She has been through several changes but remains a loving, cuddly companion who enjoys sleeping and spending time with people she trusts. She has one eye; her age is estimated to be between 8-10. She needs an adult-only home with a patient caregiver who is home much of the day, as she struggles with being left alone. She may bark at unfamiliar noises and occasionally have accidents when alone. She is accustomed to using a doggy door. Animal Information: Pearl is an estimated 4.5 year-old Chihuahua who arrived with her 2 week old puppies. Her puppies have weaned and been adopted, now is her turn! Foster Profile: Pearl is a sweet and lovable, though she tends to be standoffish when initially meeting new people and will bark, she will come around if given some time. She loves being with her person and is happy to just curl up on her dog bed close by while you work. She is good with resident dogs, cat and ducks. She likes to play with toys and run zoomies around the house and yard. She has learned to use the dog door, but not a fan of the rain so we do make regular visits outside on rainy days. Pea​rl will need a patient family that is willing to give her space in the beginning then she is just a lovely happy girl. If you have patience and experience with shy dogs she is loyal and loving once she trusts you. Please note that she is vocal, likes to alert the houshold whenever something is going on, because of this she would not be an ideal fit for an apartment setting. We are looking for a single family residence with a securely fenced yard. She would love a canine companion to play with but with the right home would be fine without one. Athena is a 2 1/2-year-old Chihuahua weighing just 6 pounds, but don't let her tiny size fool you, this little girl has a heart big enough to fill a room! Athena has been through something no dog should have to experience. She suffered a head injury that left her with some permanent brain damage. Thankfully, she does not have seizures, but she does walk with an adorable head tilt and has a bit of a goofy, quirky way about her. Her differences only make her that much more special. Athena is good with other dogs and would love a peaceful, quiet home where she can feel safe and take her time settling in. She can be shy when she first meets someone, but once she realizes she is loved and safe, she warms up beautifully. And when Athena loves you, she loves with her whole heart. IMPORTANT: Athena needs a FEMALE-ONLY home. Because of her tiny size and delicate nature, we are also looking for a home without small children. Her ideal person will be patient, understanding, and willing to give her the time she needs to build confidence and adjust to her new surroundings. She was spotted in a known dumping area in Modesto, California, before being safely caught alongside another dog by a kind Samaritan and brought to the shelter. At first, Ginger was very nervous and shut down, but with a little patience and attention, she slowly began to warm up to staff and show her sweet personality. This lovely girl has clearly had puppies in the past, but those days are behind her now. She is friendly with people and gets along well with other dogs. Animal Information: Merv was brought into the Stanislaus Shelter as part of a hoarding case. He was living in a home with 30 dogs, and not being cared for. Despite having never left that property before, Merv was sweet with shelter and veterinary staff. We were happy to give him a ticket to a better life here in Seattle, and can't wait to get to know him Foster Profile:  Merv is getting neutered on 11/4 and will be available for adoption after recovery! Foster Merv (aka Merlin) arrived two weeks ago and is slowly settling in. He didn’t come from great beginnings and that’s pretty obvious in his mannerisms. He’s pretty fearful and will sometimes cower when his foster mom reaches down to pet him, but little by little, he’s gaining confidence and learning that he’s safe and loved.  He’s doing great going potty outside and is mostly quiet in his crate. When Merv first arrived, he had no idea how to walk on a leash. Now he gets SO excited when the leash comes out and absolutely loves his walks! Watching his confidence grow has been pretty special. Merv will need a quieter home with a patient family who will give him time to continue building trust. We think he’d really benefit from another confident dog to show him the ropes. A fenced yard would also be ideal, because while Merv now loves his walks, he has yet to decide that pooping on a leash is acceptable.  Merv is such a sweet boy, and with a little time, patience and love, we know he’s going to blossom into an absolute gem of a dog.  Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations Rabies and DPPV per AVMA standards, any indicated preventative care, heartworm test, microchip with lifetime registration, and recent health check with a veterinarian.
