Story
It absolutely breaks our hearts to write this, but we are looking for a loving new home for our two sweet dogs, Pepper and Jedi. We adopted them both as puppies, and they have been part of our family ever since. Unfortunately, my parents no longer have the time or space to give them the attention they truly deserve, and we want to find them a home where they can thrive. Pepper is 6 years old and is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. She is not spayed, though she no longer has heat cycles. Jedi is 8 years old and is a Chihuahua/Pug mix, and she is spayed. These two are a bonded pair and must stay together. They are house-trained and very well behaved. When no one is home, they are typically kept in their crates, so we are unsure how they would do home alone outside of them. They are incredibly sweet dogs who love all people and have never shown aggression. They do bark and get excited when they see other dogs or cats. We are not in a rush to rehome them and will be careful about where they go.

Story
We adopted Kota 3 years ago at Ark Pet rescue. He has always been good with our kids and has fun in the backyard chasing birds and squirrels. He is quite active while around people and likes to play keep away with his toys. He is very protective of the family and will bark at other dogs and people outside. He calms down with new people after a few mins of barking and smelling them.We are moving and need to rehome our dog as the new place does not accept dogs.

Story
Gronk is sponsored by Danny Flensborg.Hi, I’m Gronk!I’m a strong, handsome pit bull terrier mix with a loyal heart and a sensitive soul. I may look confident and sturdy on the outside, but I’m actually a thoughtful guy who feels things deeply. I can get overwhelmed by a lot of noise and activity, so I do best in a calm, predictable environment where I can relax and feel secure. The shelter has been a stressful place for me. With all the barking, movement, and constant commotion, it can be hard for me to show adopters who I really am. Because of that kennel stress, I’m currently on medication to help me feel calmer and less overwhelmed. I’ll need to continue that medication for a while after I go home, with the support of a veterinarian to slowly and safely taper me off as I adjust to home life. When I’m in a quiet space and given time to settle in, my true personality shines — affectionate, devoted, and happiest when I’m close to my people.Because I’m a sensitive guy, I’m looking for an experienced dog owner who understands canine body language and knows how to help me feel safe. Sudden movements over my head or being startled awake can make me nervous, so I appreciate gentle handling, patience, and people who respect my space when I’m resting.I’m looking for:• An adult-only home• No cats• A calm household with steady routines• A securely fenced yard (I can be a bit of an escape artist when anxious)My shelter friends are also open to a foster-to-adopt situation so I can decompress outside of the shelter and show you who I truly am in a home environment. Once I’m out of the chaos, my loving and loyal side really comes through. If you’re patient, experienced, and believe trust is built with kindness and consistency, I just might be your perfect match.Love,Gronk If you are interested in meeting Gronk, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday 11am – 6pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm. If you’d like to schedule an appointment, check out the pets’ profile on our website at newberganimals.com to fill out an application and email to frontdesk@newberganimals.com.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Story
Meet Ladybug 🐞Ladybug is a 6-year-old red Heeler with a story that has left her heart a little broken. Her beloved human became ill, went into acute care, and sadly passed away. During that time, Ladybug was left alone at home for nearly two months, with only brief visits for food. By the time she came to us, she was living in fear and survival mode. At her lowest point, we couldn’t safely touch her.So, we slowed down. Two dedicated staff members began sitting quietly outside her kennel each day—no pressure, no expectations—just calm, steady presence. For three weeks, they simply existed alongside her, offering patience, consistency, and silent companionship. And slowly… Ladybug began to trust again.Eventually, she allowed them to enter her space. Then came a collar. A leash. And finally, a walk outside to feel the fresh air again.Ladybug has made wonderful strides in recent weeks. She is becoming more comfortable being handled by shelter staff, and the circle of people she trusts continues to grow, with more staff now able to safely work with her. She can go in and out of her kennel, enjoy walks, and even accept affection. While Ladybug is making great progress, healing is not always linear. Some days she may regress a little or be more unpredictable as she continues to adjust. She needs a patient, understanding person who will give her the time and grace she needs to keep building confidence. We know finding the right home for Ladybug won’t be easy. But we also know she deserves it.She is looking for a very special person—someone compassionate, steady, and willing to meet her exactly where she is: scared, unsure, and still learning that the world can be safe again. With time, we believe she can become the loving, loyal companion she once was.The shelter is also very open to a foster-to-adopt situation so Ladybug can decompress outside of the shelter and show you who she truly is in a home environment. Once she’s out of the chaos, her loving and loyal side really comes through. If you have the heart and patience to give Ladybug the second chance she deserves, please reach out to Pam at the shelter.Let’s help Ladybug find her way home.Due to COVID-19, we are currently only open by appointment. Story
Meet Trixie – A Bundle of Energy with a Heart of GoldTrixie is a young, sweet girl who’s full of energy, love, and enthusiasm for life. She’s still learning the ropes and will need some training to help set her up for success, but she’s eager, affectionate, and absolutely worth the effort. When Trixie isn’t zooming around or discovering the world with her nose, she’s a total cuddle bug who just wants to be close to her people. She has the kind of happy, loving personality that makes every day brighter — especially if you’re ready for doggo kisses and tail wags.Trixie can be nervous around young children and would do best in an adult only home or a family with older, calm children. If you’re looking for a fun, loving dog to grow with and are ready to help her become her best self, Trixie is ready to meet you.If you are interested in meeting Trixie, the shelter is open Monday through Saturday 11am – 6pm and Sunday 11am – 4pm.
