Story
Tyr is a male Siberian Husky born approximately 4/21/20 who recently came to us from a Reservation. He has a lot of energy and loves to play with our other dogs. Tyr also likes to spend time outside even when it is cold. Despite having the energy level of a young husky, he is also perfectly happy to curl up next to or on the lap of one of his favorite humans to watch a movie or two. Tyr ignores our cat most of the time. The cat can play and be naughty beside him, and Tyr leaves him alone. However, we noticed that Tyr can be selective when it comes to new dogs. Proper introduction is highly recommended. Another thing to note is Tyr can be food reactive. If there are other dogs or people nearby and he is eating, he may react.  Tyr treats his crate as a safe space and will go in willingly if the door is left open or for short periods of time for a time out, but he does not like to be left in the crate. He will hurt himself trying to get out of the crate if left for a long time. He will likewise pee in the crate. If we have to go on errands, we leave him in the house with our other dogs. We found out that being left by himself, despite not being in the crate, causes separation anxiety. He will try to get out of the house by chewing and clawing at doors and siding. He will also try to chew doorknobs. Sadly, the one incident of doorknob chewing damaged his canine and it had to be extracted. Tyr will need dental care to make sure his teeth do not get damaged further.  When it comes to feeding, we suspect that his previous owner fed him in his crate since he does not eat much from a dish left out in the open and seems to feel more secure eating in the crate. Tyr knows basic commands like sit and shake. He will tell you if needs to go potty.   Since Huskies tend to have a high energy level and separation anxiety, we think he would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time and is able to provide the physical and mental stimulation he needs. If not around most of the time, it will be better for Tyr to go to a home with another dog that he can bond with to ease his separation anxiety.  A home with a fenced-in yard will be the most ideal forever home for Tyr. He is an extremely talented escape artist and sees escaping as a game. He will not return even if you call out to him. Chasing him will make him run faster and further away.   As you can see from the pictures, he is a gorgeous black and white husky with one blue and one brown eye. He is also very fluffy and soft... perfect to cuddle with! If you think Tyr is the right dog for your family, please submit an application today!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, dental, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
This is Banjo! He’s a Husky born 8/27/22. Banjo is a sweet & intelligent dog, who does great with other dogs, loves toys & shows no issues towards adults or children.  He craves attention & interaction. He has been around dogs of all sizes & cats, even though he did bark at cats. He is learning to walk on a leash & since he doesn't have a lot of confidence, should be tethered carefully outside of a fenced yard, as he doesn't always come when called.  He only barks when other dogs bark, and has been submissive to senior dogs. He is not highly food or treat motivated, so training to come inside or go into the kennel is a work in progress. Once in his kennel, he does very well & sleeps quietly all night.  He does well in the car too! An active family would be the best for this young man, who still has much to learn & is eager to please! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 26, 2024, 4:02 pm

Story
Hi, I’m Meg! I’m a Husky born 12/19/21. I have lots of energy and would benefit from regular walks and/or an active person or family. I do okay on a leash. I don’t pull a whole lot but could benefit from some leash training. I do well in a kennel but my current foster family lets me have full reign of the house with the other dogs. I live with two other dogs and do well with them, however, the puppy in my still gets excited and I’ve nipped a time or two. I also live with two cats. I’m curious about them but don’t make any attempts to hurt or chase them. I also live with an 8 year old human. I may not be good for a home with smaller children as I am a bigger dog and haven’t learned how to greet you without jumping on you yet. I know the word down and will get down after a big slobbery kiss hello. I enjoy car rides and make an amazing travel companion. I enjoy snuggles with my foster family and trying to be a lap dog even if I don’t always fit. I’m pretty well potty trained. I’ve had a few accidents in the house while adjusting to my new home, but my foster family is getting better at picking up my cues that I need to go outside. I am generally pretty quiet but I will bark to say hello when you come from work, when the kid opens his bedroom door in the morning and out the window at the neighbor in their own driveway (the nerve of them to use their own driveway and not even show me love). My barks may be too loud in an apartment setting. I have lots of love to give and can’t wait to meet you.  Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, rabies vaccination, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Distemper combo vaccines appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule. Age: 10 years old Weight: 82 lbs Dog friendly: yes, companion dog required Cat friendly: yes Kid friendly: yes Potty trained: yes Crate trained: no, will use an x-pen *Companion dog required* Hi! My name is Kodiak. But you can call me Kodi! Not to toot my own horn, but I am a beautiful Husky and Malamute mix. I spent nine years with my previous family until they could no longer care for me. I had a dog sister and cat brother that I loved very much. I've proven myself to be great with dogs of all sizes and cats too! My whole world changed overnight and that was pretty hard for me at first. I had some separation anxiety in the beginning. But after I had some time to settle in, I understood that being in rescue means I am still safe and loved. I would definitely consider myself a gentle giant who absolutely loves a good cuddle. Wherever you decide to hang out I'll be there to provide a nice and fluffy pup to hug. I am a "pack dog" through and through. I love every human I meet, and I'm great with kids too!  When I go to the dog park, sometimes it's hard for me to decide whether to say hi to the humans or the dogs first.  I would be great for humans who work from home or have flexible schedules so I can get potty breaks during the day. I don't do well in a crate. But if you want to contain me in an x-pen or an area in the house, I'll just hangout there until you come back home. Once I fully settle in, you may be able to just let me hangout without containing me when you leave like my foster mom does. Keep your counters clear when you leave though! I'm a tall boy, and I may investigate food that's eye/nose level while you're gone. I'm a proud member of the "Woo -Woo" crew and love to talk when I'm excited. (Checkout my video). I know I am an older boy, but I still love walks and trips to the dog park.  I really just want to be with you. I like to relax/snooze next to you during the day, but I will happily hop in your car for our next adventure.   I've been waiting for my new family for a while, but rescue has taught me that my best days are still ahead of me. I know you're out there. I can't wait to meet you!  Adoption Fee: $325  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.INTERESTED IN MEETING ME? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This is Balto, one of Lulu's 10 puppies that were all saved from a SD Reservation. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training. Balto was adopted as a puppy and returned as an adult due to family changes.  Hi I'm Balto and I am looking for my forever home. I'm from a litter of 10 puppies and we all found our forever homes until mine didn't have time for a 'dog' anymore. So I ended up back at the rescue where I started. I'm in a foster home now and lucky to be with one of my sisters from my litter and I have a foster brother who is a Chihuahua mix. I get along with both of them and love playing with my sister but I am selective with all the animals in the home at times, so I would need to be an only pet in the home. I can socialize outside the home with other dogs, I just don't like to share when I'm in my own place. I have lots of puppy energy so I need a family that will help me learn and grow. I do know your basic commands sit, stay, lay, down and no. I like playing with toys, stuffies, chew bones, balls playing tug with my sister fetch with my foster parents. I do destroy stuffies so we might want to wait on them until I'm older. I love playing outside with my sister (fenced in yard) and going for walks with the whole family. I have lots of energy to burn so I need to stay busy so I don't do any naughty things when I'm bored. (Chew toys are a must) I take naps after a good play or walk and I love to snuggle with my human and sometimes I think I'm a lap dog. I'm a good eater and drink lots of water treats are good too but make me work for them so I don't forget my training. My foster parents tell me I'm a good boy when getting my treats I like that. I also like to relax and just sit in the yard / deck and watch the squirrels and birds. I'm okay by myself but would prefer my human to relax with me.