Story
Sandy the Great Pumpkin has a large name, as is appropriate for a fellow of his large size. While Sandy may look like a big, tough guy, looks can be deceiving, and he is actually a very sensitive soul.
Sandy came to Cameron Animal Rescue from an inner city shelter where he was brought after his owners could no longer care for him. The change was devastating to this sensitive guy, and he has taken a lot of time to adjust. Sandy finds many things scary, including people and places he doesn't know, loud noises, unexpected movements, kittens, and vaccum cleaners, among others. However he has made slow but steady progress, and in learning to trust, has shown us his true silly, sweet, demanding personality. It takes time and patience to earn Sandy's trust, but once he trusts you, he loves ear, neck, and chin scratches, and other attention. He also loves food (and can sometimes overcome potential fear if a treat is involved). He does not however, love most other animals, although he does tolerate calm older cats and dogs who ignore his presence and leave him alone. Human children are a walking, talking combination of the things he doesn't like (noise, movement, and surprises). He does love big cozy beds that are large enough to fit him, and little stuffed toy mice that he bats around like a silly kitten. Sandy would do best in a quiet, calm home, with a patient owner.
Sandy is approximately 10 years old and weighs 18lb. Sandy is healthy and his general bloodwork is good. He had previous ear infections that were never treated, and which damaged the cartilage of his ears, causing them to crumple, but the infection has now been treated and is fully resolved. Sandy is FeLV/FIV negative and Bartonella negative; he is neutered; he has had his full series of FVRCP and Rabies vaccines; and he has been fecal tested and dewormed.
Sandy has had his world turned upside down, but he is doing his best to be brave, and when you earn his trust it is incredibly rewarding. Can you be Sandy's new family? Email CAHadoptions@gmail.com for more information.
