To: Prospective AdoptersFrom: Adoption TeamMeet Valentine!Valentine is a small dog with a big, confident, and intelligent personality. He is responsive to training and has already learned his name, “come back,” and “stay.” He has learned to use the doggie door, sleeps through the night, walks well on leash, eats well, and has been consistently house-trained, although he may still occasionally attempt to mark.Valentine enjoys attention from people, but can sometimes become over-eager, which may show as barking or pulling on leash toward what he wants to see. He has shown that he can make progress with consistent training and structure.Behavioral Considerations:Valentine tends to growl and may try to bite when being picked up, so this boundary should be respected and addressed gradually through positive, reward-based handling. He has also demonstrated resource guarding, particularly when something is being taken from his mouth. We are working with him through “trading,” teaching him that giving up an item results in something positive, such as a treat.Valentine will need an adopter who is patient, experienced, and committed to continued training and behavior management. His future family should understand his bite history, recognize his triggers, and carefully manage food, toys, and other valued items. Professional guidance from a qualified positive-reinforcement trainer or veterinary behavior professional is recommended.Valentine is a smart dog who has already shown that he can learn and make progress.
