My Shadow follows me wherever I go!! That is a little disconcerting, however.... I move fast to see if he can keep up with me :) It is fun to try to outsmart him and it does help me wear me out :) I love me some playtime! Toys, ropes, tug of war time and running are keeping me active to fulfill my Whippet nature and my LAB nature too!! Looky at my face and tell me you don't want to share your WHOLE life with me :) I am waiting!!! Looking for a wonderful dog?? Great with all people big and small ;) And other playful dogs... Old Yeller, is that a new trend? Old stuff made NEW?? Cause I am NOT old, although I am Yeller, a really pretty YELLER COLOR!!! :) I am a Yeller Chesapeake bay retriever/ YELLER lab mix, it is important for my new family to know about the Chesapeake bay breed. We can be very stubborn, smart and independent and I really like to be in charge, so my new family needs to be strong leaders too. I am a handsome bloke, with swirls of yellow and white all through my coat. I am very smart and very sweet. I can from a high kill shelter with no hope- Now I EXUDE hope!! And LOVE!!! I WAS heartworm positive but have already finished the treatment and am NEGATIVE and just stay on prevention for the rest of my life. I am good with other dogs, but really would be best in an only dog home, cause I want all the attention :) I LOVE MY people and I tend to take "control" of my home so have to have a couple of things... 1) STRONG leadership owner, 2) I have to have an owner who will be wiling to not let me meet everyone who visits.. I want to protect my home a little too much... and 3) I have to stay in the San Antonio/TX area so my rescue friends can keep close tabs on me and how i am doing :) I have been running and playing since I am safe, but really am a couch potato. Haku means "pure" in Japanese! I was named for my pure, passionate and overwhelming love for everyone around me! I came to the rescue when my dad was stationed in Japan and heartbroken that he couldn't take me with him. I've missed him so much ever since! Everyday I do the things I did with him with other dogs so I can try and remember what it felt like to be with him! But it's just not the same. So, I'm hoping a new family can come scoop me up and show me what it feels like to be a part of a home and family again! I am good with other dogs, I love playing chase with them or tugging on chew toys. I'll need a happy and active home so that my life will be full of love and fun! I am a bit anxious and nervous around new people, and people in general! Slow introductions, a safe space I can retreat to like a crate and not forcing me into spaces with tons of people will help me be myself all the time! Yeah… that! I mean… look at that gaze. There is NOTHING there. Processing? Minimal. Vibes? Chaotic. To be clear: Yeager is A LOT. Not “a little training needed.” Not “puppy energy.” We’re talking full-time project dog. ✔️ Dog social… selectively (great with females & smaller/meduim males) ✔️ Has done well with cats and older kids ✔️ Extremely happy, confident, and always ready to GO ⚠️ Reality check: • Potty trained… but won’t tell you and will absolutely have accidents • Will mark indoors • Does not understand (or respect) human correction • Learns patterns quickly… then uses that knowledge against you • Will outmaneuver your routine (especially when food is involved) • Rarely settles — especially around other animals (play is his full-time job) • Takes correction from other dogs… then forgets it happened 3 minutes later • Destroys beds, feeders, and anything not built for chaos • Eats fast, then immediately wants to sprint/jump (deep-chested breed awareness REQUIRED) Training status: He’s not untrainable, but he is not intuitive. He will require someone experienced, structured, and committed to ongoing training. This is not a “figure it out as you go” dog. Ideal home (non-negotiable): Experienced, active, consistent human(s) who will not give up when he inevitably tests every boundary you set. Doberman or working-breed experience strongly preferred. Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Gemma, or as my foster family likes to call me, Gemma Dean String Bean. As soon as I got out to the country in wide open spaces and met my fur foster siblings (dogs), my personality really started to bloom and shine. I am shy with fur siblings at first but once I warm up to them you can’t get me to stop playing. I have endless energy. I would be best in a forever home that has a fur sibling for me to play and snuggle with. While I warm up to other dogs right away, I take a little longer with humans but don’t worry, I do warm up pretty fast and then you won’t be able to get me to stop wanting to play and snuggle with you, too. In this hot Texas summer I love to play in the water but be sure to let me go potty before I go inside because I’m still learning that I should only potty outside. I haven’t figured out how to play fetch yet but I love a good chew toy and so far, I am very good at chewing!! )I am food motivated with obedience training. Finally, my foster family has some turkeys that I haven’t shown I care about but I do slightly lose my mind when I see Bambi (as in a REAL DEER!!) I would love to meet you and show you that I am the missing puzzle piece for your family. I can’t wait to hear from you! BUT HURRY!1 I am a GEMma and am ready!!
