Story
Sheeba is a lovable, playful 5 year old Boxer mix with a gentle heart and a fun loving spirit. She can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but once she feels comfortable, she’s incredibly affectionate offering sweet eye contact, taking treats gently, and lots of love. Sheeba adores squeaky toys and balls (and is happy to trade them for treats!), walks nicely on leash, and enjoys staying close to her handler. She may show mild reactivity to other dogs, especially if they react first, but she’s easy to manage and eager to please. Best suited for a home with teens and up, Sheeba is looking for a family ready to give her plenty of playtime, attention, and cuddles. Come meet this sweet girl and see if she’s your perfect match! If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York#Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #takemehome #adoption #rescue #rescueismyfavoritebreed #opttoadopt

Story
Bear Foster/Home Needed – Long Island, NY area Meet Bear. This sweet, social, 12-year-old gentleman is looking for the perfect home to spend what’s left of his life. Bear is a large mixed breed weighing approx. 50lbs. He was surrendered by his people because they were moving, and Bear was not welcomed to move with them ☹ He was slightly underweight and originally showed signs of neglect. Bear suffers from chronic kidney disease, but it has been well managed as of late. Thankfully we were able to find a wonderful, temporary home for him but he needs a place and people to call his own. Bear is relatively low energy and loves a good nap. He also loves puzzle toys and treats 😊 He has really come out of his shell, now that he’s safe and well cared for. He’s good with kids and friendly with familiar dogs. Look at him walking with his foster siblings. He hasn’t had any exposure to cats. We'd love to see Bear spend his final years in a comfy and calm environment. If you think you are the right home for this deserving guy, please contact adoptions@paws-li.org or call the number listed below. Name: Bear Age: 12 years Color: brown and white Reason for Rescue: Owner surrender Health Concerns: chronic kidney disease Behavior Concerns: None ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://paws-li.org/html/adopt+foster/adopt-1.php Contact: adoptions@paws-li.org

Story
Say hello to beautiful Nova! She's a very sweet 1 year old girl who we think is a Boxador (Boxer & Lab mix). She has a beautiful black coat with white on the tip of her nose & tail and cute white socks! They say the eyes are the window to the soul and you can see her sweetness in her soulful eyes. She's 45 pounds but we think she could easily gain another 5 pounds or so. We've just rescued her and she's living with a Foster family who will give her love and time to relax and get ready to meet her forever family. Her Foster Mom says she has a very sweet & loving personality with happy-go-lucky energy but she's not a hyper girl at all. She gets along beautifully with everyone she's met and loves playing with other dogs but hasn't been tested with any cats yet. We have 2 videos from the day we rescued her from the Shelter and we can send them to you and you'll be able to see how sweet and friendly she is. Her tail goes 100 miles an hour but she's not jumpy or wild at all. We've taken her to our Vet and she's healthy, spayed and up to date on all her vaccinations. We think she'd love living with a doggie sibling but would do great as a solo with a loving and active family. Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue.com) to get lots more info on this sweet girl!

Story
At just 3 years old and 46 pounds, The Rock still has his whole life ahead of him… he just needs someone to help him believe that again. When he lost his home, his entire world came crashing down. Since arriving at the shelter, he has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and comfort-seeking, but the sudden change has left him anxious and unsure about the world around him. He’s found a small sense of safety in his kennel, and right now, stepping outside of it can be scary. But with patience, understanding, and someone experienced with anxious dogs, The Rock will rediscover his confidence. He just needs someone to show him that this isn’t the end of his story—it's the start of a happier, safer chapter. Give him time to decompress, space to trust at his own pace, and the love he’s been missing… and you’ll find a deeply affectionate, loyal dog waiting at the end of that journey. The Rock has been dog-friendly here and may even benefit from a calm, confident canine companion. If you can offer patience, guidance, and a heart ready to help a sweet soul rebuild, The Rock is ready to meet you. He’s truly worth the journey. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability.
