Story
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 2-year-old male purebred Dachshund, about 17 pounds. Morty is a handsome little piebald dachshund who came to Smidget with his mom (Smidget Emma), after his owner passed away. He has an outgoing personality, a lot of energy, and his favorite place to be is on your lap. Despite all of the changes he's faced in his short life, this resilient pup is living his best life! He has been incredibly well behaved in his foster home, including two cats and two other small dogs. He walked in like he's lived here his whole life! Mortimer has a basic foundation for obedience and house training. He already knows sit and is learning better manners on leash. We are working on new skills almost daily, since he is so eager to please. Like every dog, he had a few potty accidents when he was learning the layout of the home, but he is getting better every day. He's sleeping a full night in his kennel but struggles a little when kenneling in daytime hours. He would do best in an active home with a fenced yard, that offers him outlets for his energy. Mortimer loves to play - his favorites have been frisbees and tennis balls. He is already trying to snatch frisbees out of the air! Do not let his semi-short stature fool you - he is extremely athletic and capable of jumping onto beds, couches, into cars, and onto laps. He is VERY fast and will need ongoing work on his recall. He hasn't shown any food aggression during playtime or dinner time with two other small dogs. He is very cuddly and cozy; I've panicked several times when I couldn't find him because he was completely wrapped himself up in a blanket. The only behavior that is being actively addressed is his protective streak. He seems to be moderately reactive to new people and will guard his human. Morty has had some issues with jumping up and being mouthy and nipping when he meets new people. BUT, once he knows you, he LOVES you. His protective Doxie streak requires proper introductions and correction. That said, Mortimer is eager to please/meet new people and is getting better at recognizing social cues from his foster mom and other dogs. He is extremely trainable and very food motivated. We know he will chase a cat and he is not the best candidate for homes with children. To request an adoption application, email smidgetrescue@hotmail.com Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend or through scheduled meet and greet after application review. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and all dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit.

Story
General about info for the dogs currently listed in this group: Permanent, Loving Homes Needed for Senior Rescue Dogs Over many years, I have monitored and tried to help this particular group of dogs. These dogs have been loved, responsibly vetted, and cared for throughout their lives, though not in an ideal overall situation. They were in a somewhat hoarding situation… not the typical not cared for at all one, but still applies. They were kept clean and fed and I paid for most of their vet care along the way, but their owner would not surrender them until now. Due to this: Adoption fees are all $300, but will be returned once proof of dental is given. I am finally allowed to find them homes, and cannot provide the level of long-term veterinary care these dogs deserve — including dental work, senior monitoring, and ongoing medical needs, thus, I am seeking permanent, stable homes where their remaining years can be lived with comfort, dignity, and consistency. What I am looking for • A calm, stable home • Someone experienced with senior dogs • Financial ability to provide ongoing veterinary and dental care • A commitment to keep them for life — no rehoming • Patience, kindness, and realistic expectations These dogs are older (aged 8 to 12 years old), and while many are still active, affectionate, and content, they will require the kind of care someone prepared for senior dogs can provide. What I will provide Full transparency about age, temperament, and medical needs Important medical history is known I do not have every vaccine record/etc but they are all spayed/ neutered, microchipped, and current on rabies vaccines Time for proper introductions Careful, thoughtful placement — this will not be rushed I am open to placing individual dogs or compatible pairs, and I will work closely with the right people to ensure a good match. If you are genuinely experienced with senior dogs and are prepared — financially and emotionally— to care for one for the rest of their life, please reach out by private message and tell me about yourself, your home, and your experience. These dogs deserve peace, safety, and love for the remainder of their lives. Thank you for reading with compassion. Hello, My name is Aurora. I am about 9 years old, and was born 10/7/2017. I am fully vetted, and in great health. First of all, please know I am WAY cuter than my pictures do justice. I am a little wiggle butt, and my foster parents have had trouble getting a good picture of me. Also, the white on my face makes me look way older than I act. It has progressed since I was a baby, but I really dont act like an old lady! My only issue is that I am desperate need of a dental cleaning. My teeth are better than my sister from the same litter, who just found a home, but she had to have almost all of her teeth removed. I will most likely need at least a good portion of mine removed as well. The good news is that my shining personality will make up for this slight issue. I am beyond happy to do whatever you do, as long as you give me a chance to get to know you. My dog mommy, whom I was around for the 1st year of my life, and thus learned a lot from her, was super nervous natured. I am not like her often, except at first in new situations. I will need probably about 2 weeks to settle in before you try to take me on walks outside or anything similar. I do use potty pads very well, though so that makes this transition time easier. I am silly with a lot of energy. I do like food, but not super food obsessed. I love cats and other small dogs. I will NOT do well around children unless they are older and super patient and super calm with me. I am FULLY vetted: fixed, 3 year rabies, DDAVP, microchip, heartworm tested negative multiple times, including recently, and current on heartworm and flea preventative. My stuff comes with me (crate, bed, toys, hw flea prev for 3-6 months depending on where I am in between vet visits). Still needed: dental, and lepto if you plan on taking me outside in any possible standing water your yard or other places. This wasnt a thing in Houston, but apparently is here.
