Story
Intake date - 20 September 2020Approximate Birth Date - 5 August 2019Black and white female border collie********PUPDATE 21 December 2022 - Pan has changed SO MUCH since intake - as you`d expect with a long term stay - and would really thrive in a home of her own. Pan loves the company of other stable dogs, and is devoted and affectionate to humans who are willing to give her space and allow Pan to figure them out and build trust.******Pan will need an experienced home, and other dog(s) to help her become more confident and trusting of strangers.Pan has the genetic ability to be and do nearly anything a human partner could possibly want, but her upbringing and lack of training has left holes that will need to be filled. From everything we can see, the journey will be entirely worth it. Pan recently met a stranger (to her) and was well behaved, engaging, and allowed handling (including feet!).*****Meet Pan! Pan is going to need a patient and confident home with another confident dog. She was not raised in an environment which allowed her to gain self confidence or courage. Pan has been in our care only a few days but has already made tremendous progress. Pan is great with other dogs but is currently reactive and fearful of other people. She will be going through some training here until we feel she is ready for, (and we find her) the perfect forever home.Pan is located in Maryland, and weighs appx 45 lbs.

Story
This golden goofball is Chip—a big, bouncy 3-year-old mixed-breed mystery mutt who’s got the heart of a pup and the face of your favorite grandpa. Found as a stray in Georgia, Chip showed up skinny, heartworm positive, and down on his luck. But don’t worry—this comeback king got the royal treatment, beat heartworms like a champ, and is now living his best life up north while he searches for his forever couch (ahem, we mean home). He’s a charming guy with luscious golden locks, soulful eyes, and a permanent “I just woke up from a nap” expression. Despite the distinguished mug, Chip's energy is all zoomies, tail wags, and belly flops.Chip is a social butterfly when it comes to meeting other dogs out and about—he enjoys having doggie friends to hang with—but he’d prefer to be the only animal in his home. He’s the kind of pup who’ll make you laugh with his goofy antics, ridiculous sleeping positions, and dramatic sighs when he doesn’t get his way. Now, full transparency—Chip isn’t a huge fan of sharing his food or treats. Everything else? No problem! But when it comes to snack time, he prefers a little personal space. We totally get it (who doesn’t get hangry?), and we’re working with him on polite mealtime manners. Thanks to a kind sponsor from our community, Chip's adoption fee is already paid. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! Story
Meet Oatie! 🐾☀️Our happy-go-lucky 3-year-old speed racer with a heart full of sunshine!Oatie got his name after we found him curled up in a pile of hay in the middle of a field. It was clear he’d been dumped, but you’d never guess that from his joyful spirit. This little guy greets every day like it’s the best day ever—full of zoomies, wiggles, and pure happiness.Oatie recently had knee surgery and is currently recovering. Anyone looking to adopt him will need to provide a small, quiet space where he can rest away from other animals and people for a safe, speedy recovery. He must also remain on leash at all times to help him stay calm and protect his healing knee.He does great with other dogs who can match his playful, fast-paced style, and he’d love a home with kids 12+ who can run, play, and keep up with him once he’s fully recovered. If you’re looking for a fun, upbeat companion who brings joy everywhere he goes, Oatie might be your perfect match! 💛Oatie's adoption fee is $150, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: https://www.acskc.org/adopt-1Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! Story
Meet Sage — Your 2026 Adventure BuddySage is a 1‑year‑old Black Mouth Curr mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She was originally adopted from us as a puppy, but life changed for her family and—through no fault of her own—she found her way back to us. Now she’s hoping her second chance is the one that sticks. This girl is every bit as fun and goofy as her photos suggest, but don’t let the silliness fool you—Sage is smart. Really smart. If you’re looking for a running partner, a future sports dog, or a companion who thrives on activity and learning, Sage might just be your perfect match. She came to us from Louisiana as a stray puppy alongside her siblings, and she’s grown into a bright, eager, energetic young dog who’s ready to take on the world. What she needs now is someone stable, patient, and excited to help her channel all that enthusiasm into something amazing. Will 2026 be the Year of Sage? She sure hopes so.Sage's adoption fee is $125, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption.
