Story
** DEXTER'S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED ** Dexter / Male / Approx 3 years / 50 lbs / Australian Cattle Dog Mix / Good with Dogs / Good with Children / Good with Cats / Medium-Low Energy / From Tennessee / Fostered in Brampton ** Follow Dexter's journey on Instagram: @lilcuddlebugfosters** Meet Dexter! This handsome boy is full of joy and never-ending affection. He is sweet, calm, friendly, sometimes goofy and very loving to his people. Giving people hugs and kisses is one of his favourite things and he'll happily greet you when you get home. He's excited to do whatever you feel like - from going for a walk to lounging on the couch. Dexter is very affectionate, he likes to stick close to his trusted humans. When meeting new people, he may take time to warm up, and appreciates slow introductions and time to observe and sniff. Dexter has lived with children ages 7 -17 and treated them the same as the adults. To Dexter, his humans are the best and he loves to play and cuddle with them all. Dexter walks well on leash and does not pull. He currently gets two walks a day of 30-45 minutes. He also loves play time in the backyard with his canine foster sister. He gets along well with other dogs who match his laid back energy and is good at reading cues. Dexter would be a great second dog in a home, but could also do well as the only dog. Dexter has not been tested with cats. On rare occasions, he can be a little uneasy and may bark or react when passing strange men or fast moving people running or on bikes. Dexter is great when left home alone and settles immediately. He is not crated and usually just curls up on a dog bed or the couch and chills out until his people come home. He may counter surf so it’s important to make sure all food is put away when leaving him. Dexter has been left for up to six hours without issue and is fully potty trained. While in foster care, Dexter received a diagnosis of megaesophagus which comes with some long-term care. Megaesophagus means that Dexter’s body doesn’t push food into his stomach the way it should. He is stable on medication and a regime of 3 meals per day fed while he is in an elevated position in a Bailey Chair. Dexter has become fairly accustomed to using his chair and will sit in it for up to 30 minutes after he eats. Small amounts of regurgitation is common for dogs with this condition and their health should be monitored. He also uses a travel pillow when lying down which minimizes the regurgitation. If you are interested in Dexter but have questions about his condition, please reach out and we would be happy to connect you with his vetting team to discuss further. Dexter’s ideal home would be with a loving family who is ready for endless kisses and has a willingness to commit to his healthcare. He is young and enjoys a daily walk with a few chances for potty breaks throughout the day. Dexter would do best in a home with a yard in a quiet area. Dexter is a real gem and wants nothing more than a committed family with whom he can enjoy his life. If you are looking for a fun-loving companion, Dexter is your guy. He has so much love to give and will brighten up your home. Story
Mavi / Male / 1 Year / 46 lbs / Shepherd Mix / Good with Dogs / Older Kids Only / Not Good with Cats / Local Shelter / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Mavi’s journey on Instagram: @adoptmavi Mavi is a handsome, sensitive boy who is learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. While his past is unknown, he has been thriving in foster care with structure, training, and patient guidance, and every day his personality shines a little brighter. Mavi is incredibly smart, eager to learn, and deeply affectionate once he trusts you. His foster says he picks up new tricks almost immediately and loves training sessions, puzzles, sniffing adventures, lick mats, long-lasting chews, and outdoor time. After warming up, he becomes a total cuddle bug who loves being close to his people. With familiar people, Mavi is easygoing, affectionate, and loving. Around strangers, he can initially be nervous and takes a little time to settle in, especially in busy environments. He does best with calm, patient introductions and people who allow him to move at his own pace. Mavi would not be the right fit for a home with young children, but he may do well with respectful older teens. Mavi’s ideal home would be in the suburbs or a quieter area with access to parks, trails, or a backyard where he can decompress and enjoy outdoor time. He would thrive with a family excited about continuing his training and confidence-building journey. A calm, confident resident dog would likely help him continue to flourish. He is wonderfully social with other dogs and has done very well with his foster sibling, often looking to her for reassurance and guidance. Mavi is not recommended for a home with cats, as he becomes overly excited around them. Mavi has a moderate energy level and enjoys several daily walks focused on sniffing, enrichment, and training. He is still working on leash skills and confidence around cars and runners, but he is making excellent progress with consistency and guidance. He is fully potty trained, sleeps through the night with his humans, and has lovely house manners overall. Mavi does experience some separation anxiety and would likely be happiest in a home where someone is around more often than not while he continues building confidence and independence. Exercise, routine, and mental stimulation have helped him tremendously, and he continues to improve every day. Mavi is currently taking Gabapentin (300mg twice daily) and Melatonin (5mg twice daily) to help him feel more relaxed and comfortable in a home environment. He is truly a good boy with so much potential. For the right family willing to continue helping him grow, he is going to be an incredibly rewarding, loyal, and loving companion. If you’re interested in adopting Mavi, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Mavi’s adoption fee is $850. Story
