About Nixie: Size? Small-ish Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? Medium - I bark when other dogs bark or there's someone at the door. Good with Dogs? Yes! I would do best with a playmate in my new home. Good with Cats? Yes, but I do try to play with them sometimes. I back off when they tell me to though. Good with Kids? Yes, but dog-savvy kids preferred. Good with Strangers? Yep! Potty Trained? I'm working on it! Crate Trained? Yes, with some encouragement Shedding? Medium ✨ Meet Nixie — Your New Adventure Buddy! ✨ Nixie is an adorable, fluffy Pomeranian/Husky mix (our best guess!) with a beautiful brown-and-white coat and a whole lot of personality packed into her petite 15–20 lbs. Don’t let her size fool you—this girl is energetic, spirited, and always ready for fun! 🌟 Personality & Play Style Nixie is a sweet, playful pup who loves to chase and wrestle with other friendly dogs. She would thrive in a home with a dog who enjoys active playtime and silly games. She’s been wonderful with the cats in her foster home—mostly ignoring them, but occasionally trying to initiate play. When they decline, she politely backs off. Nixie has also been great with the children in her foster home. She was a bit fearful at first, but after a few days of settling in, she became their loyal little buddy. 🏡 What She Needs Nixie is happiest when she’s busy, both mentally and physically. She’ll need: • An active dog friend or humans who can commit to lots of exercise and enrichment • A securely fenced yard for zoomies and energy-burning outdoor fun • A consistent potty routine—she’s making real progress and does well on a schedule • A cozy kennel—she settles nicely in her crate 🛁 Bonus Features She’s a pro at bath time… but also thinks running through mud puddles is the BEST. Nixie is an affectionate, joyful pup who will reward her future family with endless laughs, love, and adventure. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion who’s as cute as she is spirited, Nixie might be your perfect match! Nixie is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for her age. Story
Name: Zorro Sex: Male Color: Black/White Eye Color: Blue Birthday: 05/13/25 Weight: 32 lbs Dog Friendly: Yes! He plays well with dogs of all sizes. Zorro loves to play and understands when other dogs give him a signal to stop. Cat Friendly: Had a brief encounter with a cat and did not chase. Kid Friendly: Yes, he enjoys being around kids. He may jump when he’s excited or playful. Reaction to New People: Very easy—he loves attention and meeting new people. Crate Trained: Yes – he sleeps quietly in his crate overnight and also settles in during the day when needed. Housebroken: About 95 % there. He rings the doggy doorbell to go out, though sometimes he tries to use it for extra walks. Energy Level: Medium – playful in the mornings through mid-afternoon, then calms down. Training: Knows sit and come; still working on additional commands. Grooming Needs: Weekly brushing to keep him comfortable and used to handling. Fence Needs: Foster home does not have a fence. He does well on a zip line, but with a tie-out he tends to dig. Solo or Siblings: Happy either way – he can play with other dogs or keep himself entertained. From the Foster Zorro is a smart, loving, and playful pup who learns quickly and enjoys being part of the family. He’s already picked up sit and come and is eager to continue training with his new people. At night, he’s usually settled in his crate by 9:30 pm and sleeps well until morning as long as he goes potty before bed, only whining around 6 am when he needs to go outside. He is doing wonderfully with crate training, is making great progress with house training, and even rings the doggy doorbell when he wants to go out (though sometimes he tries it just for fun). Zorro is very affectionate—he loves to play, but he also loves to cuddle up with his people. With his gentle, playful spirit and eagerness to learn, Zorro will make a fantastic companion. Zorro has a heart condition called Mitral valve dysplasia (MVD). He has been seen by a cardiologist and there is no treatment or medications needed currently. He will need a recheck with a cardiologist when he turns one. Adoption Fee: $450 All dogs coming into Adopt a Husky Minnesota receive care tailored to their needs, including: Nose-to-tail exam with a partner veterinarian, Vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Leptospirosis, Bordetella), 4DX test to check for heartworm or tick exposure, Fecal Analysis, Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventative, Spay/Neuter prior to adoption, Microchip, and are evaluated for temperament and trainability.

