Story
Meet Rudy I am a handsome 4-year-old Shepherd mix weighing 55 pounds looking for a new beginning after my owner, due to personal circumstances, could no longer keep me. Now Im with Posh Pets Rescue, hoping to find a loving forever home. I am an obedient, loyal boy with a gentle soul and a playful side. My tail is always wagging when you talk to me, and I absolutely love my stuffed toys, chasing balls at the park and going for walks. I walk very nicely on leash, love car rides, and know many commands including sit, stay, easy, walk, and even talk for a treat. If you howl, I'll happily join in and sing with you! Im housebroken, up to date on all my vaccinations, and very well behaved in the home. Rudy would do best as the only pet so he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. Hes also a wonderful watchdog and will proudly let you know when someone is at the door with his big woof. Rudy is looking for someone who wants a loyal companion for walks, cuddles, and cozy nights at home. Apply to adopt Rudy today https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/POSH/Dog

Story
Sheeba is a 5.5 year young Boxer with a heart as big as her love for tennis balls. The moment she’s outside, her sweet personality shines! She’ll look back at you with soft eyes, happily stay by your side, and remind you just how special the bond between a dog and their person can be. Her absolute favorite game is fetch, and she’s a true teammate. She’ll politely bring the ball right back, patiently wait for you to throw it again, and could happily play together for hours. When playtime is over, Sheeba is all about affection, leaning in for love and sometimes giving an excited little jump just to ask for another scratch or cuddle. Sheeba has made wonderful progress and continues to show her playful, loving side to the people she trusts. She’ll thrive with an active family who enjoys playtime just as much as she does. Sheeba is looking to be the only pet in an adult/teen home where she can soak up all the love, attention, and tennis balls she deserves. If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220Wantagh Long Island, New York #longislandanimalshelter #boxer #adoptaboxer #ideserveachance #ideservelove

Story
Charlie - 4.5 months old & 18lbs (as of 10/15), Hound/Boxer Mix, Neutered Expected to be about 45lbs full grown  This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Thier Foster Parent Says: "Charlie is a super sweet puppy!  He gets along so well with my 75 lb boxer and they play periodically throughout the day.  He his easily correctible if my dog is done playing, Charlie bows down and stops. He has a medium level of energy, is fully ready to play everytime we go outside into the yard, and is equally ready to chill and sleep. He is just learning to play with toys and people, but loves to play and wrestle with other dogs. We live upstate Ny so how he is in the city I would not know. But he loves running and rolling in the grass, loves to dig in the dirt a little, and loves to grab a slipper here and there. He is very good about relieving himself outside every time I put him out to play and he has only had two pee accidents because I was not seeing his pee signs before hand. He also knows the word ‘no’ and sit and does both very well. He loves treats and takes them very gently. He is super sweet with new people and will run up to them right away, but a little timid to let you fully touch him as it seems he doen’t immediately like to be picked up. I have not walked him on a leash yet but will do in the next day or two to see how he does -it is all new to him so inside the house, he pulls a little when you try to guide him with the leash – he is not used to this at all yet. I have not seen him with children yet but I feel he will be gentle and like them as he does adults so far – he is not jumpy and nippy at all. He has slept through the night every night since I have had him, without crying or needing to pee. He sleeps in his bed on the floor next to mine and is not needy at all. He loves his crate and has not problem going In for a nap, snack or when I have to leave the house. He did not cry at all when I left. If I have to leave the house more than 4 hours (which has been one time) he is perfectly content in his crate wth a kong of peanut butter and greeting our dog ‘walker’ eagerly when she came in at the midway mark. He was super friendly and they went out intot he fenced yard for. A half and hour to play. She had no issue getting him back in the crate inticed with a pig ear. He jumps a little bit when excited, but he stops the minute you tell him to. He does not need a ton of cuddles and will not get on the couch or bed unless you bring him up, but he will cuddle if you cuddle him – he is not needy so far." Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy level:MEDIUM – Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Yes - Charlie is crushing this!  Social with dogs?Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Sort of – some puppies enjoy interacting with children, others get easily overwhelmed by their energy and attention. Regardless, most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully. Charlie seems like a good fit for a home with kids.  Social with cats?Yes. Most puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: Charlie is doing really well with this. He is not super mouthy at all.  Separation anxiety:Nope - Charlie is fine left home alone. Good at self soothing.  Leash manners:Learning how to walk on a leash. He was rescued for the USVI and was an off-leash dog. Crate trained?Yes - doing great in a crate.  Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. (For dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.) How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2869779##