Cosmo / Male / 3 Years / 74lbs / Australian Shepherd/Labrador / Dog Selective / Good with Older Children/ Untested with Cats / Fostered in Milton ** Follow Cosmo's journey on Instagram: @theadorableadoptablecosmo* Cosmo is a striking, intelligent Shepherd-mix with a deeply sensitive and thoughtful nature. In a calm, predictable environment, he is affectionate, playful, and forms strong bonds with the people he trusts. When he feels safe, Cosmo enjoys relaxing near his humans, spending time on the couch or nearby on the floor, and engaging with enrichment that allows him to decompress and settle. Cosmo thrives with routine, clarity, and low-pressure interactions. He responds best when given space and choice, and he shows excellent potential when his nervous system is supported. He loves food-based enrichment, stuffed toys, sniffing activities, and long-lasting chews, all of which help him regulate and feel secure. Inside the home, he is calm, house-trained, and not destructive when his needs are met. Cosmo can become overwhelmed in busy or unpredictable environments. He is sensitive to excessive noise, movements, unfamiliar visitors, and close proximity to other dogs, and he benefits from thoughtful management that reduces trigger stacking. He does best with calm, respectful dogs when given adequate space and has shown the ability to self-regulate during structured, low-pressure social experiences. Cosmo is not suited to a home with young children, as fast movement and unpredictability increase his anxiety. Cosmo has worked with professional behavioural support and responds best to force-free handling, long-line walks in quiet natural settings, and environments that prioritize emotional safety over exposure. With consistency and continued support, he demonstrates curiosity, connection, and the ability to build confidence at a steady pace. Cosmo is looking for an experienced, patient home that understands sensitive dogs and values calm, predictable routines. His ideal home would be a quiet household — ideally rural or semi-rural — with access to safe outdoor space where he can decompress without frequent triggers. He would do best with minimal visitors and guardians who are committed to continuing his confidence-building, low-pressure lifestyle. Cosmo may thrive as an only dog or with a calm, well-matched canine companion following careful introductions. In the right environment, Cosmo is a deeply loyal and gentle companion — a dog who finds joy in quiet moments, meaningful connection, and the comfort of being truly understood. If you’re interested in adopting Cosmo, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Cosmo’s adoption fee is $850. Story
* KIKA’S ADOPTION FEE IS SPONSORED * Kika / Female / ~3 years old / 60 lbs / Terrier Mix / No dogs, cats, or children / Female-only home / From Mexico / Fostered in Toronto Follow Kika’s journey: @kikaneedsamom Meet Kika — aka Kikachu — your future best friend with the biggest personality and an even bigger heart. Kika is the perfect mix of playful goofball and cozy companion. She’s a certified cozy connoisseur who loves fresh, warm blankets, will carefully select a toy to use as her pillow, and can often be found stretched out dramatically across the floor. She’s also an Olympic-level toy shredder and a dedicated cardboard recycler — but somehow still manages to keep a solid rotation of favourite toys intact. She has full-on conversations with her squeaky toys, knows them all by name, and loves a good game of “rescue the toy from under the ottoman.” She’ll also gently (and persistently!) remind you when belly rubs should absolutely not stop. Kika is currently working with a dog walker weekly, and it’s been a slow, thoughtful build that has been really positive for her. She’s showing that with patience, consistency, and trust, she can successfully build relationships with new people. Kika came to us after she wandered into the home of a shelter volunteer, badly injured and clearly the subject of mistreatment. Despite everything she went through, she somehow knew to find a safe place to ask for help. Today, she is thriving in foster care with steady guidance and has graciously shown us her true, joyful personality. She’s smart, expressive, and full of quirky charm — the kind of dog who keeps you laughing every day. But beyond the silliness, Kika forms deep, loyal bonds with her people. Once you’re in her circle, you’re her person — and she will trust you fully, follow your lead, and look to you for everything. Kika has a working-breed personality — alert, intelligent, and always ready for what’s next. She thrives with structure, routine, and a confident female handler. She enjoys her walks, exploring, loves a good game of ball, and even climbs snow piles like a little mountain goat. She walks well overall, though she can pull at times, and her foster is currently working on introducing a Halti to support her on walks — it’s been introduced and they are continuing to build her comfort with it. Kika is also crate trained and muzzle trained, and already has trusted relationships with both a vet and dog sitter, which will help support a smooth transition into her future home. Kika is looking for a female-only, adult-only home with someone who understands or is open to learning about dogs who need a bit of time to build trust. Understandably, Kika does not immediately trust strangers. She will need an adjustment period where she may show some guarding behaviours, including around food, and will benefit from clear structure, space, and thoughtful handling. These behaviours are not directed at her people, but rather at unfamiliar individuals. Men, in particular, are scary for Kika. While she can pass them outdoors without issue, she is not comfortable sharing her indoor space and will use barking or growling to communicate that discomfort. She does well when crated in another room during male visitors and settles with proper management. Kika is not leash reactive — she does not initiate conflict with other dogs and has remained calm even around reactive dogs. She can enjoy friendly interactions on walks and has made a few dog friends along the way. Kika learned to trust her female foster — which is why we are looking for a similar environment to set her up for success. She is best suited as the only pet in the home, though she can enjoy friendly interactions with dogs out on walks. Kika is a truly special