Story
Meet Amaretto: A Sweet and Gentle Heart Learning to Trust Amaretto is a 2-year-old, 9 lb Chihuahua mix currently in a foster home with two adults, two small dogs, and a cat. Amaretto is a small, sweet girl who is beginning to discover how safe and comforting life in a home can be. She is shy and very unsure of the world—but every day, she’s showing just how much potential she has. Amaretto is very timid but with slow, gentle interaction, she warms up quickly and is starting to seek out her people for comfort and reassurance. Outdoors, she loves slow walks where she can sniff and explore at her own pace, taking her time learning about the world around her. She isn’t bothered by outside noises. She’s gaining confidence every day and has started going potty outside consistently with a regular routine. Amaretto is building trust quickly in her foster home. She now comes out of her crate happily to greet her foster parents, tail wagging, and spends hours curled up quietly on their laps. She enjoys being close once she feels safe. She does well with other dogs and is beginning to show interest in playing. She would likely benefit from a calm, confident dog in the home to help show her the ropes. She is also fine with cats. Amaretto has a quiet, gentle presence in the home. She finds comfort in her crate and will go in on her own to relax. She’s still sensitive to sudden movements, so a calm, predictable, adult only home will help her continue to build confidence. Amaretto is looking for a patient, understanding home that will give her the time and space she needs. In return, you’ll get to watch an incredibly special transformation—and gain a loving, loyal companion. She is also incredibly soft and loves gentle kisses. She is UTD on shots, microchipped, and spayed. Her adoption fee is $500.

Story
FOREVER HOME NEEDED (currently in foster care) Meet Winnie! She is a 1-year-old, 11 lb, Chihuahua mix. She is a quiet, sensitive little girl who’s still learning that the world can be a safe place. New environments and people make her nervous, so at first she may hide and keep her distance. With time, patience, and a calm routine, she slowly begin to feel more secure and let her sweet personality show. Winnie is very well-behaved in the home and does best in a calm, predictable environment. She will need time to build trust and will thrive with an adopter who understands shy dogs and is willing to go at her pace. Winnie will need a quiet, adult-only home with: • No kids • No apartments/busy city areas • A house with a securely fenced yard She is a flight risk, and if she gets loose, she will not come back on her own — safety is extremely important for her. She will need a patient, experienced adopter who is willing to work with her, give her space when she needs it, and celebrate the small wins. She’s not a dog who will immediately run up for affection — but for the right person, she’ll be incredibly rewarding. She is good with other dogs and would love another confident dog in the home to give her confidence. Winnie may be shy, but she is gentle, well-mannered, and deserving of a safe, loving home where she can finally relax and feel secure. With patience and consistency, she has the potential to truly blossom. Winnie is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $500.

Story
Meet Frannie! Somewhere between a California animal shelter and a cozy foster home in Seattle, a 1 year old, 13 lb chi mix named Frannie discovered something she'd never really known before: that life could be really, really good. Frannie spent nearly five months in a shelter — almost half her entire life. That kind of experience makes the most resilient little soul feel shy and nervous, so we sent her to one of our foster homes to decompress. Her foster mom writes, “When we met Frannie, she was scared and uncertain. We popped her in the car with our two small dogs (both FHDR alumni) and drove home. Only 5 minutes into the drive, Frannie’s entire demeanor changed and started giving us kisses. We were shocked at how fast she warmed up to us! “Frannie has continued to bloom in foster care. She loves to play — chasing a ball, playing tug-of-war, or running around the yard with her foster brothers. Don’t worry, Frannie loves chilling out and cuddling as well! “Frannie’s love of food makes her a dream to train — she's already making amazing strides in house training and learning commands, and she loves using her nose to solve puzzles. “It’s impossible to have a bad morning when Frannie gets the zoomies after her first potty break. She’s just SO happy for another amazing day as part of a real family. Her foster brothers adore her, and they’re all so much more active and busy with the addition of Frannie.” Frannie’s dream home includes the following: • Another active dog in the house to give her confidence and companionship. • Frannie still has puppy tendencies like mouthing, so she would do best in a home without young children. • Frannie can get spooked on walks, so we are currently taking short walks in quiet areas to build up her confidence. No city life or busy streets for her! But most of all, Frannie’s default setting is happy and relaxed. She's funny, curious, cuddly, and is absolutely brimming with love, once she knows she's safe. Frannie is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. Her adoption fee is $500.

FOREVER HOME NEEDED Meet Tuxedo! Tuxedo is a 3-year-old, 11 lb Chihuahua mix who came to us as a stray from an overcrowded shelter. He’s a gentle, sweet little soul who is still learning that the world is a safe and happy place. Tuxedo is great with other dogs and truly shines around canine friends. He’s playful, social, and gains confidence when he has another dog by his side. Because of this, we are looking for a home with a well-adjusted, confident, playful dog who can help show him the ropes and be a full-time companion. While Tuxedo is still building confidence with leash walking and navigating the outside world, he is affectionate, sweet, and eager to connect once he feels safe. In a calm, predictable environment, he opens up into a spunky, bouncy, playful little guy who loves to engage and have fun. Tuxedo would do best in a quieter home that will give him time, patience, and consistency as he continues to grow in confidence. He has not been tested with cats or children. Tuxedo is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered. His adoption fee is $500.

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED Meet Checkers! Checkers is a 1.5-year-old, 10 lb Chihuahua mix who is searching for a calm and loving home. At first glance, Checkers may seem overly energetic, but he’s simply feeling overwhelmed by the world around him. He simply needs thoughtful management and positive reinforcement to help him feel safe and confident.
