Hello! I'm a sweet and friendly companion who can be a little shy at first, especially around strangers. But offer me some delightful treats, and we'll quickly become the best of friends. I have a special fondness for females, and while I'm a bit wary around males, with time and patience, I can warm up to them too. I haven't had the chance to meet children under 13, but I'm sure I'd be okay with them as long as they are gentle with me. I'm quite easy to handle, lift, and carry, making me an ideal cuddle buddy. I get along well with most dogs, but I can feel a bit overwhelmed by overly hyper dogs. If a dog displays aggression, I won't back down and might assert myself, so a slow and careful introduction to other dogs is important. Being the center of attention is what I thrive on—I adore people! However, if there's another dog in the house, I might get a tad jealous. I have a moderate energy level, enjoying walks while being calm and composed indoors. I'm well-behaved during walks, especially in quiet areas, but I can get frightened by loud noises and busy streets. I'm not possessive of resources when it comes to people, but I may growl if another dog is around me. Due to my strong attachment to people, I could experience some separation anxiety down the road. I only bark when I need to communicate something important. I'm crate trained and generally do well with potty training, both indoors and outdoors. However, I do struggle a bit with car sickness, particularly on longer rides. Although I might throw up on journeys exceeding 20 minutes, I do know how to get off the car, even though getting in is a bit unfamiliar to me. Meet Pinto! He's an incredibly sweet and loving boy who's only 2 years old despite the premature white fur on his face might suggest! Pinto's about 15 pounds. He was given up when his owner could no longer care for him, so he's used to being in a home and has good house manners. We believe he's house trained. Meet Slinky! Attention low-rider lovers! This girl found her way to ACS and we can't believe it! She is so docile and friendly. Slinky is around 7 years old and about 23 pounds, but she should lose a few pounds to be easier on her long back. Animal Profile: NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS Dahlia is an estimated 6-month-old 20 lb mixed breed who came to the shelter along with her brother Duncan and was assessed to be sweet and friendly with people and dogs. She will be joining us from Caddo Parish shelter arriving to Seattle on 8/8/23. We will share more info once we get to know her in foster care.   Foster Update:  6 month old Dahlia has been doing great, she's a wiggly bundle of love.  Super affectionate, curious, and responsive when we say No. We've only heard her bark once this past week (when a raccoon was at our window) Pretty typical puppy energy, maybe even a bit calmer. She gets spurts of wanting to play with us, a toy, or our dog, but is also great at resting her crate. (She loves all kinds of toys!) We haven't had a problem leaving Dahlia alone and she's nearly potty trained - she only had one accident in the house when we didn't let her outside right after crate time.   Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations per AVMA standards, microchip, negative heartworm test if over 6 months, and health certificate. Your donation may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. Animal Profile: Duncan is an estimated 8-month-old 17 lb mixed breed who came to the shelter along with his sister Dahlia and was assessed to be sweet and friendly with people and dogs. He joined us in Seattle from Caddo Parish shelter on 8/8. We will share more info once we get to know him in foster care.   Foster Update: 8/31-  Duncan, 6 months, is a bundle of energy and cuddles. He is a perfect young dog waiting for his forever home with a family that will spend a little time training him. He rarely barks, only when excited. No accidents since he has settled in. He can be left alone in his crate without problems and sleeps in his crate all night without a peep. He has puppy energy so would love an active home.  He also loves his toys. After 7pm, he just wants to pass out on your lap for the night. He is settling in beautifully.  He just wants to cuddle and play! He will lick your face whether you want it or not. He loves trying to play with our other dog, a senior female. But she isn't very into it. I think he would love to have a playmate but could be a solo dog too. He is great in the crate - no problems silently hanging in there when we are gone or during the night.  He is essentially house trained but had one accident (we are getting used to his signs to tell us he needs to go outside). But once we let him out, he is very quick! He needs some training on walking on a leash. He doesn't pull or anything, just tries to trip you. He wants to say hi to other dogs on walks,, and loves all toys! .