dog who has overcome a difficult past and is now ready for her person — someone patient, understanding, and ready to build a deep, meaningful bond. With the right match, Kika is an incredibly rewarding, loyal, funny, and loving companion who will give you her whole heart. Her foster is happy to support approved adopters to ensure a smooth transition and set everyone up for success. Kika has mild/moderate enamel hypoplasia which is thinning of the enamel on her teeth. Homecare will help with brushing but she may require professional dental cleaning in the future. Kika should avoid hard chews, toys, and treats as her teeth will be more prone to breaking during play. Kika also does best on a lamb protein diet. Kika will also require routine anal gland expression approximately every 2 months. If you are interested in Kika and would like to chat more about whether she would be a good fit for you, please reach out to adopt@fetchandreleash.ca. If you are interested in adopting Kika, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Kika's adoption fee has been generously sponsored. Story
Fredy / Male / 7 Years Old / 25 lbs / Mixed / Good with Dogs / Untested with Kids & Cats /From Mexico / Fostered in Oakville Follow Fredy's journey on Instagram @fosterbykails Meet Fredy, a gentle soul with a heart full of love and a calm, easygoing nature. Surrendered in February 2026 due to unfortunate circumstances, Fredy has handled the transition with quiet resilience and is now looking for a soft place to land. Fredy is the definition of a companion dog. He loves his people deeply, leaning in for cuddles, nuzzling for affection, and gets so excited to go on walks that he'll literally jump for joy. He’s polite on leash and enjoys short strolls (about 5–15 minutes), along with a bit of playtime—especially if there’s a ball or chew toy involved. At home, he’s calm and trustworthy, happily free-roaming without causing trouble. He’s friendly and relaxed when meeting new adults, though he may initially bark when guests enter the home. With a little time and familiarity, he warms up nicely. On walks, he’s easygoing overall but can be vocal around larger dogs and more interested in smaller ones. Fredy does well with dogs he knows but can be selective with new canine friends, so slow, supervised introductions are important. Fredy has not been directly tested with children, but he has shown calm curiosity from a distance and may be best suited to a home with older, respectful kids or an adult-only environment. Fredy may be a “hidden senior”—while records list him as 7, his condition suggests he could be a bit older. He has a lower energy level and is best suited to a low-impact lifestyle with shorter walks and cozy rest spots. Fredy has a slight outward turn in his left front paw (called a valgus deformity), which gives his leg a unique look. This is typically caused by how the bone developed as he grew, and in Fredy’s case, it doesn’t cause him any discomfort or require any treatment — it’s simply part of what makes him, him! He also has a small, soft fatty lump on his lower chest (lipoma), along with a few small benign skin growths on his head, nose, and left wrist. These are non-cancerous and very common, especially as dogs get older, and they don’t impact his day-to-day life. He also has some arthritis in his back legs, which further supports keeping his exercise low-impact and manageable. Fredy is still working on consistent house training and may have occasional marking, especially overnight or when left alone, where a belly band has been helpful. Crate training isn’t recommended for him at this stage, as it can increase stress. He can be left alone for several hours and settles well. Fredy would thrive in a home with few stairs, san apartment or condo, or in a place with a fenced yard that gives him room for his occasional bout of zoomies. A quiet environment where he can stay close to his people will help him truly settle and feel secure. If you're ready for a fine furry companion, then Fredy is ready to fill your home with love in his golden years. If you’re interested in adopting Fredy, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Fredy’s adoption fee is $550. Story
Jack / Male / 1 year old / 42 lbs / Hound-Lab Mix / Good with dogs / Untested with cats / Untested with children / From Mexico / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Jack’s journey on Instagram @fosterthedogss Meet Jack! Jack came to us from Mexico after he and his mom were found behind a gas station. Despite his difficult start, Jack has grown into a kind, gentle dog who is gradually gaining confidence and learning how good home life is. Jack is a calm, affectionate but shy young dog who is still learning that the world can be a safe and friendly place. His foster family describes him as a very cuddly, love bug. He bonds with his trusted humans and is most comfortable staying by their side. Jack has been working each day to build his confidence so his adorable personality can shine through. Jack is quite nervous around new people, places and things. He will look to his trusted human for comfort and direction and has made small gains during his time in foster care. Jack is curious and is showing signs of wanting to get to know people and dogs, but only once they have passed or are at a distance. On leash, Jack walks nicely and has a low energy level. He enjoys quiet exploration and relaxed time with his people. Jack prefers a calm, quieter walking route as he builds his confidence and trust to the outside world. He has shown no signs of being reactive, but can get very scared and try to hide. In the house Jack is a dream. He is crate trained and house trained and very chill. Napping, cuddles and a few chew toys and he is good to go. Jack’s foster family says he has great manners, and loves treats and learning new things. Although he does not love to be left alone, and wants to be where his person is, he will settle in his crate when needed. Jack would thrive with a family in a quiet neighborhood where he can explore the world at his own pace. He will need structure, patience, and lots of love. A yard to run in would be ideal as he continues learning that life can be full of good things.
