Story
Ruthie is a 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer mix with a gentle soul and a brilliant mind. Before coming into rescue, Ruthie lived on her own for at least 6 months, skillfully evading capture, multiple trapping attempts, and surviving in an industrial area of town. Fed by kind mechanics and workers, she learned how to stay safe, avoid danger, and always show up for food — and that intelligence still shines through today. After a dramatic capture, Ruthie has been in a foster home, where she’s proven to be a very polite houseguest. She is fully house-trained and, even at her scariest moments, has never shown a hint of aggression — no growling, no raised lips, just fear. Ruthie is shy and deeply cautious with people, but she is sweet, gentle, and incredibly observant. We would not be surprised if Ruthie spent some of her life in someone’s home.  This brainy girl reads the room like a pro. She knows when a human might approach and will quietly skedaddle to keep herself feeling safe. While she’s still very nervous about leashes and handling, she allows most people to gently scratch her muzzle, and she’s learning — slowly but surely — that human touch isn’t such a bad thing. Watching her progress has been incredibly rewarding, especially as she’s started to enjoy ear scratches and soft affection from her foster mom. Ruthie is a great pack dog. She does beautifully with dogs of all sizes and temperaments and enjoys playful wrestling with dogs her size, but doesn’t demand play.  She happily coexists with the resident Chihuahua in her foster home. Ruthie is calm and content indoors and also enjoys a daily visit to the dog park. She’s a quiet presence who’s perfectly happy lounging on a chair, listening to her foster mom’s Zoom calls, and soaking in the safety of home life. At home, Ruthie is her foster mom’s quiet shadow. She sleeps in her room, wiggles with excitement when she comes home, follows her around the dog park — and yet may still hop off her bed and slip away if that same foster mom walks toward her for a pet. With Ruthie, trust is built in tiny, meaningful moments, and every day brings progress. Because of her history, Ruthie is a high flight-risk dog, especially in the early days. She will need a very committed adopter with a securely fenced yard, experience with fearful or flight-risk dogs, and a willingness to use safety tools like GPS collars, double leashes, and secure handling. Strength matters too — this is a 60-lb girl who needs someone confident and prepared. Ruthie has been around children at the dog park and treats them like little adults — with polite, reserved hesitation. She is food-motivated, sweet, and incredibly smart. With patience, structure, and time, she has all the makings of a truly special companion. Ruthie is one of those dogs who, with the right adopter and a few committed months of trust-building, will become a dream dog. Watching her finally relax, feel safe, and just be a dog has been an absolute privilege — and we can’t wait to see her find the forever home she deserves. ccrnewengland@gmail.com PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.August 15, 2026, 1:35 pm

Story
Hi I'm Gigi! I love snuggling, I'm very loyal to my friends, and best of all, I give hugs! I was surrendered to the shelter when my family couldn't care for me, and can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but give me a little time and I'll be your gentle companion. If you're looking for a sweet, cuddly girl I'm the perfect dog for you.

Story
Lizzie is a special sweet shy girl looking for a home where she will feel safe and secure! This 3 year old boxer mix spent several months running loose near a dangerously busy road, wandering between businesses but too scared to approach anyone. Our friends at Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery were able to trap her and she immediately melted and clung to her rescuer for security once she knew she was safe. She's very timid and army crawls up to new people tentatively especially men, and may bark and try to act tough at first. But once she bonds she turns into a happy silly goofy playful boxer. She can be vocal seeing dogs on walks, but lived with another smaller dog and has made LOTS of doggie friends of all sizes at the shelter with proper introductions. She is easily spooked and may try to bolt when startled or in new situations, definitely a flight risk so making sure she's securely leashed at all times is especially important. Lizzie is 63lbs full grown, spayed, updated on shots, and ready to start a new life. Please submit an application to meet Lizzie by appointment. She may take a few visits to warm up and get comfortable with you, but once she bonds you will have a loyal cuddly best friend for life. If you have any questions, please email us at adoptions@pawscrossedny.org for more information. Please understand that we cannot hold any pets. All adoptions are done on a first come, first adopt basis for pre-approved applicants. The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.August 15, 2026, 1:46 am

Story
Meet Berkley! Berkley is a 1 1/5 yr old Boxer mix. He’s up to date on all vaccines (including rabies), microchipped with a lifetime-paid registration, and has been neutered. Berkley is patiently waiting for his furever home. He has been with the rescue since 7 wks of age and has been overlooked. Berkley deserves to have a home of his own. Come and meet this boy and you may see that he is the one for you. Berkley is as gentle, quiet, laidback type of pup. He enjoys playing in the yard but also cherishes quiet moments away from his littermates. With his tan coat, and four white paws—he’s as adorable on the outside as he is sweet on the inside. He’ll melt into your lap, follow you from room to room, and look at you like you're his whole world. He is one loyal puppy looking for a loyal family to call his own. He loves treats and one type of kong football. He craves ppl attention. Think Berkley might be the missing piece to your pack? Then contact Bright Starz Neu Life Animal Rescue for an application or a meet and greet. We offer foster to adopt for 2 or more wks to make sure all work out together. Don't take our word, come and meet Berkley and find out for yourself.

Story
MEET KYLIE, Kylie is a boxer bulldog Mix she is up to date on all vaccines including rabies she was spay She is about a one and a half years old She is a sibling too the other three dogs. Kylie is very active very hyper She would benefit from being with someone that is active may be a runner that could take her running She definitely needs to have a fenced in yard Kylie loves people she loves attention She likes to play with other dogs but I think Kylie needs to be the only dog in a home because she's been in two homes with other dogs And did great in both homes but all of a sudden for no reason she attacked the other dogs so I would not suggest her being with other dogs other than that Kylie's a very good dog she's house broken she's just extremely hyper and needs to someone that could help her outrun herself. if you think Kylie might be a fit for you please contact her rescue we offer Foster to adopt for a couple weeks to make sure all works well with Kylie and the family so contact the rescue for a meet and greet and an adoption application

Story
Hey there… I’m Turbo.   I’m a 3-year-old, 47-pound Pitbull mix with a handsome black-and-white coat and a smile that seems to win people over pretty quickly. I ended up in the shelter because my dad felt I was spending too much time alone in my crate, and he wanted something better for me—a home where I’d get more love, time, and attention. I’m hoping that person might be you.   I used to be housebroken and crate trained, and while shelter life has changed my routine a bit, I’m a smart guy and should pick things back up in no time with a little consistency.   What really matters most about me? I love people. I’m friendly, affectionate, and I get along great with other dogs and kids. I’m the kind of dog who just wants to be part of the family—whether that’s playtime in the yard or relaxing by your side.   Summer is right around the corner, and I can’t help but dream about spending it with my very own forever family. Maybe that could be with you?   Let’s meet—I’d love to show you what a great companion I am.Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 15, 2026, 1:35 pm

Story
This sweet girl is one of many dogs who's fate it was to be abandoned here in the south. People are throwing sweet dogs out day and night in this economy. Ducky is one of the lucky ones that was picked up by a kind stranger and brought to a rescue that was able to find a foster! She is Spayed and UTD on required vaccines. Ducky likes other dogs but is rambunctious. She loves everyone she meets so older children would be fine. She is close to housetrained and will just need to get comfortable with her new routine. If you would like to add this sweet and very pretty girl to your forever family, please email omlc7@hotmail.com and we will send our info and app. If you do not see a response, be sure and check you junk folder.
