Ravioli is a super cute and super friendly "low rider" we recently rescued from a shelter in Texas. He is believed to be about 2-3 years old and he weighs 25 lbs.  Ravioli is a VERY high energy little guy who loves to go, go, go.  Seriously, he doesn’t sit still! He would be great for an active family or one with older kids that can run and play with him. Although, he might wear the kids out before they wear him out! For an elderly, or less active family, that wants a lap dog - he is not the one for you! Ravioli did well with the other dogs in his Texas foster home, but when he first met them or when they approached him, he did initially growl at them. His Texas foster home also had cats, he did like to chase them but would take direction from his foster mom when she told him to stop. Ravioli is now in foster in NJ with another dog and doing well. This must be a proper match because not all dogs will appreciate his constant fire ball energy! Ravioli is doing great with house training and has not had an accident in his crate or in his foster home. He arrived to us with some noncontagious skin issues and is seeing our vet to treat this condition and it is already improving. Meet Sparks, a lowrider boy recently rescued from a shelter in Texas. He is 1-2 years old and weighs 18-20 pounds. He will soon be traveling to NJ to find a forever home along with a buddy he made at the shelter - Malik TX - who you see pictured together with Sparks in one of our photos. Malik is also available for adoption through Northstar. Sparks seems to want to stay close to his human at all times - he craves affection. He likes to be with his person or people so he would do best if he was adopted into a home where someone was home with him a lot of the time. Foster mom says Sparks' best time is when she's doing yard work. Sparks lays nearby and is perfectly content. Any time he can be in her lap or on the couch with her he is happy.  Sparks has learned to sit, and seems smart. He has a sweet disposition and goes into a crate willingly if you throw a treat in first. His foster is working on leash training, too. At night, he sleeps in a small crate in foster mom's bedroom.  Sparks is good with some dogs but a meet and greet would need to be done with any other dogs in the adopter's home as he can be a bit choosy about his friends. And it would be best if Sparks was fed separately as he doesn't like to share his food. This petite cutie is Briar - she is a "Chiweenie" meaning a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix. Briar is about 3 years old and weighs under 14 pounds - perfectly size for just about any lap! NorthStar just learned that Briar has tested positive for heartworm and she will receive the appropriate treatment when she arrives in NJ. Briar is 100% house trained, not a single accident. She walks beautifully on leash & has had no food issues. At her foster home it took her an hour to forget about the other dogs and 5 days to want to snuggle with them. Briar did great with a 5 year old child this weekend at a big family party. Her goal is to get her “person” to sit so she can snuggle with you. She is just a great dog. Meet Lindt (as in the chocolate candy company) - she is also as sweet as candy!  Lindt was found as a stray and turned into a Texas Animal Shelter by a good Samaritan to keep her safe and off of the street. She was quickly spotted by a Northstar Pet Rescue volunteer and pulled from the shelter after her stray hold was up. Lindt is a fun, loving "low rider" dog weighing right under 20 pounds. We believe she is a standard Dachshund/Chihuahua mix around 2 years old. She is good with all dogs big and small, both male & female. She is even fine with the cats in her foster home. Although she has a dominant personality, she is not aggressive at all. Lindt needs to be fed separately as she does not like to share with other dogs yet she is wonderful with humans & has no problem with any person touching her food. She likes to run and play in the yard with toys and her other doggie friends although she may bark at other dogs that walk by her crate. Lindt is house broken and crate trained. She loves to be near her person, she is a total cuddle bug. When you are sitting down she will jump up on the couch to lay next to you. She loves belly rubs and head scratches. Lindt is good with all people, men, women and kids. We think she would like a home with kids and a lot of activity.  She does pull on the leash when going for walks because she wants to run. Someone who jogs daily would love her as a running buddy. She is a fun active little dog. When his owner passed away, the family brought Prince to a shelter in Texas because no one wanted. Prince is a Dachshund mix born 4/12/2014 and he weighs 14 pounds. His foster mom in Texas tells us that this boy is absolutely perfect! He will soon be heading to NJ to start the next chapter in his life.  Prince loves his crate and jumps right into it although foster mom leaves him loose in the house when she leaves. He's a very mellow fellow who would be perfect for an older adopter. He doesn't really need to be walked although he loves getting out and he walks perfectly on a leash. Prince hasn't been around small children but I am sure he would be fine. He doesn't jump, he doesn't run. Prince only barks when he is trying to get my attention.
