Story
Meet Penelope!
Penelope is an 13-year-old, 10-pound cream dapple Dachshund who is quietly learning that the world can be a kind and gentle place. Rescued alongside 41 other Dachshunds from a home with more than 60 dogs, Penelope is beginning a brand-new chapter filled with comfort, patience, and love.
This sweet senior is a gentle soul with a heart of gold. While she can be timid and cautious in new situations, every day brings a little more confidence. Much of her time is spent relaxing in her cozy bed, but recently she has started venturing out on her own, exploring her surroundings and becoming more comfortable with the life she's discovering.
Penelope has been through a lot, including recent surgeries, and the difference in how she feels is already remarkable. Her foster has noticed much more pep in her step, and she seems significantly more comfortable and content than when she first arrived. Watching her slowly blossom has been incredibly rewarding.
Although she is still learning to trust and gain confidence, Penelope is a loving girl who genuinely wants to connect with her people. She enjoys being pet, loves gentle affection, and is beginning to seek out more interaction as she settles in. Her future family will have the privilege of watching her continue to come out of her shell and discover just how wonderful life can be.
Penelope is wonderfully easygoing. She rarely makes a sound, has no known behavioral issues, travels well in the car, and tolerates handling without complaint. She is currently using puppy pads and does a good job making her way to them. She also enjoys spending time outside and is learning that walks can be enjoyable adventures.
With no teeth, treats aren't much of a motivator, but Penelope doesn't need much to make her happy. A soft bed, a quiet home, gentle companionship, and a patient family are all she truly asks for.
Because she is still building confidence, Penelope would thrive with adopters who understand that trust takes time. She may not be the dog who rushes into your arms on day one, but for the person willing to move at her pace, the reward will be immeasurable.
After spending years as one of more than 60 dogs, Penelope is finally learning what it means to be seen, cared for, and loved as an individual. Now she's looking for a family that will continue helping her write the next chapter of her story—one filled with safety, comfort, and unconditional love.
If you have a soft spot for gentle souls and believe the best things in life are worth waiting for, Penelope may be the perfect companion for you.
