Story
Hi, I’m Nana and I’m ready for my forever family! My story started a little unexpectedly. I was wandering on my own when a very kind family found me and brought me into their home to keep me safe until Animal Ark had room for me. I didn’t know what to expect, but I quickly learned that couches are soft, people are gentle, and life feels a whole lot better when you’re loved. While I stayed with them, I got to play with their two dogs, we had so much fun together. I also spent lots of time snuggling with their kids, who were 8 and 17. They made me feel like part of the family, and I did great with everyone. Now I’m at Animal Ark, and I’m hoping the next chapter of my life brings me something I’ve never had before: a forever home of my very own. I’m a young dog with a big heart, a playful spirit, and a love for companionship. Whether it’s romping around with other dogs, hanging out with kids, or curling up next to you after a long day, I’m happiest when I’m with my people. If you’re looking for a sweet, social, and loving companion, I’d really love to meet you. Maybe your home is the one I’ve been waiting for.

Story
Hi there, I’m Candy! I’m a 2-year-old husky mix with a big smile, a bigger heart, and enough energy to keep up with even the most adventurous humans. I came from an Indigenous reservation in South Dakota, and now I’m ready to start the next chapter of my life with a forever family of my very own. I’m an active girl who loves to run, play, explore, and make new friends. People? Love them. Other dogs? Absolutely — the more the merrier. If you’re looking for a buddy to join you on hikes, jogs, or just fun everyday outings, I’m your girl. If you think we might be a perfect match, submit an adoption application online so we can meet in person. I can’t wait to wag my way into your life.

Story
History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue Effort was a great success in welcoming over 180+ animals to rescue from rural areas in North Dakota before the cold set in. These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own! Chuck Bass was adopted and returned after not being a match in his previous home. He seems to do best with consistency, routine, and confidence and hopes to find his forever home soon! A Note from the Foster: "I'm Chuck Bass." If you're a Gossip Girl fan, you've heard that one before. A charming, handsome young man. Oh yeah, that's Chuck Bass. Aside from dashing good looks and enough charm to woo over any lady, Chuck has the brains of a shepherd and the playfulness of a husky. He's the type of dog that you want to bring out with you just to show him off. Loyal, intelligent, eager, he's the whole package served on a silver platter. Chuck is a training whiz. The combination of being food-motivated, energetic, and a love for mental stimulation makes him the ideal candidate for learning all types of commands. Within one week's time, he has learned "sit", "stay", "come", "(lay) down", "outside", "go potty" and "spin". By the time you are reading this, he likely has a few more tricks up his sleeve that he can't wait to show you! Chuck has also shown great athletic potential, running hard and fast, and high-jumping better than the adult dogs. If you've dreamed of training agility to a rescue dog, this guy is your chance. As long as Chuck's "need for speed" is met through regular exercise and mental stimulation, he is happy to spend time lounging around with you. His favorite spot at his foster home is curled up on the dog-bed next to his foster mom while she works, twitching his paws as he snoozes away. That being said, Chuck is an active and enthusiastic pup, so small children may not be ideal, as he's likely to bump them over or invade their personal space while he is still growing out of his puppy ways. A shared-wall home such as in an apartment building is not ideal for Chuck, as he does like to remind you that he is part husky, and therefore will sing his song of disappointment for some time when you leave or the first several minutes that he is kenneled for the night (though he does this much less once he knows your routine). Chuck loves to make friends as long as they are in the form of dogs and not in the form of cats. While he would LOVE to chase your cats, your cats would be much happier without Chuck chasing them. This prey drive does extend to squirrels and rabbits outside. He would love to have a dog pal to play with, but would be okay as an only dog, too. Right now, he happily coexists with three senior dogs and respects their boundaries when they politely (and not so politely) say "no thank you" to playing. Chuck is always down for a roadtrip. He is a polite and respectful passenger, especially when given a blanket to curl up on. He'd be an excellent companion for hiking, camping, sightseeing, and exploring. So, he sounds like quite the prize, right? And you can be the winner. Apply for him online today! A Note from the Foster: This is Chuck Bass! Chuck is a super sweet and playful pup ready for whatever life throws at him! He absolutely loves to play with other dogs! He has yet to meet one he doesn’t like, though big dogs can be a little spooky at first! He does sometimes think cats should want to play just like dogs, so if they run he thinks they’re playing! He’s not aggressive towards them, but will take some continued training to redirect him from the cats! Once Chuck has his playtime and zoomies out, he’s ready to cuddle up and give his kisses. He loves being very close to his humans! Chuck has been doing amazing with potty training, but being a puppy it will still be a work in progress. With frequent breaks and a watchful eye, he’ll be a pro in no time! He does really great in a kennel too, sleeps all through the night and does great with naps in his kennel too. He only barks or cries when he’s too overstimulated to settle, but eventually he works it out. If you're looking for a total love bug who will entertain you and love you endlessly, Chuck’s your boy! He can’t wait to find his forever home and share his love with his new family!

