DOB 2/1/26; currently about 30# and will probably get to be 45-50#s, best guess. She is the most adorable puppy EVER! She is enthusiastic & confident; curious & playful; and very smart. She has almost mastered walking on a leash and she is good in her crate. She loves car rides. She is mostly quiet in the kennel, except when she needs to do her business! She loves people and dogs of All sizes and ages. Because she is young, we don’t recommend very young children be around her. In her puppy playfulness, she would probably knock the little ones down. Curious, interested in cats but not aggressive. Loves treats so she will be easy to train. She plays with the rope toy or stick with you, but she does not return it yet. She definitely acts goofy when she plays but also loves to snuggle in your lap. This dog is CURRENTLY IN TEXAS and available for pre-adoption. Adoptions include neuter/spay, vaccinations (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies), microchip, health certificate, transport with our professional dog transporter, and 6 mos of heart worm prevention. Story
My name is Sylvie and I am having a fun time learning how to dog. My foster mom says I have been very brave through this process. I had a rough start to the beginning of my life and now I spend my day playing with a bunch of toys (the puzzle ones are my favorite!), sniffing smells outside, and wagging my tail to all the hugs and kisses I receive. I am such a happy girl now. I have learned that I am a ball girlie, I love love love to chase a chuck-it and then I spend a good amount of time whipping it around myself before I let my foster mom throw it for me some more. I am also very good at going potty outside, I go out every few hours AND I make it all night sleeping in my crate without having to go out. Because of my background, some outside noises are still spooky to me, I am learning what a safe home is and what safe noises are. I get lots of treats on these special walks, lucky me! I am also very good at sitting for what I want - treats, toys, you name it! I would love a home that has treats, balls, and patience as I learn what the good life is. From foster mom: Sylvie came to Safe Hands as a stray with a limp, x-rays show that this sweet soul sadly has a leg full of buck shot. While this doesn't deter her from quality ball time, she will often not put full weight on the impacted limb. For what she has encountered, she is the sweetest soul once she gets settled and comfortable with her surroundings. Some outside sounds are spooky and she tends to pull/run when she gets spooked. She would thrive in a home that has a fence and with someone who will continue to work with her to make things feel less spooky. Squirrels are a source of intrigue, while she will simply sit and take in the sight of deer when present. This girl regularly asks for pets and loves to sit and simply be hugged. She is currently in a house with two dogs and two cats, she has been incredibly respectful of the dogs space and has also shown small moments of wanting to engage in play. Another medium size dog that wants to play would be such a great option for her. She has done well with the cats, largely not interested in them when she has a toy that interests her more - as always, a slow, gradual, and monitored introduction would be best here. Sylvie is estimated to be 1 year old and 24 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, and have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. Viktor's journey hasn't been an easy one. He was part of a group of approximately 40 dogs who were dumped and taken to a Texas shelter before making his way into foster care. While we don't know much about his life before rescue, it's becoming clear that many of the everyday experiences we take for granted are very new to him. Viktor is a quiet, sensitive boy who is still learning what it means to feel safe. He's comfortable being near people and listening to their voices, but physical affection is something he's still figuring out. Being touched can make him nervous, so he's looking for someone who understands that building trust takes time and that sometimes the best way to show love is simply to give him space. There have already been some sweet little victories! Viktor has discovered the joy of having his very own cozy dog bed, has started enjoying chew treats, and is slowly becoming more curious about his surroundings. He even gave his foster his first little tail wag! These might seem like small things, but for a dog like Viktor, they're pretty big milestones. The outside world is especially intimidating for Viktor right now. His foster suspects he may have had very little experience outdoors, and things like walking on a leash, wearing a collar, and potty training are all going to take patience and practice. He's also discovered that his crate can be a safe place to retreat when he needs a break, which is encouraging! Viktor has been sharing his foster home with cats and has done well so far. He's shown some curiosity toward them but has mostly been indifferent to their presence. Viktor isn't going to be the dog who runs into your arms on day one, and that's okay. He needs a patient, understanding family who will let him move at his own pace, help him build confidence, and celebrate the little victories along the way. A quieter, predictable home where he can feel safe and learn about the world without pressure would be ideal. After such an uncertain start, Viktor deserves a chance to discover all the wonderful things life has to offer. And there's something pretty special about being the person who gets to show him. Viktor is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 11/6/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 8:30am and 11:00am. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Jinx is a 11 year old border collie looking for a home where he can stay busy and challanged. He is smart, intense and has a high drive He needs a home with experience and interest in training. Percy is starting over. In a matter of minutes, Percy’s entire life was turned upside down. A kind-hearted human became concerned about Percy and his 2-year-old human brother and called for a wellness check. What authorities discovered was far worse than anyone imagined. The parents who were supposed to be caring for them had been neglecting, assaulting, and abusing them. At first, they tried to deny what was happening, but text messages and videos told the truth. Percy has a long road ahead, but thankfully, his story is taking a much happier turn. He is safe, loved, happy, and thriving in his foster home. Now he just needs the right family to help him continue healing and show him what a safe, loving life is supposed to look like. Percy would do best as the only dog in his home , but he absolutely enjoys his feline friends. He can still have nervous accidents in the house, but he's improving as he learns that his people are there to protect him and that he's finally safe. And this boy has so much joy to give! He LOVES squeaky tennis balls. He loves going for walks. Fetch is one of his favorite games. A fenced-in yard would probably be his ultimate dream. He does wonderfully on walks and even does great on a tie-out. He's been trained and listens better than many of our resident dogs! Percy doesn't need perfection. He LOVES squeaky tennis balls. He loves going for walks. Fetch is one of his favorite games. A fenced-in yard would probably be his ultimate dream. He does wonderfully on walks and even does great on a tie-out. He's been trained and listens better than many of our resident dogs! Percy doesn't need perfection. He needs patience, consistency, love, and a family willing to let him heal at his own pace. Story
Milo is an amazing family dog! He gets along with kids, cats, and other dogs. He barks at people who come up to the house, which is helpful where we live. But of course, once they get through the door, all he wants to do is get pet. He is affectionate and will follow you from room to room. You cannot pet him enough. He never tires of getting love. He’s smart and likes people to play games with him. We have a fenced in yard, so he’s used to getting a lot of outside time. He does run away if one of the kids leaves the door open, because he loves to run, but comes back in about 10 minutes. Doesn’t actually want to leave his family. He is very loyal.

Hans came into rescue as a puppy with his siblings. He will be 1 in Nov. His sibling had a DNA test done showing predominately Australian Shepherd/mini-AS with chihuahua and jack russell. He is a sweet athletic boy that craves affection. House, crate and leash trained. Completely vetted and ready for his forever home. Story
Duke is a 1 year old fluffy Austrailian Shepherd mix (we're thinking Husky), weighing about 40 lbs. He has been neutered, microchipped, and is up to date on shots. He's got a lovely fluffy tail and came to rescue from South Dakota, being part of a larger rescue effort where he primarily lived outside. Being that it was presumed that he was part Aussie, we agreed to bring him in and help him find a new home. Duke is a very loveable, cuddly pup. However, he does need time to get to know you and warm up - once you've won him over, he's all about the snuggles and play. He absolutely loves playing outside, so would very much enjoy a home where he'd have many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and be with his family. Duke has made great progress since coming to rescue; learning how to 'sit' and 'stay'. He is crate trained and is making quick progress in house training, becoming more and more reliable in his cues to let you know when he needs to go. Duke, being new to living in a home, is still learning how to politely greet people when he meets them. He likes to jump up to say hi and is working hard to remember to keep all four paws on the ground. His new family should consider obedience classes to help Duke continue his learning journey.
