Story
Bash8 years old10 pounds
Short version: Experienced owner, needs boundaries, sweet 99% of the time, housetrained, crate trained, leash trained, no kids under 16, great in the car
We’ve got some great news to share! Bash is graduating from doggie college late next week – and he’s done fabulous at board and train. He learned boundaries, he learned commands (he can sit, come when called and does great on a leash) and has learned to approach his human when he wants love.
But now that he’s got his fancy degree and diploma to prove it, we need a place for this smart little dude to go to practice his new found knowledge – preferably a forever home. But right now we don’t have a foster home open that’s a fit for Bash’s needs so if we can’t find a forever home right now (he graduates late next week) then we will need a foster or foster to adopt home.
Let’s start with the good stuff. And there is a lot of great things to say about Bash:
He’s adorable and has the cutest strut
He does a happy dance when he sees you
He’s totally housetrained
He does great in his crate and happily sleeps there at night
He walks great on the leash
He’s the sweetest boy in the world 98% of the time
He loves to sit next to you and be your right hand man – on his terms.
He rides great in the car and is a fabulous co-pilot.
He follows you around the house and makes you feel like the most important person in the world
He’s independent – so no need to constantly enterain him – he’s fine just hanging out (often in his crate) and doing his own thing.
And yes, there is some not so great stuff as well about this confident and happy go-lucky little boy. When the universe was dishing out Chiweenie attitudes to all the chiweenies in the world, Bash kept getting back in line for me. We think he probably got three or four extra helpings of ‘tude.
But thankfully, it’s situational attitude and our fabulous trainer has helped us figure out that it revolves around Bash being protective of his personal space – to both people and dogs. The good news is that he doesn’t seek out drama and will give you a warning when he’s not happy with something. So he needs a family who will set and keep good boundaries, such as only allow him on the couch or their lap by invitation. And understands that he’s not a huge fan of constant petting.
In full disclosure – he has bitten in the past – most involving eye drops or fast movements on the side of his eye surergy – so absolutely no kids under 16 years of age. His trainer has learned his tells and can share it with is new family – foster or forever. But they should expect that there will likely be an issue or three, especially in the first few days as he learns to trust and that you are in charge.
So we are looking for an experienced and patient person to either adopt him, foster him or foster to adopt. His current trainer will be there to support you every step of the way. And if you need an in-home trainer, we will pay for a few sessions to help you learn the ins and outs of Bash.
Here’s what we think would work best for Bash:
1. No kids under 16 years old (we can’t bend on this based on his bites)
2. Either an only dog or with super laid-back dogs that would be good leaders
3. A fenced in yard to make potty breaks easier on everyone
4. Someone willing to set (and keep boundaries)
5. A home in NC, VA, or SC
Bash is current on vaccines, heartworm negative and has been neutered with a full dental polish at the same time. He has a very mild heart murmur (1/2 out of 6) and had a cherry eye fully repaired in foster care. We would prefer him to be fostered or adopted in NC but are open to nearby states for the right situation. If you are interested, please fill out an application at www.doxiebyproxy.org/application You can also message us on FB with any questions. We are happy to jump on the phone with you as well.
Yes, Bash isn’t for everyone. In fact, he isn’t for most people. But we know that there are others out there like us that are called to the spunky pups. Bash deserves the right environment and person to help him become the best version of himself.
If Bash isn’t a fit for your home, please share his story far and wide so we can help him find the right forever or foster home.