These animals are all so deserving and thankful to get a second chance in finding a forever home of their own! A Note from the Foster: This guy is about the happiest that they come🤩 He pretty much has a permanent smile on his face 24/7 & wants to be involved in everything I do. He currently lives with my three resident dogs - ranging from 8 to 60lbs🐶 He gets along with all. Riggs especially has taken a liking to my two large dogs, who are about the same size as him. 👯‍♀️ Riggs wants to PLAY all the time, even when my two resident dogs are sleeping, he’s trying to get them to play. Riggs is fully potty trained & keeps his kennel clean.🧻 He sleeps in his kennel at night & spends time in here throughout the day while I am working as well. He will sometimes protest this for a minute or two, but then settles in & is quiet until I let him out. Occasionally you’ll hear his husky shine through & he’ll let out a good wolf-like howl🐺 This smiley boy also rides great in the car in his kennel & you’d never even know he was there🚗 While Riggs does get along great with dogs, he does have some resource guarding tendencies. This comes as not a huge surprise as he came to us from ND, where he likely had to fight to survive. This however does not define him. We’re working on getting him into a good routine of learning to love his kennel - as he needs to eat in here as well as be kenneled whenever there’s human food present as well.🍔 Riggs is the best boy & hopes to meet you soon❤️🐾

Story
History: We recently helped a situation in Northern MN of two “sets” of husky mix families needing a second chance. They were at risk of being destroyed and rescue was needed urgently. They are extremely sweet kiddos who are each hoping to find forever homes of their own soon! A Note from the Foster: 🐾 Hi. I’m Rita. Professional Mama. Professional Drama Queen. Future Best Friend. 💅🐺 Hello, humans. My name is Rita and I’m a 2-year-old husky/shepherd mix with a BIG personality, a bigger heart, and an impressive résumé. Recently, I raised 13 puppies (yes… THIRTEEN). I’m basically a single mom who ran a daycare, a snack bar, and a wrestling league all at the same time. I am now officially clocked out and ready for my next job: being someone’s spoiled, beloved forever dog. ✨ Important Rita Facts ✨ ✅ Potty trained (I’m a lady) ✅ Crate trained (I can do hard things) ✅ Good with other dogs (I’m a friendly coworker) ✅ Good with kids (tiny humans = excellent petting staff) ❓ Cats? I haven’t met one yet, but I’m pretty sure I’d try to make friends like I do with everyone else. 🗣️ I’m talkative… like, husky talkative If you’ve ever wanted a dog who communicates using howls, woo-woos, and emotional commentary, congratulations—you’ve found your soulmate. I will absolutely tell you about my day, your day, and the injustice of an empty treat jar. 🎾 My hobbies include: • Fetch (I am an athlete) • Chewing bones (self-care) • Being obsessed with pets and treats (my love language is “both”) • Watching rabbits and deer outside like I’m filming a nature documentary 🦌🐇 🏡 My dream home: I would LOVE a home with a fenced yard where I can safely roam, explore, zoom, and live my best off-leash fantasy. I’ve got energy to burn and a nose that needs to sniff everything. 🥹 My soft side I’m still working through a little separation anxiety after leaving my babies. I’m learning that I’m safe, loved, and that my humans always come back. I just need someone patient and kindwho can help me feel secure. 📚 My “learning era” I’m sweet and smart, but I could use someone who can keep helping me with obedience and boundaries… mostly because I have a small issue where I believe I am a 70-pound lap dog. Yes, I will try to jump into your arms or climb into your lap when I want attention. No, I do not see the problem. Yes, I will do it again. 💖 In conclusion: If you want a loyal, loving, hilarious, talkative best friend who is great with dogs and kids, loves fetch, and will happily snuggle you like a living weighted blanket… I’m your girl. Adopt me and let’s be obsessed with each other forever. Love, 🐾 Rita (retired super-mom, part-time lap dog, full-time good girl)

Story
History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue efforts continue all winter long as we have recently welcomed another deserving group from our rural area partners in North Dakota. Dimitri has been diagnosed with multiple congenital heart defects including severe Tunnel-Type Subaortic Stenosis, moderate mitral valve dysplasia as well as a ventricular septal defect (VSD). Information regarding how the heart normally functions and flows as well as more detailed information regarding his heart disease can be provided and further discussed with any interested adopter! At this point in time, Dimitri remains at a high-risk for development of left-sided congestive heart failure and/or sudden death. he was prescribed atenolol, which aims to reduce the heart rate as well as the workload of the heart in an effort to delay the onset of heart failure and prevent sudden death. Due the severity of Dimitri’s disease progression, he can expect to have a lifespan of 2-5 years of age with medical management. However, unfortunately some dogs do not do as well as this. Monitoring at home as well as follow up recheck appointments will be important for monitoring disease progression and providing Dimitri a good quality of life. Because of his, Dimitri will also not be neutered to avoid the risk of putting him under general anesthesia. His adopter will need to be comfortable and able to keep him secure and responsible being an unaltered male dog. A Note from the Foster: Dimitri is a model foster dog! He's on the shy side around new people and surroundings and will try to keep some distance, but once he warms up, he's the ultimate velcro dog. If you're looking for a cuddle buddy that likes to play, Dimitri is your guy! Dimitri is a really smart boy and is oh so good. He knows how to sit, stay, and how to keep your feet warm under your desk while you work. He likes his crate and is crate trained. He sleeps in there at night and is quiet. We are starting to work on letting him stay out of the crate when we are sleeping or when we aren't home. He does great with our young kids and other dogs. He's not been around cats. He does well on walks - we are still working on not biting at the leash. Dimitri is oddly cautious around new stairs at first. After a little coercion he'll go up and down the stairs and then it wont be an issue again. He takes Atenolol once a day for his heart murmur and he is the most agreeable pill taker! The pills are tiny and once they are placed in a dollop of peanut butter, he'll lick it right off your finger. Dimitri is so special and he's so deserving of a super special family to love him and spoil him! He really hopes that's you!
