chance, whether it’s chasing a ball, tugging on a rope, or squeaking her favorite stuffed animal. She thrives in an active home where she can get plenty of playtime, exercise, and mental stimulation. With her big personality and boundless enthusiasm, Remmy can sometimes be a bit much for other dogs. She should be considered dog-selective, as not all dogs appreciate her energetic playstyle. Because of this, she may do best as the only dog in the home or with a calm, tolerant canine sibling. Remmy is also best suited for a home without young children, as her excitement and high energy might be overwhelming for little ones. Despite her lively nature, Remmy is also incredibly sweet and affectionate. She loves spending time with her people and enjoys belly rubs and snuggles when she finally slows down. She will thrive with an adopter who understands her terrier personality and can provide the structure, enrichment, and activity she needs. If you’re looking for a fun-loving, toy-obsessed, affectionate companion, Remmy might just be the perfect fit! Apply to meet her today and see if she’s the missing piece to your family. ??

Story
Meet Ranger! 🐾 This handsome goofball is an 8–12 month old German Shepherd mix who’s ready to trade in shelter life for a forever home of his own. Ranger was picked up by animal control and, sadly, never reclaimed—but he hasn’t let that slow him down one bit. Ranger is a whole lot of happy packed into one eager, wiggly pup. He has energy for days and a zest for life that’s downright contagious. Whether it’s meeting new people, bouncing around with other dogs, or exploring the great outdoors, Ranger is all in—tail wagging, ears perked, eyes bright. He loves everyone he meets and is genuinely just thrilled to be part of the action. He does know a few basic commands already and seems to want to learn more—he just doesn’t quite know how to channel all that enthusiasm yet. Ranger is the kind of dog who will thrive with structure, positive reinforcement, and a patient adopter who’s ready to start from the ground up. He’s confident, eager to please, and incredibly smart—traits that will make training more of an exciting journey than a challenge. Ranger would do best with an active family who can match his energy and give him the outlet he needs to stay happy and balanced. Whether it’s hikes, agility, or a big backyard to romp in, he’s the type who wants to be included and involved. With a little time and guidance, this boy is going to be something really special. If you're ready to invest in an energetic, loyal, and lovable sidekick—Ranger is more than ready to be yours.

Story
Meet Patch – Your New Best Friend! 🐾 Patch is a 1–2 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog mix who’s as handsome as he is sweet. His journey started when he found his way to a kind stranger’s home. They cared for him for a month, hoping his owner would come forward—but when no one did, Patch came to us to find a new beginning. At first, he was a bit reserved, unsure of his new surroundings. But now that he’s settled in, Patch has truly come out of his shell—and he’s wonderful. He’s incredibly affectionate, loves attention, and has the most irresistible puppy dog eyes. He enjoys playing, but more than anything, he just wants to snuggle up and be close to his people. While he lived outdoors at his finder’s home, Patch tries hard to keep his kennel clean here, so he may do well with house training. He’s done okay with cats, and he’s generally good with other dogs—as long as they respect his space. Patch is on the lower-energy side and seems happiest just hanging out and being your loyal companion. If you're looking for a mellow, cuddly, and loving dog to share your days with, Patch might be the perfect fit. 🖤

Story
Toby and Tanner’s story is one that tugs at the heartstrings. These two sweet seniors came to us after their beloved owner became disabled and could no longer care for them. It’s clear they were cherished — and it shows in how gentle, trusting, and affectionate they are. Toby is a long/wire-haired Dachshund mix, and Tanner is a Chihuahua mix. Both are over 10 years old, house trained, crate trained, and have lived with cats. They may be older, but they’re full of life — happy, bubbly little guys who greet every day with tail wags and bright eyes. They seem to have a soft spot for women, but honestly, a few treats will make you their new best friend in no time. The truth is, Toby and Tanner are deeply bonded. They’ve been side by side for years — through the good times and the hard ones — and they find comfort and confidence in each other’s presence. Watching them together, it’s easy to see that they belong as a pair. While we can’t require that they be adopted together, it would mean the world to them (and to us) to see them live out their golden years in the same loving home. If you have room in your heart — and on your couch — for two gentle souls who will return your love tenfold, please come meet Toby and Tanner. They’ve already lost so much… but together, they’re ready to love again. ❤️
