We adopted Gus at this facility, Burlington Animal Services. To our knowledge, he is about 3 years old. He is the sweetest dog to our family, who he lives with, but is aggressive towards other people. He has bitten others. He is VERY smart and can be very loving to us. HE LOVES to play with the ball and his chew bones. Don't bother getting tennis balls for him though, only rubber, as he will tear those apart in minutes lol.

Dear little Erika is another girl who is very unsure about shelter life. She came in as a stray and has not had an easy time settling in. The shelter is a VERY chaotic place for a shy girl like Erika, but we are doing our best to make her feel comfortable. She was very good for her intake exam but you could tell she was very nervous about all the handling. She cowers when you go into her kennel to put a leash on her and you can just tell she is expecting the worst. It is heartbreaking. Like one of the other shelter dogs, Candi, the key to bringing Erika out of her shell is other dogs. She had an absolute blast playing in the shelter lobby with Florence and even our rough and tumble boy Dijon. She even had the courage to jump up on one of our volunteers lap and ask for love. That was a first and showed us just how much another dog can help these shy ones. In the coming days we will get Erika into a play yard with another dog and let her go loose. We think she will have a blast. Erika has not been formally tested with cats but so far they don't seem to bother her. Of course, this could change once she has more courage, so will continue to explore this side of her personality. Erika is going to need someone willing and able to take the time she will need to trust. It's possible Erika has not been treated kindly before she came to us, or she may have just always been a shy girl. Either way, watching her play with the other dogs gave us a glimpse at her potential and given a little patience, we think she is going to blossom into an exceptional girl. I weigh 40lbs My energy level is moderate. I would like to live in a home with someone who is patient and understanding of shy dogs. No young children because I don't know how I feel bout them yet. I will need to be kept on leash until I understnd that I am safe. Want to meet Erika ?
