Story
Dodi is a petite little pittie who sweet, silly and smart. She is young and energetic. She is leash reactive toward other dogs, but not aggressive. Generally she walks well on a leash, unless she sees another dog. She has no bite history at all. I have had her for a little over a year and have worked very hard with her on her reactivity. Unfortunately, my health circumstances have changed and I am unable to provide her the time and effort this sweet girl needs. She is good with other dogs that she knows, and currently lives and gets along well with a senior golden.

Story
Hi there! I’m Boo — your future best friend with a shiny black coat and an even shinier heart. I’m an 8-year-old black Lab lady weighing in at about 75 pounds of love and loyalty. I’ve grown up around kids and other dogs, so I understand family life. I’m friendly with strangers and always happy to greet new people with a wagging tail. I spend most of my time inside the house, either running free or hanging out in a fenced yard when the weather is nice. At night, I’m perfectly content sleeping on my cozy blanket in the living room — I don’t need anything fancy, just a spot that feels like home. I’m house trained, leash trained, and I ride nicely in the car (windows down is my favorite!). If you need to run errands or head to work, I can handle being alone for about five hours like a champ. I enjoy my routine and settle in well. I’ll be honest — I do like my food and prefer not to share it. A girl has to have some boundaries, right? But outside of mealtime, I’m affectionate, sweet, and love being near my people. My family loves me very much, and this decision is heartbreaking. Their son has been diagnosed with asthma and a severe dog allergy, so they need a pet-free home for his health. They want me safe, loved, and happy — and so do I. My ideal home? Someone kind and loving who will give me snuggles, take me on regular walks, and let me be part of the family. I’m past the puppy chaos stage but still have plenty of happy tail wags left to give. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a gentle heart, I’m your girl.

Story
Hi there, I’m Jethro, a brown Doberman Pinscher mix with a big heart. I’m 9 years old, but don’t let that fool you—I still love my walks, exploring the neighborhood, and soaking up attention. I’m polite, well-mannered, and happiest when I’m spending time with my people. I’m house trained, leash trained, and a pro traveler. Car rides used to be a big part of my life, and I ride quietly like a gentleman. I’ll admit I can get a bit worked up when I see other dogs and may bark or pull on the leash, but once I’m back with my person, I settle right in. Around humans, I’m calm, affectionate, and always ready for a treat. I spent my whole life alongside my best buddy, Drake. We grew up together, and losing him over the rainbow bridge has been very hard for me. I’m also grieving the loss of my human mom, who passed away earlier this year. I miss them both deeply, but I still have so much love left to give and am ready to form a new bond with someone special. What I’m looking for now is a safe, cozy home with a patient, loving person who understands that I’m adjusting to big changes. In return, you’ll get a loyal, gentle companion who will gladly walk by your side and be there for you every day. If you’ve been looking for a big-hearted, devoted gentleman to share your life with, I just might be your guy.

Story
Hi, I’m Jackson! Nice to meet you! I’m an 11-year-old Border Collie/Greyhound mix, but I still play like a puppy and have a heart full of loyalty. I weigh about 48 pounds and have the agility and stamina to run, play, and explore. I used to live on a quiet rural property with the best human dad, where we had all the space in the world. After he passed away, life changed. I moved into town with my other human, and while we love each other deeply, the busy streets and close neighbors have been hard on both of us. I have lots of energy and need daily exercise, whether that’s structured walks, running in a safely fenced yard, or other activities that help me burn off both physical and mental energy. When I don’t get enough outlets, my anxiety can increase. I am very afraid of loud noises, and since losing my human dad I’ve developed anxiety, especially at night. Sometimes this makes it hard for me to settle, and I may try to dig in the corner of a room when I’m feeling overwhelmed. With patience, reassurance, and a calm environment, (including anxiety medication!) I do best. On walks, I get overexcited or reactive when I see other dogs, deer, or unexpected things — I bark, pull on the leash and lunge, or try to chase. Because of this, I’m much happier in a quiet, country environment where I don’t need to be on leash as often. In safe, off-leash areas, I relax, decompress, and can share space nicely with other dogs. The good news is my recall is strong, and I reliably come back to my person. I’m very people-focused and love being close to my humans. I get excited to see kids, but because of my strength, energy, and anxiety, I would do best in a home without small children. My human loves me very much, but can no longer give me the space and exercise that help me feel calm and confident. My ideal home is a quiet, rural setting or peaceful countryside property with one or two adults who understand anxiety and want a deeply loyal companion. I’d thrive as the only pet, where I can soak up all the love, constantly be by my person's side and feel secure again. Does this sound like the right match? Please apply! I’ve been at SDRO for a long time and would love to find my second lease on life.

Story
Hello, dear heart. My name is Annie, and yes, I am seventeen years old — a proper lady with silver in my whiskers and wisdom in my eyes. I’m a 12-pound Cairn Terrier and Yorkie mix, small in size but full of quiet spirit. I have been with my family since I was a puppy, and I have known nothing but love. Now, because of their medical challenges, I am looking for one last gentle home to call my own. I have lived peacefully with cats, children, and other dogs. I’m friendly, though a bit aloof — I enjoy company, but I also value my independence. With children, I am soft and gentle, happiest around calm voices and kind hands. I spend my days roaming freely inside, napping in my dog bed in the living room, and keeping an eye on the rhythm of the house. I do wonderfully when left alone for four to six hours, and I sleep soundly through the night without needing to go out. Routine is very important to me. Breakfast is at seven, dinner at five, with a little lunchtime nibble to keep things civilized. When I need to go outside, I politely ring my bell. I still enjoy a good walk — even up to two miles — though I take things at a dignified pace. I may be a bit hard of hearing and slower than I once was, but I’m healthy and steady on my feet. If you have a calm home, a warm heart, and room for a devoted little shadow, I would love to spend my golden years by your side.

Story
Hi there! My name is Fisherman, but my friends just call me Fish. I’m an 8-year-old, 10-pound Chihuahua with a big heart packed into a very small body. I’ve spent my life living indoors where I can roam freely or relax in my cozy crate, which is actually my favorite place to sleep. It’s my little den where I feel safe and snug. I’ve lived with cats and other dogs before, though I’ll admit I sometimes bark or grumble at them to let them know I’m around. It’s just my way of communicating! I’m pretty relaxed with pre-teens and can handle a little household chaos, but deep down I really appreciate a calm, peaceful space where I can relax and keep an eye on things. I’m what you might call a professional snuggler. If you sit down, chances are I’ll want to curl right up with you. I’m also very food motivated—treats are one of my favorite things in the world! Because I love my snacks so much, I prefer to enjoy them without sharing. Walks are okay, but I’m not exactly training for a marathon. I’ll happily go outside to take care of business, but after a short stroll I usually decide that’s enough exercise for the day. Sometimes I simply sit down and wait to be carried home like the tiny prince I am. At busy places like the farmers market, I much prefer riding in a cart and watching the world go by. I should tell you that I’m still working on my house-training skills. I’ll need someone patient who understands that learning takes time and consistency. I may also have a little trouble seeing in the dark, so stairs at night can make me nervous. My ideal home would be with someone kind, patient, and experienced with house training who can offer a calm place for me to settle in. My current person loves me very much but will be going through cancer treatment and won’t be able to keep up with the time and energy my training needs. What I can promise in return is a very sweet, loyal little companion who loves treats, cuddles, and being close to his people. If you’re looking for a tiny snuggle buddy with lots of love to give, I might just be your guy.
