Story
FELICE - Lab-Mix / 10 years / 20kg / F-Spayed Beautiful Felice turns 10 in January and we hope to start her year off on the right foot! After being with the same family for the past 6 years, she finds herself ready for a new beginning! She has gone to bootcamp, and girl has been rocking it since day 1! She knows a lot of "rules" already and benefits from consistency. If you say place, she may give you a look that says "do you mean it" and if you simply give her a "yup" she will trot off to settle. She has been a bit confused by her role of "dog", but is catching on quickly to understand her place in the family. Her play style with other dogs is a smidge wonky, as if she hasn't learned to play. Her new canine buddy Michael is working with her on chase, sharing and having fun together. (She loves it!) She is great with dogs, but has the confidence to be a solo dog in the home. She is good with kids too and had some wee humans in her past home. If you think you could be Felice’s forever, check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. Her adoption fee is $500. If you are a family with kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply (https://dibsrescue.com/kids-dogs/).

Story
AGE: 3.5 Years SEX: Female BREED: Potcake ENERGY LEVEL: Medium DOG FRIENDLY: Maybe CAT FRIENDLY?: No KID FRIENDLY?: Yes FOSTER IG: @foster_by_the_shore Meet Justine! This gentle, well-mannered girl has a heart of gold and the sweetest, calmest energy. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her affectionate, easygoing nature. She loves to play and learns quickly - especially when treats or fun games are involved. Once she’s comfortable, Justine is incredibly cuddly and takes her couch naps very seriously. She enjoys enrichment activities like snuffle mats and puzzles and has a playful side that includes jumping for treats, all while being deeply devoted to her people. Justine is house trained and perfectly crate trained - she sleeps soundly in her crate at night, happily goes in to nap during the day, and can be left home alone without issue. She walks well on leash and is currently polishing her heel. She does wonderfully meeting new people and with guests in the home, often starting off a little shy but quickly warming up and offering kisses once she feels safe. She currently lives in a quieter neighbourhood but could also do well in a busier area with some patience and support as she adjusts. In new situations, Justine can be a bit sensitive at first, especially around loud sounds, but she settles beautifully with reassurance. She can be selective with other dogs and may show some reactivity, usually expressing herself by whining or tensing up, so slow introductions are important. She tends to do best with male dogs and would likely thrive as the only dog in the home. On walks, she does have a prey drive toward small animals and would do best in a cat-free home. With her sweet temperament, calm presence, and loving heart, Justine will truly shine with a patient, caring family. If you’re looking for a chill, affectionate companion who bonds deeply and brings warmth to your home, Justine may be the perfect match! AGE: 2 Years SEX: Female BREED: Husky Mix ENERGY LEVEL: High DOG FRIENDLY?: Maybe, dog selective and slow intros needed CAT FRIENDLY?: Maybe! KID FRIENDLY?: Older, dog-savvy kids only! Meet Autumn! Autumn is a playful, fun-loving girl who enjoys long walks and is always eager for new adventures. She loves soaking up belly rubs and is a huge fan of her toys - she’ll happily grab the nearest one to chew on and would be delighted if you tossed it for her to chase! She’s an active, joyful companion who brings enthusiasm and curiosity to her daily life. Autumn is a people-loving pup who does wonderfully meeting new humans. She welcomes guests into the home with ease, giving them space and respect while still offering warm, happy greetings. She’s very food motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding, and puzzle toys are a big hit for keeping her mind busy. She is both house and crate trained and settles within minutes when left alone. Autumn currently lives in the city and does well in that environment, though she would also be happy in a quieter home with some extra space to run. She loves being near her people and, while not overly snuggly, enjoys affection on her own terms. When it comes to other dogs, Autumn is more selective and benefits from slow, calm introductions. She can be reactive toward dogs on leash and will need continued training and support in this area. While she and her fosters have worked on leash pulling and made good progress, building her confidence around other dogs will be an important next step. With patience, guidance, and consistency, Autumn has great potential to continue improving. If you’re looking for a sweet, energetic companion who’s ready to grow with the right support, Autumn might be the perfect match! Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for Autumn? AGE: 4 WeeksSEX: 2 Females & 6 MalesBREED: Northern MixENERGY LEVEL: Likely Medium to HighDOG FRIENDLY?: Yep!CAT FRIENDLY?: Yep!KID FRIENDLY?: Yep!Meet Libby’s puppies! They are typical young puppies. They are currently living with their littermates and their mom, Libby. At this age, they spend most of their days napping and eating but in a few short weeks, they will become playful little beans. As with all young pups, they will need to work on crate training as well as potty training once they are a bit older. They also will need support with leash walking once they are old enough! Libby is approximately 45-50 lbs and we expect these pups to be medium-large once fully grown.Their ideal home would be with a committed family that will provide continuous, consistent training to ensure these puppies thrive. They will need an active family that can give them 1-2 hours of exercise and walks per day. They would be happy to share their home with another pup and although they haven’t had any exposure to cats or children, they are at a young enough age that they would most likely adapt well to an environment with dog-savvy kids or kitties!*Although we are accepting applications now, please note the puppies will need to stay in foster care until they are 8-9 weeks old. We are not currently matching specific puppies but you may specify your preferred puppy on your application. Puppies will be spayed/neutered and get their first vaccination at 8 weeks.Think you might be the right fit to provide a loving home for one of Libby’s Puppies? Story
