Story
🖤 Draco is ready for his forever 🖤 Draco is looking for an urgent foster or adopter! 🙏🏼 Draco isn’t only the loyal dog everybody wants, but he is determined to be your best friend for life no matter what. Dogs never seem to fail humans but yet so many are failed by owners. Draco is ready to have a furever home where he won’t be failed! Draco is a great dog who loves to snuggle on the couch with his person and give you plenty of kisses. He enjoys running outside and playing with his abundance of toys. He also enjoys a big backyard to run in when he gets the zoomies. Unfortunately many would look past him because of his coloring, but I think it makes him stand out even more. I have truly enjoyed taking care of this precious soul, he is such a joyful dog and will make someone very happy! He is hard of hearing so when you want to get his attention I either squeak a toy or I wave to him to come. This treat motivated boy will make the perfect dog for someone who is willing to give him the chance he needs. Quick facts ⬇️ •5 year old male pitbull •Dog friendly; cat selective •Fully vaccinated, microchipped, and fixed •Hearing impaired •Energetic and loves jolly balls •Loves to snuggle 📝 Foster application: https://form.jotform.com/secondchancespetsanctuarytx/Second-Chances-Foster-Application 📝 Adoption application: https://form.jotform.com/secondchancespetsanctuarytx/Second-Chances-Adoption-Application 📍 Currently being fostered in Fort Wayne, IN Foster or adopter in the Midwest needed! Story
Meet Georgie – Your Future Couch Cuddle Buddy! He is a 1 year old, 49.8 pound, APBT mix that was surrendered to the shelter. Georgie is a goofy, gentle soul with a heart that’s just looking for the right place to call home. After a rocky start in a chaotic environment, this sweet boy is finally starting to show his true colors – and let us tell you, they’re absolutely lovely.Georgie was originally found as a stray by his previous owners, who kept him for about five months. During that time, he lived in a very busy household with 7 other dogs—including 4 small ones—and 10 special needs children. It was a lot for a young dog to handle, and Georgie became understandably overwhelmed. He didn’t like sharing his food or toys and was constantly on high alert around the other dogs. The decision to surrender Georgie came after a difficult situation: some of the smaller dogs began attacking his legs, and Georgie, having been pushed past his limits, tried to defend himself. In an attempt to break things up, the owner laid their full weight on top of him—startled and frightened, Georgie reacted by biting. It was an unfortunate moment, but one that made it clear he needed a calmer, more structured environment to thrive. When he first arrived at the shelter, Georgie was very nervous and unsure of his new surroundings. During his 10-day bite quarantine, our team focused on helping him feel safe—and it wasn’t long before he became a staff favorite! With time, patience, and one-on-one attention, Georgie began to blossom into the sweet, sleepy, and silly boy he truly is. He walks beautifully on leash, takes treats gently, and loves hanging out with his favorite people.Georgie is now ready for a fresh start. He’s looking for a calm, predictable home—no small children, please—and may enjoy the company of a respectful dog friend who gives him space. What he really needs is someone patient and understanding, willing to offer him the second chance he so deserves.Despite his past, Georgie is all heart. He’s ready to trade shelter life for soft beds, peaceful mornings, and a loving home that sees the good boy he is.?? Could you be the calm to his chaos, the safe place he’s been waiting for?We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. Story
Meet Dewey!A 69lb, 11 year old APBT gentleman with a heart as big as you could imagine his story. Found roaming the streets with another dog, Dewey was brought to the shelter in rough shape—but even then, his gentle spirit shone through.Despite everything he’s been through, Dewey friendly and affectionate and greets people with a soft tail wag. With other dogs, he can be a bit selective, so he’d do best with careful introductions or as the only pup soaking up all the love.Dewey still has some pep in his step, but his age is beginning to show—his once-spry body now carries the signs of a long life lived, including visible wear and arthritis that can slow him down. Still, he faces each day with quiet resilience and an eagerness to share gentle companionship.Whether it’s exploring the yard, lounging in a sunny spot, or checking in for pets, he enjoys life’s simple joys. What Dewey needs most now is a calm, loving home where he can spend his golden years feeling safe, cherished, and finally at peace. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!