Story
Name: Yuki Sex: Female Color: Isabella White Eye Color: Brown Birthday: 11/15/20 Weight: 49lbs Large Dog Friendly: Yes, good with new dogs she meets. Does best with male dogs. Small Dog Friendly: So far, she has been good with the few smaller dogs she has met on leash. Cat Friendly: NO - very high prey drive. Crate Trained: Very short periods of time, and only while we are home. Trusted to free roam when we’re not home, but our home is pretty much husky-proof. Has a history of harming herself when crated in her first foster home. Housebroken: Yes, she will let you know when she needs to go out. Energy Level: She has her calm times and long naps, and she also gets zoomies and loves to play rough a few times a day like most huskies. She loves walks and loves to be outside watching squirrels or bunnies in a fenced yard. Reaction to New People: Good with adults and older kids. Working on manners and socialization. Kid Friendly: Older, calmer kids are best for her. Smaller children make her nervous, especially if they get too close too fast. Training: She knows the basics; sits before getting her food dish and is pretty good at coming when called. Could use some better leash manners but has improved. She really wants to meet and play with other friendly dogs on walks. She would likely benefit from some socialization to gain confidence in new/public situations. Like most huskies, she is a runner, so caution by the doors and getting in and out of the car is needed. Grooming Needs: Normal husky coat brushing about once a week or so, more when blowing her coat. She does shed less than other huskies we’ve had, her fur is on the shorter side which helps. Does okay with baths but only needs that once or twice a year. Gets dirty while playing, but the dirt tends to fall off quickly – it’s a husky thing. Fence: Yuki would do best with at least a 4-foot-high fence, 6 feet would be better. She loves to be outside; rain or snow do not bother her much. She hasn’t tried to dig out lately but is a true husky escape artist so should be supervised even with a fence! Solo or Siblings: Yuki would do best with a male dog with lots of energy to match hers in play. Preferably male husky (or other high energy dog) around her age or younger. Once she got comfortable in her foster home, she started being less tolerant of female dogs in the home. We’ve been working on that. She could also do well as a solo dog, with lots of play and attention to get her energy out. From the Foster: Yuki is a sweet, furry little princess who loves attention and belly rubs. She has her relaxation times and has her zoomies and loves to play. She’s a bit shy and hesitant in new situations and would benefit from socialization and group training class. Like a typical husky, she loves to run, climb, jump etc, so may also benefit from joring or agility classes. She loves attention and belly rubs; she will lay on her back and paw at you or reach out to you for more if you stop. She is quite a talker, like many huskies are, and when the neighborhood dogs bark, she howls to join in. She is an all-around adventurous, loving, curious and goofy girl who may be shy and nervous at first, but who settles in fairly quickly to be her true husky self. She would love to have a more mature human or family to experience life with, and to help her learn to enjoy the world

Story
Name: Nugget Sex: Female Color: Red & white Eye Color: Blue Birthday: 06/11/21 Weight: 50 lbs Large Dog Friendly: Yes, with a slow introduction and the right dog. Nugget can be a bit bossy when she gets nervous. Small Dog Friendly: She recently spent a weekend with a pug and had no issues. She seemed curious and unsure about what to think of a smaller dog. Cat Friendly: Unknown Crate Trained: Yes Housebroken: Yes Energy Level: Medium Reaction to New People: Friendly Kid Friendly: She would do well with kids age 12+. Her foster family does not have children. Training: Knows sit and is working on the other basics. Grooming Needs: Nugget has a standard husky coat which will require regular thorough brushing. You should aim for once a week or so, and more when she is blowing her coat, typically twice a year. Fence: Fence or tie-out will work fine. She has shown no interest in testing fence boundaries. Solo or Siblings: She would be fine as an only dog or with a confident, laid-back sibling. From the Foster: Nugget came to AAHMN after being in two different shelter facilities for a few weeks. She was on a euthanasia list but luckily found a place with this rescue. Understandably, Nugget was quite stressed when she first came to her foster home but is now much more settled. She must have had a nice family at some point in her past because she loves people! She likes to snuggle and LOVES belly rubs! She is eager to please and is happy when you’re happy. Unless it's breakfast time and you’re not getting her food fast enough, then she’ll talk at you to hurry up! Nugget is currently living with a fur foster brother and enjoys playing with him, but she would be perfectly fine as an only dog too. She has shown some resource guarding around food and toys, but her foster family is working with her and she has been improving. She recently had a session with a trainer who thinks this issue stems from lingering uncertainty about her environment after being in a shelter for so long. A home that can provide consistency and structure will help her relax and be her best self, so any children in her new home should be 12+. Previous dog owner experience would also be beneficial for her. Other than that, we think Nugget will make a great addition to her new family and are excited for her to find her forever home. She deserves it! He absolutely loves being the center of attention and thrives when he’s engaged with his people. Eddie is full of energy — we strongly recommend two walks a day or access to a secure yard where he can run and burn it off. When he gets bored, he’s been known to try out his newest “skill”… digging! We’re actively working on redirecting this behavior with positive reinforcement. He’s a toy lover through and through, especially when it comes to puzzle toys or anything that challenges his mind. Eddie is treat-motivated, eager to learn, and overall easy to correct with gentle guidance. He’s currently teething, so frozen treats and chew-safe enrichment items are a must to keep him comfortable. Eddie is a sweet, spirited boy with a wonderful personality. With the right family and adequate exercise he’s sure to be an incredible companion and a joyful addition to your home. Arya is a beautiful energetic and friendly Husky. She’s 9 years old but still plays like a puppy with other dogs. She’s also really friendly with people and loves cuddles. I need to find a new home for her because my living situation is about to change and I fear I will not be able to take care of her properly anymore but rest assured she’s a fantastic and lovely dog.
