Blacked Eyed Susan (we call her Missy) is really the sweetest dog ever. All she wants is to be loved and get all the pets, cuddle and play. She will give you a full body hug when you come home and even fall over so you can rub her belly. She wants to be touching you at all times. She loves to rub her head into your neck or face, fully lay on top of you or have her head on your chest while nudging you for pets. She gets the zoomies daily and will play with her toys for about 30 minutes before crashing and talking a nap. She loves to play chase and is actually really gentle when you play with her. She will let you grab her toys and play tug or throw it for her to play fetch. She will drop the ball on her own wanting you to grab it and bounce it so she can jump after it. She is extremely treat motivated and LOVES her bones! A good bone can keep her entertained for hours. She will be your shadow. She wants to be everywhere you are. Going to the bathroom? She’s sitting in front of you making awkward eye contact trying to get you to rub her paw the whole time. Working or on the computer? She’ll try to climb into the chair with you then lay at your feet or next to you the whole time. She walks really well on the leash and the gentle leader! She is a quick learner and responds well to leash manner training. The gentle leader has helped the pulling and she is not so reactive to others while it’s on. She has learned that she has to get her paws wiped after coming in from outside. She also knows how to sit and wait before eating her food. We are also learning that “good” and “yes” means to pay attention to us. She needs a home with no animals or someone that can give her the training to overcome her reactivity towards other animals. She has consistently shown aggression towards our resident cat and is super reactive towards our neighbors dogs and dogs on walks. She is fearful of new people. She is very cautious at first but if you let her approach herself and they give her treats- she will warm up quickly. She has not shown fearfulness towards kids and is very gentle with them! Although she is friendly with men she is fearful of them. Male visitors need to be aware that she may randomly bark at them when they move around and they should not surprise her as she will go into protective mode. We recommend she be on a leash at all times outside or there needs to be a high fence. She has hops and can jump over an average height fence. She tries to take off after other animals when she sees or hears them. We recommend no shared walls as she’s a barker! If she doesn’t want to be in the kennel, in her room or she hears any noises- she will let you know! She also barks and goes crazy when she sees people or dogs walk past the house. We have been working through this with some improvement.

Viktor's journey hasn't been an easy one. He was part of a group of approximately 40 dogs who were dumped and taken to a Texas shelter before making his way into foster care. While we don't know much about his life before rescue, it's becoming clear that many of the everyday experiences we take for granted are very new to him. Viktor is a quiet, sensitive boy who is still learning what it means to feel safe. He's comfortable being near people and listening to their voices, but physical affection is something he's still figuring out. Being touched can make him nervous, so he's looking for someone who understands that building trust takes time and that sometimes the best way to show love is simply to give him space. There have already been some sweet little victories! Viktor has discovered the joy of having his very own cozy dog bed, has started enjoying chew treats, and is slowly becoming more curious about his surroundings. He even gave his foster his first little tail wag! These might seem like small things, but for a dog like Viktor, they're pretty big milestones. The outside world is especially intimidating for Viktor right now. His foster suspects he may have had very little experience outdoors, and things like walking on a leash, wearing a collar, and potty training are all going to take patience and practice. He's also discovered that his crate can be a safe place to retreat when he needs a break, which is encouraging! Viktor has been sharing his foster home with cats and has done well so far. He's shown some curiosity toward them but has mostly been indifferent to their presence. Viktor isn't going to be the dog who runs into your arms on day one, and that's okay. He needs a patient, understanding family who will let him move at his own pace, help him build confidence, and celebrate the little victories along the way. A quieter, predictable home where he can feel safe and learn about the world without pressure would be ideal. After such an uncertain start, Viktor deserves a chance to discover all the wonderful things life has to offer. And there's something pretty special about being the person who gets to show him. Viktor is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 11/6/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and 11:00am. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven’t arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Joyful. Smiley. Gentle. Silly. If you're looking for a dog who brightens your day simply by being herself, you found her! I'm Lassie, a 10-year-old, 48# Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mix (best guess), and I'm proof that growing older means you appreciate the good things in life. My theme song is "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Once you meet me, you'll understand why! I love a nice, leisurely walk, followed by a fluffy dog bed where I can stretch out and relax. I'm also an enthusiastic fan of pets, attention, and giving kisses to my favorite people. My foster family says I'm the perfect dog! I read the room like a pro: my fun, puppy-like energy comes out when it's time to play. Laying low while you're busy is no problem at all. I'm easy-peasy. My ideal home is peaceful with a family who enjoys staying close to home and believes in getting out for daily exercise. Short strolls are my favorite - I'm an amazing walking companion. Traffic, strange noises, and other dogs do not bother me. My fosters have taken me on outings to a parade and a brewery, and I got an A+ at both events! I could happily live with another calm dog or be your one-and-only. Best in a home without kitties or small animals I would interact with (chickens, ducks). Gentle, calm children could be part of my family, too. A fenced yard would be wonderful but its not a requirement. I want to be near my people, only outside if they are with me. You can leave me loose in the house without worrying. My fosters are helping me lose a few remaining extra pounds - boy do I feel good! You might notice I got a big haircut. That was part of the 'feel better' plan too - my mats are gone! One of my pictures shows my beautiful coat that will grow back soon.
