Hi, I’m Ivy I’m a 5-month-old Shih Tzu with a pink bow, a playful spirit, and so much love to give. I love toys. I love other dogs. Playtime is my happy place, and cuddles? Even better. I’m sweet, and always ready to be your little sidekick. I may be small, but my personality is mighty. I also want to share my story… I was going to be euthanized by my breeder — simply because I wasn’t “perfect.” Thankfully, a rescue stepped in and saved my life. Here’s my truth: I’m incontinent and I don’t have control of my back legs. I wear a diaper (and I’m very good about it!), need help with changes, and can’t do stairs. But none of that stops me from living a full, joyful life. I scoot wherever I want to go and don’t let anything dim my sparkle. I’m looking for a foster home or a forever family who sees my heart before my challenges. I’ll need a little extra care — and I’ll give you a lifetime of love in return. Adopt Chucky! Chucky is a typical Shih Tzu in the very best ways: he’s adorable, energetic, opinionated, affectionate, and absolutely convinced that life should happen on his terms. His estimated birthday is 8.18.2019. This little guy is potty trained, walks well on a leash, and loves being around his people and his foster siblings. He’s always ready for whatever you have planned. Want to go for a walk? He’s in. Want to run and play? Absolutely. Want to curl up and chill? He can do that too. Chucky just wants to be with you! He has done well with other dogs and really likes cats. When he sees a cat, he’ll sniff, watch, and try to engage them in play. He has also met kids 10 and older and seems to enjoy their attention and wants to play with them. When it comes to new people, Chucky can be a little unpredictable. Sometimes he warms up immediately, while other times he prefers to take a little time to decide how he feels. He has been slightly more hesitant around adult men, although that hasn't been a major issue. Chucky does have a few quirks that his adopter will need to understand. He is protective of his food and needs to eat separately from people and other pets. If someone approaches while he is eating, he may growl to let them know he wants to be left alone. He should be given space and allowed to enjoy his meals in peace. He can also be a little mouthy. Chucky has nipped a couple of times, including when startled, and on a couple of occasions the nip has barely broken the skin or hasn't broken it at all. He has a strong personality and likes things done his way, so his adopter will need to be patient, respectful of his boundaries, and willing to continue working with him. He can be handled for the most part, although he does not like being touched in a particular spot under his right arm. And if you're wondering how to win this little security guard over, Bocce biscuits might be a good place to start. Chucky is always watching his people and everything happening around him. He's basically your tiny personal security detail. Chucky is looking for an adopter who will appreciate his big personality, respect his boundaries, and give him the guidance he needs to be his best little self. Meet Winchester. Winchester is a sweet little guy who weighs just 14 pounds, and our veterinarian estimates he is about 8 years old. Sadly, it appears he has lived a life of neglect. He came to us from a shelter in deep South Texas missing much of his fur and looking like he had likely gone a very long time without even the most basic veterinary care. We suspect he may have spent much of his life living outside or fending for himself. The girls here at the rescue have nicknamed him “The Mountain Man” because of his rugged coloring and scruffy appearance. He also reminds me of a little old man who smoked too many cigars....he has the deepest, funniest bark that always makes us smile. Despite his difficult past, Winchester has a gentle, easygoing personality. He gets along well with the other dogs at the rescue and is happiest just hanging out by your side. He isn’t asking for much—just a soft bed, a kind hand, and someone to love. More than anything, we would love to see Winchester spend his golden years in a loving home. We think he would be the perfect companion for a retired person or couple looking for a quiet, loyal friend. After everything he’s been through, he deserves to know what it’s like to be cherished, comfortable, and loved for the rest of his life. Winchester is currently located in Hondo, TX, but is available for transport to Geneva, IL on October 17th with an approved application. His adoption fee is $450 which includes the transport.
