Story
We've had Max for 11 years. He has separation anxiety and we are both full-time teachers gone during the day. Max would thrive in a home where he has a companion most of the day with him. He does not get along well with other dogs. Max is a sweet dog and would be your best pal if you are home often.

Story
Yuna's a very cuddly and obedient dog. When I'm at home I can always find her either on my bed, her bed, or curled up right against my legs wherever I am sitting. She understands commands very well. She is well trained on walks and I often walk her off leash. Sometimes she'll start wandering around, but she always returns when I call her. My friends are always marveled by how well she follows me around and listens to me. She sleeps most of the day but does enjoy playing with pull toys! She is quite an anxious dog. She shakes often, especially if she wants attention She's not great on car rides nor around large groups of people, which is where her anxiety is exhibited the most. She's old and slow with arthritis in her back legs. She's got lots of fatty lumps on her body (no cancer). With that being said, she doesn't really have any vet needs nor meds. Good with kids and other animals!I'm only rehoming her because I'm moving into my church and cannot take her with. She is a lovely dog.

Story
Hi, I’m Toby—and my motto is: I can’t see you, but I love you. I’m a 7–8 year old, 33 lb. (mini) Border Collie mix (maybe Beagle??) with a big heart and a lot of resilience. I was found on MLK Blvd in Portland, blind, underweight and struggling. Not long after, I had to have my eyes removed due to painful glaucoma. But I’ve healed well, and I’m learning how to navigate the world in my own way. I’m incredibly smart. I’ve already mapped out my foster home, I come when called (at home), and I sit like a pro—especially if treats are involved. I’m eager to learn and very motivated by food and praise. I just need someone patient to help me build confidence and boundaries. I love people. I bond quickly, greet you with full-body wiggles, and want to be near my humans (but I’m not underfoot all the time). At home, I’m playful, affectionate, and happiest when I’m part of the action. Outside can still be scary for me. Since I can’t see, I react to sounds like barking dogs or nearby people—it can feel overwhelming. I’ll need an understanding adopter, ideally someone with blind dog experience, who can help me feel safe and supported. I may also do well with a calm, confident dog friend to help guide me. I enjoy tug toys, bones, Kongs, and cozy naps (especially on the couch). I sleep in my own bed at night and take daily meds to help with this new life. What I need most is someone patient, kind, and willing to see my potential. Because even though I can’t see you… I will love you with everything I have.

Story
I’m a 7-year-old black shepherd, about 70 pounds of loyal, loving, slightly goofy best friend. I used to have my person—my whole world—but they passed away recently, and I’ve been trying to figure things out ever since. Right now, I spend most of my days alone, with kind people stopping by to feed me twice a day… but it’s not the same. I miss having my human. I miss being part of a home. I’ll be honest with you—I’ve gotten a little lonely. So lonely that my skin has started to show it. It’s not who I really am, just what happens when a dog who loves connection doesn’t get enough of it. Because here’s the real me: I’m affectionate, confident, and playful. I LOVE fetch—like, throw-the-ball-again-no-seriously-again level love. I’m also a big fan of snuggling, especially if it means I get to sleep on the bed next to you. That’s where I feel safe. I’m good with kids and other dogs—sometimes a little aloof at first, but friendly once I warm up. I really enjoy having other dogs around to play with. I do bark at dogs through the window (hey, I’ve got to keep an eye on things), but I’m much happier actually meeting them and making friends. I’ve got good house manners, use a dog door, and I’m comfortable with stairs and car rides. What I really need is a fenced yard to run in, someone to throw the ball for me, and—most importantly—a home where I’m not alone all the time. I don’t need perfect. I just need present. Right now, the people caring for me are worried about my future. They don’t want to lose me, but they also know this isn’t the life I deserve. I’m not ready to give up—I just need someone to see me and say, “Come on, Cody. Let’s go home.” If you’ve got room in your life for a loyal companion who just wants to love and be loved… I’m right here.

Story
Hi, I’m Louise.I’m a 12-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix, about 40 pounds, and I’m looking for a quieter place to spend my golden years. I’ve lived a full life with dogs, cats, and kids, but these days I’ve realized I’d really prefer a calm home without young children running around. I’m a classic heeler at heart, and with a busy 5-year-old in my current home, I’ve started trying to “herd” him by barking and getting a little too bossy. My family loves me enough to know I’d be happier somewhere more peaceful.I’m independent, protective, and pretty quiet overall — unless someone comes to the door. Then I’ll let you know about it. After that, I settle back down and go right back to relaxing on my dog bed.I still get around great for a senior girl. I can climb stairs, hop into the car, and I enjoy leisurely walks, hikes, and a good game of fetch. I walk nicely on a leash and know commands like sit, stay, and lay down. I spend my time indoors with free roam of the house and do just fine being left alone for 5–6 hours at a time.I can be nervous around other dogs and tend to bark or lunge when I see them on walks, so I’d do best with someone who understands heelers and can help me feel secure. Cats are also pretty tempting to chase, so a cat-free home would probably be best. One important thing about me: I LOVE food. Truly. If there’s food left out, I will consider it a gift meant for me. I am on a low-fat diet. What I really want is simple — a calm home, steady routine, soft bed, and someone to enjoy peaceful walks and quiet companionship with. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow to share your slower days, I might be your girl.

Story
Hi, I’m Jackson! Nice to meet you! I’m an 11-year-old Border Collie mix with energy to play and have a heart full of loyalty. I weigh about 48 pounds and have the agility and stamina to run, play, and explore. I used to live on a quiet rural property with the best human dad, where we had all the space in the world. I have lots of energy and need daily exercise, whether that’s structured walks, running in a safely fenced yard, or other activities that help me burn off both physical and mental energy. When I don’t get enough outlets, my anxiety can increase. With patience, reassurance, and a calm environment, (including anxiety medication!) I do best. On walks, I may get overexcited or reactive when I see other dogs, deer, or unexpected things. Because of this, I’m much happier in a quiet, country environment where I don’t need to be on leash as often. In safe, off-leash areas, I relax, decompress, and can share space nicely with other dogs. My recall is strong, and I reliably come back to my person. I’m very people-focused and love being close to my humans. I get excited to see kids, but because of my strength, energy, and anxiety, I would do best in a home without small children. My human loves me very much, but can no longer give me the space and exercise that help me feel calm and confident. My ideal home is a quiet, rural setting or peaceful countryside property with one or two adults who understand anxiety and want a deeply loyal companion. I’d thrive as the only pet, where I can soak up all the love, constantly be by my person's side and feel secure again. I’ve been at SDRO for a long time and would love to find my second lease on life. Do I sound like a good match for you? If so please apply.
