Story
Ravioli is a super cute and super friendly "low rider" we recently rescued from a shelter in Texas. He is believed to be about 2-3 years old and he weighs 25 lbs.  Ravioli is a VERY high energy little guy who loves to go, go, go.  Seriously, he doesn’t sit still! He would be great for an active family or one with older kids that can run and play with him. Although, he might wear the kids out before they wear him out! For an elderly or less active family that wants a lap dog - he is not the one for you! Ravioli did well with the other dogs in his Texas foster home, but when he first met them or when they approached him, he did initially growl at them. His Texas foster home also had cats, he did like to chase them but would take direction from his foster mom when she told him to stop. Ravioli is now in foster in NJ with another dog and doing well. This must be a proper match because not all dogs will appreciate his constant fire ball energy! Ravioli is doing great with house training and has not had an accident in his crate or in his foster home. He arrived to us with some noncontagious skin issues and is seeing our vet to treat this condition and it is already improving. Ravioli is an adorable, fun and super happy little guy!  If you are interested in meeting Ravioli, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for him by name, RAVIOLI TX!November 30, 2023, 6:51 pm

Story
Meet Lindt (as in the chocolate). She is as sweet as her name suggests.  When you look at that adorable little face and those big ears, you just melt.  Lindt (affectionately called Lindy) was found as a stray and turned into a Texas Animal Shelter by a good Samaritan to keep her safe and off of the streets. She was quickly spotted by a Northstar Pet Rescue volunteer and pulled from the shelter after her stray hold was up. Weighing around 20 lbs, we believe Lindt is a standard Dachshund/Chihuahua mix around 2 1/2 years old. Try to imagine how scary it was for little Lindt to be wandering the streets trying to survive; not knowing who to trust.  Lindt needs someone who is going to have patience and understanding and love her for who she is, which is a loving, playful little sweetheart who will greet you with a wagging tail when you come home, snuggle under a blanket with you, play fetch and give kisses, but also has a scared side that may guard her food, treats and toys. Her reactive triggers seem to be if she feels scared or over “high value“ items and she may snap. Although she gets along with some dogs, we feel she would do best to be the only dog in her home. Lindt does live with another dog with her NJ foster family, and they play and get along, however Lindt sometimes will let him know who the boss is.  If crated around other dogs she will bark if they go near her crate.  Lindt is house broken, and crate trained.  She loves to be near her person, she is a total cuddle bug. When you are sitting down, she will jump up to lay next to you or on you. She will use her nose to nudge your hand or arm to get some attention. She loves belly rubs.   Lindt would do best in a family that has older children who would understand her needs. Lindt is working on commands.  She does need additional leash training but she is a quick learner. Lindt was fine with the cats in her Texas foster home but has not lived with cats in New Jersey. Lindt can be reactive when handled sometimes, i.e., putting a coat on her, wrestling with a harness and she does not care for the Vet’s poking and prodding and will need to be muzzled.  Overall, despite her quirks, she is a funny girl that will keep you laughing! If you want to give the precious little girl her forever home and all the love and affection she deserves, apply to adopt Lindt at www.northstarpets.org and ask for LINDT TX!November 30, 2023, 6:51 pm

Fritz: DOB 3-10-2023 This gorgeous little guy is ready to go home! Fritz loves to play, gets along with other dogs and he is a social butterfly. Fritz is complete on his medical and up to date on all shots. He has been neutered, is heartworm negative and has received a ProHeart 6 which is a 6 month heart worm protection. Fritz is 10 pounds of Dachshund just looking for the right home. His adoption fee is 850.00 and transport fee is 165.00. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Ernie is a nervous shy little guy at first but lots of fun once he feels comfortable. He is a one-woman dog, not comfortable around too many people and thinks it's his job to protect the one he loves. We think he is about 4-5 years old and weighs about 15lbs- possibly doxie, chihuahua and some type of terrier mix? He loves going for walks and is energetic. He gets nervous and barks at first with new people but give him time and look past his initial fierceness and you will have a loyal little best friend for life. Please submit an application for an appointment to meet him. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 16.5 Age: 7yrs 4mths 3wks

Story
8/27/23 update on Quentin: Tiny Quentin has come a long way from the terrified dramatically screaming and snapping partially hairless little guy who first came to us, and is looking for his perfect forever home! This shy young little one still can be nervous with strangers and fast movements, but once he bonds he’s a lovable cuddler with his people. He’s gained a lot of confidence from watching the other dogs in his foster home and will definitely need a calmer home with at least one other little dog in the household to help with some of his fears. For a little guy he has a BIG mouth, and will loudly sound the alarm when he sees or hears any threats approaching your home- serial killers, delivery men, friendly neighbors: they all fall in the same category of potential danger ⚠️ as far as this tiny man is concerned. Apartments or city environment would probably freak him out a bit too much (and anger your neighbors) he’s more of a suburban kind of guy. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet little Quentin by appointment in Northern NJ Introducing Quentin! This tiny scared young man’s previous life must have been a bit of a horror movie before he found his way to a local shelter, and he came to use screaming and snapping, skinny, covered in likely contagious mange, with dewclaws curled completely around and puncturing and actually growing through his skin. There’s probably a reason why thumb-piercing isn’t a thing and it was quite painful just looking at it 🤢. Flash forward after a few weeks isolated in our care and medically he’s a new man! He’s been eating well, hair starting to grow back, nails cut and sores healed, ear infections treated, and gaining weight! Psychologically, he’s still a bit scarred from whatever occurred or didn’t occur in his past home, and he’s a very scared panicky guy but warming up and wants to be sweet. He’s only 7lbs, about 2 years old or less, and has been neutered and updated on shots. We think he’s some kind of longhair doxie/chi/spaniel mix maybe but could be any toy breed combo, and is looking for a quiet patient adult home that will let him come to them at his own pace. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Quentin in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
