Story
Meet Dottie!! Dottie is a 1 year-old, 22 pound Dachshund mix who's ready to be the apple of your eye. Dottie was born in Trinidad and had a bit of a rough start to life before being rescued by her foster mom, who decided to bring Dottie back to New York with her. Dottie is a perfect New Yorker and is great at going on the subway, happily trotting around the NYC streets and parks. Now Dottie is looking for the perfect forever home! Dottie has perfect ears that are always at half-mast... unless she is in supersonic zoomie drive, then they are pointed up to the skies like a sail. They help her to go faster when she's running with her foster mom or friends. And Dottie loves stairs! She has so much fun with them, so if you live in a walk-up, she will love to run to your door. Dottie loves humans, big ones and kids, and also loves dogs and to chase anything you'll throw for her. Dottie is especially proud of the many outfits she wears depending on the weather, and she likes to be dressed up with a jacket or raincoat. Like any New Yorker, she's doing great at adjusting to the NYC weather! Dottie is house and crate trained, excellent on the leash, and very polite. She knows basic commands like sit, lay down, come, wait and leave it. Because she's so smart, she also understand commands like 'not yours'! Dottie is an intelligent lady, learns quickly, and listens very well. If you're ready to let this bona fide sweetheart into your life, submit an application for Dottie today! Dottie is currently being fostered in Manhattan, NY, and her adoption fee is $500. To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals. For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible. We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Story
Sunny is a Sato (street dog) that was found while on vacation in Puerto Rico in October 2023. A rescue organization took her to a farm for 2 months before she was flown to me in New York City in December. Sunny is estimated to be between 1-2 years old. She is playful, smart, energetic, and extremely affectionate! Sunny has been living in New York City for 3 months. Although she has come so far in so many things, she is miserable in an urban setting. She needs space to walk comfortably outside without constant strangers, bicycles, and dogs passing by in close proximity. Sunny needs a patient owner who is happy to work on her reactivity and provide a quieter environment for safe and happy walks. Sunny will thrive at a home with land or a yard and space outside to roam in peace. She is exceptionally loved and will be missed dearly! The most ideal situation is one where the previous owner can keep in touch with photos/ videos and possibly even visits if allowed.

Story
Eunice is a 9-year-old, 21-pound female dachshund mix from Alabama. She's a sweet and mellow pup who loves to cuddle. She doesn't bark at all, but has her own funny little opera going - it truly feels like she sings sometimes! She will whine dramatically if you try to move her when she's settled somewhere cozily. Eunice walks very well on leash, mostly potty trained outside and fully on pee pads. She's so long that she's not the best at going down a flight of stairs, but is fine going up them. She would be happy in most homes where can get snuggles. She just ignores her current small foster doggy siblings, so we think she'd be fine with dogs her size or smaller. We haven't seen her around cats.  Vaccinated for DHPP, rabies, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick and heartworm prevention, next round due May 12. To apply for Eunice, visit our website (www.waggytailrescue.org) for an adoption application. It is important to fill out an application as soon as possible for consideration, and we require a complete application for you to meet an animal. We are currently unable to respond to general email inquiries as an all-volunteer run rescue. If the dog is on our website, they are still available. Waggytail Rescue CANNOT guarantee the exact age of any adoptable dog, or final size of any of our adoptable puppies. We rely on the information provided to us by veterinarians, shelters, owner surrenders and other circumstances bringing the dog into our rescue. Adoptions: adopt@waggytailrescue.org ##2006735##

Story
4 Months & 11lbs (As of 5/2/24), Dachshund/Heeler Mix, Spayed Female  Estimated full-grown size: 35lbs Is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight-up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org. Their Foster Parent Says: "Madison is going to be tough to part with because she is quite literally the ideal puppy and dog. Madison loves to play and cuddle, and cuddle to the extreme when she buries into your chest to get extra hugs, but also knows when it is time to relax or sleep. Madison picked up on our daily routine very quickly and adapted seamlessly; from waking up to going to bed!  Madison is pretty well pad trained though at times she does get excited and in turn kick the pad from under her. As with most puppies, she does get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. She does know that deal though: get up, use the bathroom and get right back to sleep. She does have some high separation anxiety (normal for her age) and can get loud when she is first placed in the crate or you leave the room. She does calm down after about 15 minutes and then is as excited as can be when you return. She has been great with our dog and anyone who has met her; from the elderly to kids! She will be an amazing addition to a family ready to commit!" Level of dog ownership experience needed: INTERMEDIATE: As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards-based trainer from the get-go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. Energy level  MEDIUM: Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Cuddle Bug Level:  High as Willie Nelson  Potty Trained: Mostly yes; knows when and where but can miss the target on occasion Okay with Strangers:  Yep! loves to make new friends  Social with dogs? Yes. Some puppies are shy, others are bold, but all have the potential to be taught healthy socializing skills. It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. How they interact with other dogs depends largely on how their humans help them learn to.  Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision) Yes… but most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats? Yes. Almost all puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy:  Low unless you count licks and kisses  Leash Skills:  Getting the hang of it. Learning how to walk outside: just got her leash privileges!  Okay in the City:  Yes - okay to be adopted out in the city  Jumping Skills: High - but only jumps up on her people that she knows  Separation Anxiety:  MEDIUM: Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Crate Trained: Working on it; still cries to high hell for the first few minutes and then is fine in her crate!  Medical status: Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines (for dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age) How this dog ended up with Social Tees: Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee or St. Thomas. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full-grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc

It’s a huge part of raising a puppy and must be done carefully. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play:   High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, and feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp though, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Leash Manners: None — Requires training City Living:  High — Comfortable with urban environments Jumping Up:  High — Eager but needs training on greetings. Separation Anxiety: Medium  - Can be left alone but may display distress in isolation. On par for her age!  Crate Training: In Progress — Familiar with a crate but not yet comfortable being confined. Thomas.
