Story
It was nearly the "eleventh hour" when we got word that Sully needed rescuing, and he needed it badly; he was on the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in AL. His advocate at the shelter begged us to save Sully's life as she saw something very special in him. Check out his gentle nature in his video. And so, even though Sully does not likely have one segment of Golden Retriever in his DNA, he became a "Sunshine" dog!
Sully is thought to be about 1.5-2 years old. He came in rather thin at 65 lbs, but has gained some weight and is now 73 lbs. Sully is a good boy who is starting to feel better, both physically and emotionally, as he settles in. Sully will lie down when he is unsure about something, but each day, he is gaining more and more confidence, showing his adorable, fun-loving personality.
In fact, Sully has some of the best personality features that will make you swoon over him. He loves to be loved and soaks up affection from his human friends. When it comes to his four-legged canine pals, Sully is the most pawsome fellow. He goes up to each dog's kennel and greets them with a wagging tail. And he will transform into a big, cuddly teddy bear when it is time for snuggles or naps. Sully is at the age where he is like a sponge, soaking up EVERYTHING that you teach him - not only is he smart, but he also has a strong desire to please. If you can spare a few minutes every day, we are pawsitive that Sully will accumulate a number of cute tricks for you to show off.
One of our volunteers at the clinic shared such sweet details about Sully. "He's affectionate and smooches me and loves, loves, loves attention and being petted. After the first day, he showed his exuberant and playful side. You know, that wonderful puppy power activates and he shows his extra cuteness, pouncing and wanting to play, getting down on front legs and romping around. He does this adorable leap move where he almost hops and bounces sideways - seriously cute!! He's patient and loves treats, and will sit for a treat and give his paw. He's long-legged and lanky, but he also fits on my lap, kinda. :-) Sully is such a nice and gentle soul. He's a love sponge who yearns for a place to stretch out and a kind person to give him belly rubs and nuzzles."
This handsome golden-hearted boy, with his creamy patchwork coat, is sure to turn heads when out and about with his adopter. And with the adorable "mask" on his face, this heart bandit will steal yours in a minute! With a little work on the leash and some basic commands, he will be an AMAZING dog for some lucky adopter!
Believed to be a Great Pyrenees mix, Sully is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, micro-chipped, and heartworm negative. He has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention. He will be ready to come north from AL in mid-November to be directly adopted. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt this cuter than cute boy.

About Our Rescue
Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.
The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.
Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.
Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
