Story
Meet Penny Penny is a purebred Shih Tzu who joined us in July after being found laying on a sidewalk in Chicago earlier in the summer during a heatwave. She was heatstroke and very dehydrated; a good Samaritan took her to the ER for immediate care. With fluids and support care, Penny recovered and was taken to Chicago Animal Control where she sat, until we took her into our Rescue. Penny is a sweet little pup, estimated to be 2-3 years old, and just 11 lbs. She has somewhat of a unique personality, for a young pup. She’s very mellow and is a bit of a loner. While fine with other dogs, she is not really interested in playing with them. That said, she may prefer to be an only dog but we do expect her to evolve into her true self, once she settles into her forever home with her forever family. Penny is fully vetted, heartworm negative and on year-round prevention, spayed and microchipped. She is reported to be housebroken as well. Meet Gizmo! Thanks handsome boy is believed to be a Shih Tzu Mix….likely a Shih Tzu – Havanese Mix…two very desirable little breeds! Gizmo is estimated to be 4-5 years old and weighs just 16-17 lbs. He is a very friendly little guy, good with everyone he meets. He enjoys the company of other dogs. Gizmo is fully vetted, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm tested and on year-round heartworm preventative, neutered and microchipped. Despite his appearance, Cappy is not a teddy bear. He is actually a 6 year old Shih Tzu! He weighs 12.5 pounds and is completely unbothered by his missing eye! He's just a happy, playful guy. He likes other dogs and we think he would be fine with kids. He warms up very fast to new people! He's also a smart little guy, learning basic commands, responding to his name, and walking on a leash well already! He's working on things like using stairs, pottying outside (so far, so good!), and spending time in his pen along. Cappy loves his toys, especially the ones that squeak back at home. He also doles out kisses freely and can't get enough pets, attention, and love. He's such an adaptable fella, we think he'll do well in just about any home. All he asks is that he gets lots of cuddles and affection! He likes to be touching his human at all times, and if you leave the room, he will cock his head to the side, watching your every move. Don't worry, if you go too far, he will quickly follow you! Cappy will make a great sidekick and loving companion to a very lucky adopter. Sweet Potato is a 7 year old, 12 pound, Shih Tzu with a sweet and curious demeanor! She does great with the other dogs in her foster home and would probably do just fine with cats, too. She hasn't met any children yet and we suspect she'd be shy at first meeting. She's still getting used to her new surroundings and decompressing in her foster home but, so far, she's very happy to spend time in her pen which is her safe space. She uses potty pads when needed in her pen, but she's also doing great with potty training and getting used to the routine! Sweet Potato is quiet and observant, watching what her foster family does. She enjoys exploring the house and yard and though she's shy with people at first, she takes comfort in other dogs. She would love to have a dog buddy to show her the ropes in her forever home! She is hoping her adopter will also be patient as she warms up, and help her get used to thinks like walking on a leash. Her big eyes and swaying tail will draw you in, and her silly sploots will have you hooked! If you'd like to give Sweet Potato the good life for the rest of her days, be sure to let us know by submitting an application! Sweet Potato's adoption fee is $600

Little guy Champ is exactly that, a champ! You see, he was surrendered to one of our veterinary partners after being hit by a car, when his owners could not afford the care needed to save him. He needed to have an eye removed and he has a fractured pelvis. Since he arrived at his foster home with TNT, he has been recovering from his injuries and is doing great! Champ is an 11 month old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix and he weighs about 8 pounds. He's used to being in his pen during his recovery and is totally content there. He keeps it clean and does well going to the bathroom outside on a schedule. He is fine with other dogs and we think he'd be fine with kiddos, too. He loves meeting new friends! He's a fun loving guy with energy and curiosity to burn! He loves to go for walks, sniff everything outside, and entertain himself with a yak chew. He's not hindered at all by his missing eye - he goes up and down the stairs and plays just like any happy puppy. Champ is so happy to see his foster mom when she approaches his pen, he jumps into her arms. Apply to meet Champ today! My adoption fee is $650