(snuggles) I also love to hold your hand with my paw when we're just chilling. I do great in the car and love going for rides and watching out the window. I'm good with meeting new people I love the attention and I sit for kids and let them give me all the pets and belly rubs they want. When we go for our walks I do good when passing other people and dogs unless they want to meet me then I sit and get all the pets I can. When at home I do get jealous if my foster brother or sister is getting attention I like to push my way in and get the attention for myself I'm working on that now. I'm also working on sharing toys and chew bones with my foster siblings I like to have them all to myself but my foster parents tell me I am getting better at sharing them just need to be reminded at times. I'm still a young boy learning. We have cats in my foster home but I don't know how to react/play with them I get so excited I scare them so at this time I cannot be around the cats. My foster parents think when I'm older I could have a cat sibling. So at this time I am good with kids, a fenced in yard and no dogs or cats. So if you think you are my forever home and family and will continue to work with me let's meet. I'm ready for my forever family.  Balto is fully potty trained and will go to the door and bark/whine when he needs to go out. He also sleeps through the night anywhere from 8-12 hours depending on how much exercise he had the day before. He loves to sleep with his humans but will sleep on the floor, couch or dog bed if preferred. Please put in your application on our website mattysheartandsoulanimalrescue.rescuegroups.org.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 25, 2024, 11:44 pm

Story
Name: Yuki Sex: Female Color: Isabella White Eye Color: Brown Birthday: 11/15/20 Weight: 40 Large Dog Friendly: Yes, she does really well with all the dogs she meets at the dog park. At home she tends to get nervous with other dogs when they are too hyper or wild. Small Dog Friendly: Unknown Cat Friendly: No Crate Trained: At this time, no, as she is not used to being in a crate. Appears to have some separation anxiety and will need work to get crate trained. Housebroken: Yes Energy Level: She is typically very calm, but does get zoomies and likes to run around. She would do best in a home where she can relax, cuddle and get all the belly rubs! She also loves walks, and regular runs in a fenced in yard/area Reaction to New People: She is shy at first, but warms up quickly and loves pets. Needs to work on socialization with new people and situations Kid Friendly: Older and calmer would be best for her, as young kids and their noises and quick movements make her nervous. Training: She knows the basics, but could use some better leash manners as she likes to jump around and go all husky when asked to go potty. She needs socialization to learn some confidence in new/public situations. Like most huskies, she is a runner, so caution by the doors and getting in and out of the car is needed. Fence: Currently she goes out on a leash to go potty and then back in, as she does not appear to like the cold as much as a lot of huskies. She does respect the fence at a dog park, but at home would need to be on a tie out or supervised as she will dig under or try to climb out. Solo or Siblings: She would love to be the lone center of human attention, but could also like a sibling to play with, depending on the dog as she can be picky about her playmates and if they are too hyper she can be nervous. From the Foster: Yuki is a furry little princess that loves all the attention. She is overall pretty calm, but also has her husky zoomies. Since a small pup, she has always been a bit shy and hesitant in unknown situations/people and needs to build her confidence, but she does love to explore, and would benefit from socialization and group training class. Like a typical husky, she loves to run, climb, jump etc, so may also benefit from joring or agility classes. She is tolerant of baths, but is scared of water otherwise, and will tip-toe through wet grass. She loves attention and belly rubs, and will lay on her back and paw at you or reach out to you for more if you stop. She is an all around adventurous, loving, curious and goofy girl who needs a best friend to cuddle, experience life with, and to help her overcome her nervousness/fear of the world. Adoption Fee: $50 All dogs coming into Adopt a Husky Minnesota receive care tailored to their needs, including: Nose-to-tail exam with a partner veterinarian, Vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella), 4DX test to check for heartworm or tick exposure, Fecal Analysis, Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventative, Spay/Neuter prior to adoption, Microchip, and are evaluated for temperament and trainability.