Chapita / Female / Approx. 6 Years / 35lbs / Mixed Breed / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids / Good with Cats / From Mexico / Fostered in Burlington Chapita’s story begins on the street, where she was found shut down, sick, and terrified of humans. With time, patience, and gentle care, she’s slowly learned that people can be kind, and now she’s ready for a calm, loving home where she can truly settle in and feel safe. Chapita is a shy, quiet girl who finds comfort in the simple things. She loves cozy corners, soft beds, and peaceful surroundings. She’s not a fan of chaos and prefers a calm, predictable environment. Her energy level is best described as “garden snail,” with short bursts of play followed by expert-level naps. She can be a little nervous at first, especially with new people or loud noises, but once she trusts you, her personality really shines. She becomes incredibly loyal and affectionate, she’ll gently ask for attention and won’t want to leave your side. She’s a serious cuddler and happiest just being close to her person. Chapita walks nicely on leash for short distances and enjoys very low-key activity. She’s currently working on her house training and doing well with routine. She settles beautifully in her space and does great when left alone, happily relaxing until you return (and greeting you with excited tail wags). With other dogs, Chapita is still building confidence and would do best with slow, thoughtful introductions. She has shown gentle, curious behaviour and may do well with a calm, respectful dog over time. With cats, she has been around them and is still adjusting, she may bark or get a little unsure, but it appears to be part of her settling-in process and could improve with time and guidance. Chapita has not been formally tested with children, but based on her gentle, sensitive nature, she would likely do best with older, calm, dog-savvy kids who can respect her space and allow her to warm up at her own pace. Chapita’s ideal home is quiet and low-key, think movie nights, cozy evenings, and a slower pace of life. A suburban setting is strongly preferred, as city noise can be overwhelming for her. She has made it very clear she is not interested in hiking, biking, or weightlifting, and honestly seemed a little offended those were even suggested. Chapita is ready for her soft landing. A patient, loving home that understands that the quiet ones often love the deepest once they feel safe. If you’re interested in adopting Chapita, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Chapita’s adoption fee is $850. Story
** KIKO'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED ** Kiko / Male / 8 years old / 68 lbs / Mixed Breed / No Other Dogs Please / Older kids only / No Cats Please/ From Mexico / Fostered in Oshawa ** Follow Kiko’s journey on Instagram @Fostertails_crae_and_friends ** Meet Kiko! Kiko is one resilient guy. Originally from Mexico, he lived alone on a rooftop for most of his life. He stole the hearts of everyone at the shelter and they quickly realized he was a very special boy who deserved a shot at the good life in Canada. Despite everything he has been through, this handsome boy is described by his fosters as sweet, loving, affectionate, eager to please, easygoing, and low maintenance. He has a gentle heart and will thrive once he gets a sense of permanence and belonging in his family. Kiko’s favourite activities are cuddling, getting pets, scratches, and belly rubs from his people. He will use his beautiful brown eyes and lay his head on your lap to let you know he wants pets. He loves being close to his humans and gently pressing his body against them when he wants cuddles. He will give vigorous tail wags when his people return or enter the room. He will also give lots of little kisses to express his affection. Kiko enjoys being outdoors and gets 2 good walks plus a few shorter outdoor breaks during the day. Kiko walks very well on a leash and enjoys trotting alongside his human. He will match his pace to whoever is walking him, he doesn’t pull and is easily corrected. He is curious and loves to sniff and prefers a quieter neighbourhood where there are not too many loud vehicles or encounters with strangers or other dogs. Kiko does not enjoy meeting other dogs on leash and will require a handler who can advocate for his space and ensure he is not put in an uncomfortable position. In the house, Kiko is a dream. This handsome boy has perfect manners to match his good looks and charms. He loves his humans and wants to be close to them whenever they are around but also does well on his own. He will adapt to a new routine easily and is very go-with-the-flow. He is not at all destructive and is trusted with free roam in the house. If there is any activity or stimulation around, he is very playful. Kiko has several favourite toys and will play with them to entertain himself when left alone. He enjoys chewing on his Kongs, balls, and stuffed toys but is not destructive. Kiko has been left for more than 6 hours on his own and has been perfectly fine. He calms down quickly and is not crated. He mostly chills out in the area where his dog bed and toys are located or will curl up on the couch and snooze. Kiko doesn’t enjoy being crated, but given his good manners it is not necessary. Kiko settles quickly at night on a dog bed in his fosters’ room and sleeps through the night without issue. Kiko needs slow and proper introductions to new people. He is not a dog that will run up to anyone. He needs to be approached slowly and respectfully and feels comfortable when he can move at his own pace. Kiko warms up quickly and after that with people he trusts. Kiko gets along well with older, dog-savvy children but he does enjoy playing rough, so it is not recommended that he plays with younger children unsupervised. Kiko has basic obedience skills, is very attuned to his people and is eager to please. He pays close attention to body language, voice tone, and eye contact and never wants to do anything that might displease or inconvenience his people. He is sensitive, observant and considerate. While in foster care, Kiko had a growth removed from his leg that was diagnosed as cutaneous hemangiosarcoma, a malignant type of skin cancer. There is a chance that it may return so he’ll need to be monitored regularly. Because these growths can sometimes develop in areas of lighter skin, Kiko should avoid prolonged sun exposure on spots like his belly and inner legs. It’s important to note that Kiko is not palliative—this is not a situation where his time is expected to be short. Many dogs with this diagnosis can continue to live for years with a good quality of life. Kiko is also prone to getting tiny stones in his bladder so needs to stay on a specific brand of food. Kiko is the perfect companion for a single person or adult couple, where he would be the only pet in the home. He would do best in a quiet neighbourhood and would strongly prefer a yard where he could hang out without meeting too many other dogs. Kiko is muzzle trained and needs a family that will advocate for his space when meeting new or unfamiliar people and dogs, and who will help his confidence going up and down stairs. He will also need a family who is committed to working on his leash etiquette, obedience training and overall confidence. Kiko just needs a lot of affection, love, and support from his humans to feel safe. Once he trusts you, he will do anything for you. If you’re interested in adopting Kiko, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Kiko's adoption fee has been generously sponsored.
