I don't have any cats in my life, and I'm friendly with kids but I tend to knock them over because I'm excited to get to know them. I'm very friendly and love greeting my humans when they get home and love meeting new people. My sworn enemy is hardwood floors because I'm afraid I'll slip on them. I love learning and will work hard on getting a treat as long as the treat is something I'm into, because I reserve the right to be picky. I'm very well potty trained and I will ask to be let out if I need to go. I need lots of activity. If I don't get enough during the day, I'll ask you to play with me. I know sit, lay down, and shake, but I'm still working on getting these every time I'm prompted. I prefer to not be in a crate because it makes me nervous. I am able to free roam at night and when my humans are away without issues. The best kind of home for me is a home that can give me the active days I need, either through lots of outside time or through lots of challenging learning. I love being with other dogs and meeting new people and a home that can give me both would be ideal. Marvey is fixed, microchipped, and current on vaccinations appropriate for his age. Marvey was treated for Heartworm before coming into rescue and will need to be retested at 6 months and 1 year from treatment to make sure the treatment was effective. He will need year-round heart-worm preventatives for his lifetime. I am an adorable border collie/lab mix who wants nothing more than a home to call my own--and, preferably, a ball to call my own as well. I LOVE to chase balls, and if no balls are around, I'll make do with chasing anything you throw for me--stuffies, sticks, ropes... the options are endless. I also love going on car rides, sit politely in the back seat, and walk well on a leash. My foster mom says that I'm amazingly well adjusted given my rough history. I was 1 of 16 (!!) dogs rescued from a local home, and I haven't had the best care before now. For example, you might notice that I have a bit of a limp due to a wonky front foot. The vet says that this is likely caused by a ruptured tendon that didn't heal right. Fortunately, it doesn't slow me down at all! I also recently had 8 front teeth removed. Still, nothing can bring down my happy-go-lucky personality (except, of course, when my foster mom puts away my ball for the night). Here's a bit more from my foster mom: An ideal home for Gordy would be one that can give him lots of mental and physical stimulation. He really enjoys chewing on bones and bully sticks, playing tug with toys, and playing fetch. He's also a smart boy and has picked up on sit, lay down, and crate up very quickly. We're working on some new commands for him to show off! I think he'd do great with someone who enjoys having a dog that can be a companion to them on a variety of adventures! I`m Auggie, a 6-year-old Australian cattle dog (red heeler) that came to Animal Ark recently when life with a family that included two adolescents became a little much for me. Here`s what the AKC says about my breed: ACDs have immense work drive and excel at controlling and, of course, moving livestock. Their boundless energy and supple gait make them excellent running partners. ACDs are true-blue loyal, famously smart, tenacious, ever alert, and may be wary of strangers. If an ACD isn`t challenged, it easily becomes bored and may get into mischief. It is recommended that ACD owners participate with these versatile dogs in some work, sport, or regular exercise to keep them mentally and physically fit. It has been an adjustment coming into a shelter after living with my family for six years, and staff here are just getting to know me. If a running partner with the work ethic of a herder sounds like an adventure you are ready for, submit an adoption application to be scheduled for a meet and greet.

If you've been thinking about adopting a Special Needs dogs that thinks he's just like everyone else (but maybe a little better), Sven is the dog you've been looking for.  Found in a plastic bag as a young puppy, we're not sure of Sven has a little brain damage or very mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia.  He has a little bumbly swagger in his step, is blind in one eye and has an overbite - and all these things just somehow add to his charm.  He starts off a bit shy but before long will return all your hugs and greet you with a smile.   What special care does he require?  He needs to live with a dog friend and the best people in the world.  He needs a fenced yard so he isn't restrained by a tether but instead, free to explore his world.   Sven is kennel trained, potty trained, good with dogs and gentle.  The hard part of his life is over and he deserves blue skies and smooth sailing.  He's only about 17 pound.  His adoption fee is $500.  Apply at emotionalrescuedogs.org.  ##2810700##
