Story
Anny is a tricolor purebred Dachshund who was released to NorthStar Pet Rescue by her owner who was a breeder. She had her last litter of pups on June 26th - all of her pups have been placed in loving homes. Now the hope is that Anny, who has a quirky personality, can also find a permanent placement.  Anny makes friends on her own terms. When she sees people, she often runs and hides. Although she is not overly affectionate at first, once she knows and accepts you then she will show you her love. She is looking for an adults-only home and will not be placed in a home with children. Anny was born on 12/10/2019 and weighs 14.5 pounds. If you are interested in adopting Anny and giving a loving forever home, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to ask for her by name - VERA'S ANNY DOXI TX!September 17, 2024, 1:14 pm

Story
Rosa was surrendered to rescue when her owner, who had her since she was a puppy, could no longer care for her. She gets along with the other dogs in her foster home but doesn’t really care to interact with them. She sleeps most of the time and is quiet, she almost never barks. Rosa weighs around 8.4 pounds and her birthday is 8/22/2011. She has one tooth in the front and a few more in the back (which is why she eats only soft food). Her tongue hangs out of the side of her mouth most of the time which adds to her specialness. Rosa is a very sweet, loveable little ol’ gal. Rosa takes medicine for hair loss. Most of her hair has grown back since coming into rescue in July. She takes Thyro-tabs for the hair loss. Rosa will use a potty pad during the day while foster mom is at work. She eats Beneful Incredibites.  Rosa is a sweet little lap dog - if you'd like to give her a retirement home, please complete an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for her by name!September 17, 2024, 1:14 pm

Story
Meet Rebel, the most terrified of the group of 10 little ones we took in from a home that ended up with too many dogs due to lack of spay/neuter. So of course she’s our favorite 😍. She peed all over the aco that removed her from the home and peed and pooped all over us the day we got her. We do love a good feral project dog. You can see her progress over the past 2 weeks as you swipe through her pics, from totally shut down and feral, avoiding eye contact, trying to make herself invisible, and panicking and running from us, to actually starting to come up and greet us happily and seek out petting! She’s not even 3 years old, still a baby and her inner puppy energy comes out more and more each day. The has the perfect short long body of a standard wirehaired doxie but with an almost human-like face stuck onto her. She was a chunky 21lbs and has lost a couple already but should be more like 17 probably. She had never been to a vet or left the only home she ever knew before, and will panic and likely regress at first moving to another home but we can see what a sweet special girl she has the potential to be with the right person. She loves and takes comfort from other dogs and will need a calmer adult home, preferably just one or 2 people, and at least one other dog friend she can learn from and follow. She’s never been walked on a leash or experienced so many normal dog things, but she’s been learning to follow the other dogs out into a fenced yard to go to the bathroom and also uses wee wee pads. She has a shorter wiry coat than most of the others from her group and is not a non-shedding breed that requires grooming more than a good brushing every now and then- gotta love that scruffy wash and wear coat! Email njwoof@cs.com if you think your home might be a good fit for our special shy girl Rebel. She’s been spayed, updated on shots, and is fostered in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Lots of new arrivals this week already! 😩 First up, meet Midnight! This sweet senior looks like a giant doxie, and we mean GIANT! She’s a whopping 53lbs right now, though she needs to lose at least 10. She’s a gentle cuddly 9 year old couch potato, maybe doxie mix with basset and lab? 🤷‍♀️ or corgi? She has the perfect long body and short twisty little legs we doxie addicts adore and is always staring up at you smiling, an oversized lapdog. She’s always lived with other dogs and is just an all around sweet soul. Please email njwoof@cs.com to meet Midnight in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Story
Have you met Fred? His owner is dead. 😔 He was never well-socialized from what his owner’s relatives said. But was devoted to his master and slept in his bed. 🛏️ He was scared and defensive and at first meeting strangers filled him with dread. 😱 But he is very food motivated and warms up as soon as he’s fed. 🍱 🍦 🍗 Fred has long lumpy body that looks like a loaf of bread, 🍞 Amazing big ears and a comically disproportionately tiny head. He had not been to a vet in a decade and needed a dental and some meds, 💊 He is dangerously overweight from being overfed. But at least he was already neutered and never bred. He’s an 11 year old chiweenie- that’s doxie/chi mix and not a purebred. We were warned he might be more of a jerky little butthead, But he’s actually just a scared wimpy guy, and we are happy we were misled. He’s currently peacefully living with other small calm dogs, there’s been no bloodshed. We don’t normally write poetry, but a surprising number of things rhyme with Fred 🤷‍♀️ So we are hopeful our very bad literary work will help his story stick in your head. Email njwoof@cs.com to come to Northern NJ and meet our cute little redhead! Story
Meet Cookie Cow! She is an absolute sweetheart and LOVES her treats. She is a wonderful mix - likely part terrier, dachshund , and some other small breeds. She is 6 years young and ready to find her forever family. She is a long, low riding 17 lbs - her weight is a little deceptive since she appears smaller! She is crate trained and housebroken. (Although remember ALL dogs do need a little time to transition to a new home!) Interested in becoming a forever home for this beautiful creature? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws . We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and appreciate you working with us.For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $525. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!
