Story
My name is Sylvie and I am having a fun time learning how to dog. My foster mom says I have been very brave through this process. I had a rough start to the beginning of my life and now I spend my day playing with a bunch of toys (the puzzle ones are my favorite!), sniffing smells outside, and wagging my tail to all the hugs and kisses I receive. I am such a happy girl now. I have learned that I am a ball girlie, I love love love to chase a chuck-it and then I spend a good amount of time whipping it around myself before I let my foster mom throw it for me some more. I am also very good at going potty outside, I go out every few hours AND I make it all night sleeping in my crate without having to go out.
Because of my background, some outside noises are still spooky to me, I am learning what a safe home is and what safe noises are. I get lots of treats on these special walks, lucky me! I am also very good at sitting for what I want - treats, toys, you name it! I would love a home that has treats, balls, and patience as I learn what the good life is.
From foster mom: Sylvie came to Safe Hands as a stray with a limp, x-rays show that this sweet soul sadly has a leg full of buck shot. While this doesn't deter her from quality ball time, she will often not put full weight on the impacted limb. For what she has encountered, she is the sweetest soul once she gets settled and comfortable with her surroundings. Some outside sounds are spooky and she tends to pull/run when she gets spooked. She would thrive in a home that has a fence and with someone who will continue to work with her to make things feel less spooky. Squirrels are a source of intrigue, while she will simply sit and take in the sight of deer when present.
This girl regularly asks for pets and loves to sit and simply be hugged. She is currently in a house with two dogs and two cats, she has been incredibly respectful of the dogs space and has also shown small moments of wanting to engage in play. Another medium size dog that wants to play would be such a great option for her. She has done well with the cats, largely not interested in them when she has a toy that interests her more - as always, a slow, gradual, and monitored introduction would be best here.
Sylvie is estimated to be 1 year old and 24 lbs. Since we don’t know the dog’s actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, and have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested.