Story
Name: Bob Barker Sex: Male Color: Silver-Gray Eye Color: Blue Birthday: 10/30/2022 (estimated) Weight: 47 lbs Large Dog Friendly: Loves energetic dog play. Friendly with female dogs but has been selective with other male dogs. Gradual, supervised introduction needed. Small Dog Friendly: Yes, but his "friendliness might be too energetic Cat Friendly: Definitely not! (Based on reaction to free-roaming neighborhood cats) Crate Trained: Yes. Eats, sleeps and rests in his kennel. Happy to enter, settles quickly, sleeps quietly through the night. Will protest briefly if he sees that his human is leaving the house, but responds to "Quiet. Stay. Housebroken: Yes. Energy Level: High. Plays hard. Needs mental and physical activity, walks that include exercise, training and sniff time, and long-lasting treat toys. Reaction to New People: Curious, eager, friendly. Loves kisses. Needs work on jumping up. Kid Friendly: Has met children only through a fence. Due to energetic play style, would do best with older, dog-savvy children. Training: Reliable Sit. Knows Wait, Back (behind a boundary) - needs work on duration. Comes when called, but distractable. Grooming Needs: Standard Husky Coat. Needs at least weekly brushing with an undercoat rake or pin brush (no furminators/blades). Easy to groom, no reactivity to handling ears, feet. Tolerates baths; doesn't love the blower, but no loud drama about it. Fence: Yes! 5+ feet with a locked gate. Great at opening gates and doors, will squeeze through any opening. Not great on a tie-out; he will fight until he is tangled in it, then try to chew himself free. Solo or Siblings: Bob would love a dog sister. Relationship with dog brothers would require a slower introduction. A more mature, confident dog companion would help him learn the ropes in a new home. He also loves snuggling and play with an active human. From the Foster: Bob is a really great dog! He's a strong, energetic, young husky. He loves to play and explore from morning 'til night - preferably outdoors. He also loves to snuggle in laps and give kisses. He's never met a human he doesn't love. He still needs practice at keeping four feet on the floor while greeting. His interactions with other dogs have been mixed. He bonds quickly with female dogs but doesn't like to share them with other male dogs. He needs a special human who will provide consistent leadership and super take time to supervise gradual introductions to male dogs in the house. He will chill next to my work desk for an hour, with a selection of good chew toys, but he'd rather be playing. He will hop right into his kennel for food and sleep contentedly, but he does not like to see his people leave the house without him. He will complain a bit but responds to Quiet-Stay. He loves long walks, especially good sniffing walks. He'll walk beside you, if you require it, but would rather be out front and pulling if you let him. He would definitely enjoy pulling sports. This playful boy will make a great adventure buddy for an active family. Adoption fee: $400 All dogs coming into Adopt a Husky Minnesota receive care tailored to their needs, including: Nose-to-tail exam with a partner veterinarian, Vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella), 4DX test to check for heartworm or tick exposure, Fecal Analysis, Heartworm and Flea/Tick Preventative, Spay/Neuter prior to adoption, Microchip, and are evaluated for temperament and trainability.

Name: Teddy Color: Red & White Eye Color: Blue Birthday: 09-24-2021 (estimated) Weight: 60 Large dog friendly: Yes Small dog friendly: No Cat friendly: No, strong prey drive Crate trained: Yes, but does whine, pace and bark. He occasionally will soil his kennel too. We are using a prescribed medication to help ease his anxiety. House-trained: Yes Energy level: Medium Reaction to new people: Friendly Kid friendly: Loves kids Training: Knows sit, paw, lay-down Normal husky coat which will require regular brushing. You should aim for once a week or so, and more when he is blowing his coat, typically twice a year. Fence: Strong tie-out recommended. He is an escape artist (can climb fences, and flip up gate latches) Solo or siblings: Requires a sibling, was adopted as a solo dog and was anxious, Just wasn't the right environment for him. From the foster: Need a snuggle buddy? Teddy is the one to keep you cozy at night and "aaaoooohhh" sweet nothings. Teddy gets along best with female dogs, and will take redirection well from dogs and humans. He tends to jump when greeting people and likes to counter surf. Teddy paces to let you know he needs to get business done, but has had a couple of accidents. He enjoys walking nicely on the leash (not pulling too hard), followed by cuddles on the couch with his foster and the kids, nudging them for pets. Teddy does have some separation anxiety when home alone. Shared walls/apartment living would not be a good fit as he can be noisy at times, he is getting better and many times will go lay in his crate by choice when we are home. He recently started having free roam at night and has been doing really good with the additional freedom in the house. Story
