Story
If you love outdoor adventures Wallace is the dog for you. This 2–3-year-old Boxer/Hound sweetheart is an active boy– he loves hiking on the trails, running in the snow, splashing in the water – it’s all good with him. He walks well on leash, and actually loves to lead the way, which is really sweet. Oh, and he loves riding in the car, especially if its for a pup cup! At 77 pounds Wallace is a big guy but is as gentle and affectionate as could be. He is very intelligent, a good learner and has a strong desire to please his people. He loves to play but also settles down easily. And while he sleeps through the night on his bed, he would always prefer to share yours if given the chance. Wallace is currently in foster, where he is doing great, but he is waiting eagerly to find his forever home. He is looking for an experienced owner to guide him and be his best friend. He would do best in a home with adults or older kids who can manage his size and energy, and while he plays well with other dogs, should be the only dog in the home. Also on his wish list... a yard where he can explore and stretch his legs! In return for all of that he promises to give back with loads of love and lots of loyalty. Kindhearted Wallace just can't wait to find that forever family who will appreciate how truly special he is! Could it be you? Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a dog from A New Chance Animal Rescue (https://anewchancear.org). We are a 501c3, tax deductible organization. ANCAR is a foster-based rescue, and we adopt within a 90 mile radius of Bedford Hills, NY. You will find the adoption application here: (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-application/). All fields on the application must be completed. Please read about the adoption process (https://anewchancear.org/adopt/adoption-process/) so you'll know what to expect when you submit. Our dogs are in foster care and we do NOT have a shelter or boarding facility. AN APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL AND APPROVED BEFORE A DOG CAN BE MET. This is a firm policy. Our busy volunteers are not able to respond to questions about the dog or dog meeting requests in the absence of an application. We know these dogs very well because they are in foster care. Please read the profiles of the dog(s) you are interested in prior to submitting an application. If there are specific requirements stated (ie: Fenced Yard or Canine Friend Required) these are included because they are vital to the happiness, health, safety and adoption success of that dog. We are only able to save as many dogs as we have foster homes (https://anewchancear.org/foster/faqs/) and resources for. We provide medical care including vaccinations, testing, deworming, spaying/neutering and microchipping before transporting our dogs. We provide all supplies, preventatives and any follow up vet care necessary while they are in foster care. These costs are high and the number of lives we can save is entirely dependent upon donations from people like you. We do not receive funding from private foundations or government sources. If you can find room in your heart to help us, with any amount, we are truly grateful (https://anewchancear.org/help/donate/). We are a 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. It is only through the kindness of supporters like you that we are 'changing lives...one tail at a time' by providing our dogs with 'A New Chance.' (https://anewchancear.org) Thanks so much.

Story
At just 3 years old and 46 pounds, The Rock still has his whole life ahead of him… he just needs someone to help him believe that again. When he lost his home, his entire world came crashing down. Since arriving at the shelter, he has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and comfort-seeking, but the sudden change has left him anxious and unsure about the world around him. He’s found a small sense of safety in his kennel, and right now, stepping outside of it can be scary. But with patience, understanding, and someone experienced with anxious dogs, The Rock will rediscover his confidence. He just needs someone to show him that this isn’t the end of his story—it's the start of a happier, safer chapter. Give him time to decompress, space to trust at his own pace, and the love he’s been missing… and you’ll find a deeply affectionate, loyal dog waiting at the end of that journey. The Rock has been dog-friendly here and may even benefit from a calm, confident canine companion. If you can offer patience, guidance, and a heart ready to help a sweet soul rebuild, The Rock is ready to meet you. He’s truly worth the journey. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Story
Bear Foster/Home Needed – Long Island, NY area Meet Bear. This sweet, social, 12-year-old gentleman is looking for the perfect home to spend what’s left of his life. Bear is a large mixed breed weighing approx. 50lbs. He was surrendered by his people because they were moving, and Bear was not welcomed to move with them ☹ He was slightly underweight and originally showed signs of neglect. Bear suffers from chronic kidney disease, but it has been well managed as of late. Thankfully we were able to find a wonderful, temporary home for him but he needs a place and people to call his own. Bear is relatively low energy and loves a good nap. He also loves puzzle toys and treats 😊 He has really come out of his shell, now that he’s safe and well cared for. He’s good with kids and friendly with familiar dogs. Look at him walking with his foster siblings. He hasn’t had any exposure to cats. We'd love to see Bear spend his final years in a comfy and calm environment. If you think you are the right home for this deserving guy, please contact adoptions@paws-li.org or call the number listed below. Name: Bear Age: 12 years Color: brown and white Reason for Rescue: Owner surrender Health Concerns: chronic kidney disease Behavior Concerns: None ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://paws-li.org/html/adopt+foster/adopt-1.php Contact: adoptions@paws-li.org

Story
Sheeba is a sweet, playful 5 year old Boxer mix who is looking for her forever home! She’s friendly but a bit cautious with new people. Once she’s comfortable, she’s loving and gentle, offering sweet eye contact and accepting treats with care. She loves to play with squeaky toys and balls and will happily trade them for treats! She walks well on a leash and stays close to her handler. She does show some mild reactivity to other dogs, especially if they react first, but she’s easy to manage. Sheeba is best suited for a home with kids 16 and older, due to her playful, high-energy nature. She’d love a home where she can get plenty of attention, playtime, and cuddles! Come meet Sheeba today and see if she’s the perfect fit for your family! If you are interested in learning more contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220#Adoptme #adoptionistheoption #takemehome #adoption #rescue #rescueismyfavoritebreed #opttoadopt #longislanddogs #longislanddogparents #adotions #dog #doggo #dogsofnewyork #newyorkcitydogs #NYCdogs ##nycrescuedog #rescuedog #nyadoptable #longislandanimalshelter #animalshelter #shelterdogs #shelterdog #shelterdogsrock #rescuedogsarethebest

Meet Gemma This beautiful girl came to our shelter after being found tied to a fence.
