Story
Coal came to us as a stray (well, sort of). He was found on someone's property, and they wanted to keep him. We walked them through the legal process of a stray hold, and once the hold was up, they adopted him. Not long after his adoption, they surrendered him. They ony had him a few days so it is still difficult to rule in or out anything. We did our usual assessments. The only thing we noticed that wasn't what we label a green behavior was his intorduction to other dogs. He wants to be dominant and is very pushy about it. The dog he met with was also dominant, but was willing to give it up to keep the peace with Coal. He can be rude when meeting another dog but he is very respectful when the other dog gives a warning. We are requiring a meet-and-greet if there are other dogs in the home. ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100 NON-LOCAL $140 All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped. All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds. We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary. We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

Story
Luther (previously Lambo) is back after his adopter could not house him anymore. He is a 9 month old Husky lab mix. He is a stubborn dog. He would follow his nose to the end of the world. This gets him in quite a bit of trouble, such as digging into the trash. He is going to need some work on a leash. He is very calm and quite despite how excited he gets on a leash. He doesn't mind cats and is submissive to larger more dominant dogs. He loves to play with dogs his size. This animal has a $100 sponsorship toward his adoption fees. ADOPTION FEE: LOCAL $100-100 =FREE! NON-LOCAL $140-100 =$40 All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. This adventurous outdoor dog is on a journey of learning leash and house training. While he may be a bit shy and less socialized, his gentle spirit truly shines through. He loves to explore, although he can feel a bit uncertain when he's in a tight spot. With a little patience and understanding, he has so much potential to blossom! Story
Meet Rocky! He is believed to be a mix of Corgi, Aussie, and PomChi. At 9 months old, he hasn't had much exposure to many people, which has made him a bit timid at first. With a little time and patience, he reveals his true personality. Rocky is known to be good with cats, dogs, older children, and the elderly. He is working on being house-trained and enjoys traveling. However, like many dogs, he can be a little sensitive during nail trims. We recommend a calm home environment with a consistent schedule and children aged 12 and older, as he can get overstimulated by loud noises and a lot of movement. Story
Jimmy is a guesstimated 5 year old 66 pound male Dutch Shepherd. He caused a bit of ruckus for a couple of days running up and down and around State Road 3. We were finally able to catch him and bring him into the shelter. In the 13 days he has been with us, not one word was heard from an owner. Which is sad since we don't get to know his real name or his previous home experiences. Jimmy has shown he has some training, sits and lays down on command! He is a little bit of a puller, but by far not the worst we have had, on a leash. When the people are chit chatting and not paying him attention, he just takes a seat or lays down quietly waiting nicely for you to offer attention. This though is in far contrast to his kennel presence. He seems to have extreme anxiety being kenneled/confined. To the point he paces, jumps, dances, scrapes his nose and toes, and well makes a general mess of his kennel. To help lower his anxiety and give his best first impression we are requiring interested Adopters to request to see him as he will be in a non-public area of the shelter. Even though he was a stray, we were able to determine he is very likely potty trained (if he has regular access to outside), seems willing to make friends with dogs, and ignores cats. But of course since he came in as a stray we really don't know his previous history. We also need to mention that he may have been the culprit to some cattle destruction so we do not recommend having or living near livestock.