Name: Lobo Sex: Male Color: Black & White Eye Color: Blue Birthday: 01/31/21 Weight: 46 lbs Large Dog Friendly: Needs slow and controlled introductions Small Dog Friendly: Probably not Cat Friendly: No Crate Trained: Yes, needs a little encouragement, sleeps and naps there fine, crates when foster family is away from the house. Housebroken: Yes, but will poop in the house if he isn't given enough time to find a spot outside. Is fairly regular and gives cues when he needs to go (walks/sniffs differently). Energy Level: High energy but he naps hard when tired out. To get there we've taken him on 2 mile walks, fetch after shorter walks on the zip line, tug of war inside. When tired, he'll start to act up; just like a toddler, he doesn't know he needs to nap yet. We work at home and he naps in our office between walks. Reaction to New People: Excited, curious. He is still working on jumping and being mouthy when he is excited to see someone. Kid Friendly: 12+ Lobo gets excited by younger kids and he will run after, mouth/soft bite their elbows/arms. We are working with Lobo on this, but for now he does better around older, dog-savvy kids. Training: Quick learner! Sits if he's going to get something: go outside, a treat, a toy, etc. Has learned shake, starting to lay, learning 'leave it' on walks, learning 'close' on walks for loose leash with both a collar and gentle leader. Grooming Needs: Lobo has a typical husky coat that will require regular, thorough grooming. We recommend at least once per week, and more when he is blowing his coat (about twice per year). Fence: Lobo is doing well on a tie-out and respects baby gates in the house. He would likely do well with a securely fenced-in yard. Solo or Siblings: Lobo lived with another dog in a previous home. He may do well with appropriate introductions or could be your one and only! From the Foster: Lobo is a great boy, who is still working on a couple of things. He pulls on walks and gets excited by squirrels, rabbits, birds, and other dogs. He learns really quick and has made huge strides so far, but we are continuing to fine tune his training. He is a great running partner, pulling for up to 1.5 miles and then running alongside me for 1.5 miles. I believe he will be able to go further with continued workouts and could be a good candidate for dog sports. He can be silly and likes to play. He's protective of long-lasting snacks like a bone or filled Kong, and he counter surfs, so any opportunities to get at unsupervised food should be carefully managed. After a few weeks of settling in, I see Lobo learning the rules through training and routine. Lobo would do best with a strong experienced leader that is willing to continue his training. He will make a great partner for an active family who is ready to set him up for success! Story
Name: Tuxedo Sex: Male Color: Black & Tan Eye Color: Right brown, left parti-eye Birthday: 12/28/23 Weight: 36.6 pounds as of 6/29/2024 Large Dog Friendly: Yes Small Dog Friendly: Yes Cat Friendly: Unknown Crate Trained: Yes! Housebroken: Yes! Energy Level: Puppy, but should assume high as he gets older Reaction to New People: Very open and affectionate Kid Friendly: Yes Training: Sit, working on leash walking and down (off people) Grooming Needs: His hair now is pretty short, but that doesn't mean he won't shed! Being part husky, you should still aim for regular grooming including brushing once per week. Fence: Not required Solo or Siblings: Tux would love a sibling to play with From the Foster: Tux is very sweet and friendly! He loves everyone he meets and we are working on not jumping up on people. When we say 'down' and move him down he listens very well. He loves attention, so kisses and hugs and belly rubs are the best. He does not like to be left out so if we are giving attention to our husky Braxie he has to come join in! Tux walks well on a leash. He loves to stop and sniff all along the way but also wants to keep up with Braxie. He pulls a little when he sees a bunny, squirrel or other dog but listens pretty well when I try to get his attention with a treat. He knows sit and after getting a treat we are back to our regular walking. Tux is a good eater and very treat/food motivated. We haven't had any aggression around food at all. He does like to steal bones/chews but usually waits to do so until Braxie walks away. He loves to wrestle and chase in the yard. He does growl while he wrestles but it's all in fun. He barks a little, mostly when playing. He does instigate with Braxie and if Braxie isn't in the mood or has had enough, he'll let Tux know and Tux understands. He loves to find sticks and often carries a stick on our walks. He is kennel trained and does not bark or whine in the crate. After having him a month we have started to leave him out of the crate for short periods when we are not home. No issues at all. He is crate trained at night in a crate in the bedroom but he much prefers to sleep in the bed with us. Tux is completely house trained. He is very regular and on a routine but also will whine at us if he needs to go out. Then he'll go sit by the door while he waits for us. Tux is never alone. At his first foster home when he was a tiny puppy and now with us he's always had his people and/or dogs around. He loves to cuddle with us but his favorite spot is next to Braxie, wherever that may be. He is a very easy puppy and the most loving, sweet boy!
