Story
He’s a goofy, lovable 60-pound ham who charges into every day with confidence, charm, and just the right amount of chaos. He may be blind, but you’d never know it. Balin is looking for a home without small dogs or cats—he’s got a BIG personality and sometimes forgets just how big he is. He might be able to live with another dog, but it would need to be a calm, very patient buddy who can handle his enthusiastic greetings. Slow, structured introductions are a must.

Story
If you've followed Moxie's journey, you know she's already overcome incredible odds. After veterinarians discovered a heart murmur, a cardiology workup at Iowa State University revealed five severe congenital heart defects. Thanks to an advanced balloon valvuloplasty performed by the specialists at Iowa State, Moxie's outlook is much brighter. While she'll always have heart disease, she's ready to find a family who will love her for every step of her journey. Now, Moxie is ready for the next chapter: finding a family to love her. Here's what her future looks like: • Twice-daily heart medication. • A follow-up appointment with her veterinary cardiologist in September 2026 (covered by Animal Lifeline of Iowa), followed by lifelong cardiology monitoring as recommended by her specialists. • Reasonable exercise restrictions. She can still enjoy walks, playtime, and being part of the family, but she'll need to avoid extreme exertion. • While her surgery greatly improved her prognosis, Moxie still has congenital heart disease and is expected to have a shorter lifespan than a typical dog. What hasn't changed? Moxie is still a happy, playful puppy who doesn't let her diagnosis define her. She loves people, enjoys all the puppy adventures she can safely have, and deserves a home where she'll be cherished for exactly who she is. We're looking for a family committed to providing Moxie with specialized lifelong cardiac care and the unconditional love she deserves. If you're ready to open your heart to a truly extraordinary dog, apply to adopt Moxie today and help write the happiest chapter of her story.

Story
Marley came to us as a puppy. Through no fault of her own, we can not give her the attention that her growing 1 year old mind needs. She is too sweet and loving to be getting in trouble for being a puppy. We're sad to be in this position, but she will brighten someone else's world.

HOW TO ADOPT: This animal is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this animal, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.---- Loves to learn and knows how to sit - especially if you have treats! - May prefer to explore and do his own thing here in the shelter, but will likely open up more once he's in a loving home environment and has had time to decompress - Would benefit from a harness on his world explorations- Ready and willing to meet other like-minded dog friends The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Brown Secondary Color: White Weight: 38.5 Age: 2yrs 0mths 3wks
