Story
Meet Striker 1 year old German shepherd/husky mix Currently living in foster care. Please call 913-684-4939 to schedule a time to meet him. Stiker is a sweet boy but he was not thriving at the shelter so he's currently living in a home environment. He's so used to being around his kids and family that he was getting depressed and having tummy issues from stress, so we got him into foster ASAP to get him back to the happy pup we know he is. He is great with children and other pets. This pup is ready for adoption -- or even foster to adopt if you want a short trial period to see if he might be a match for your family. Super sweet, good with children, good with cats, he's the whole package! He does have that husky singing voice, and energy to spare, but he's also got some training behind him, and with a great family to continue working with him, he'll be an amazing addition to your home! Striker is 13 months old, up to date on shots, already neutered and is scheduled to receive a microchip. He knows how to sit, lay, shake, and is working on stay. He loves to play catch, but he's not great at bringing it back just yet. This boy deserves an amazing family, as do they all, and if you think you can fill those shoes, please contact us for more information! Call 913-684-4939. Facility is open MWF 11-4 (Call before visiting to ensure someone is there to meet you. Striker is not currently at the shelter, so please call to arrange for him to be there when you would like to visit.) Email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com for an adoption application.

Story
Meet Chief: COURTESY LISTING Chief is NOT at the shelter. Please contact his owner for an appointment to meet him: Emilyalbertarogers@gmail.com. From Chief's owner: Chief is a 7-year-old German Shepherd dog (born September of 2016). He has a wonderful temperament, loves people, and is great with children (we have three, and in the 6 years of having children, I've never seen him do anything even remotely aggressive to our children or any child that we have been around). He does not enjoy being around small dogs or cats. Chief was born in Hawaii, and since then has lived in Kentucky, California and now Kansas. He has been adaptable with every move and has not struggled whatsoever with relocating. He's a very happy dog and is content wherever he is. He also does great traveling in the car, no sickness. He also doesn't have any issues with storms or loud noises, no anxiety. When we travel, he does great at a kennel, or with someone coming to our home. Chief is completely house broken and well trained at home - he does not get on furniture and he understands his boundaries within the home (I.e. does not go upstairs or in the basement). He loves to be outside and would spend as much time outside as possible, if he could. We love our dog and we are sad to rehome him, but in the desert of California, Chief developed a condition called Pannus which impacts his eyes. Living in Kansas has been very good for him and has slowed the progression of his condition, pretty much completely. We have even seen improvement in his vision. However, we are about to move to another desert environment for a long stint of time, which will likely cause him to go blind. We are looking to rehome him in order to protect him and his quality of life. Email Emilyalbertarogers@gmail.com for more information.

Story
Meet Dakota Dakota is a sweet boy who is well behaved. He has a great temperament, he's happy to go for a walk or snuggle on the couch. He is a little fearful of some things (sudden noises) and situations (construction sites), but he puts his trust in his handler that everything is OK. Dakota is probably about 8 years old. He came in to us on the skinny side, but he loves treats, he will sit like a champ just in case you have one to share, and he's getting some good chow, so he ought to be in great condition in no time. Please come visit him to see if he's a match for you/your family! FLSF is open MWF 11-4 and 9-noon the second Saturday of the month. CALL 913-684-4939 for an appointment or for more information. EMAIL fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com for an adoption application. Story
I have to rehome my Foxhound Mix. He is approximately 60lbs and fully grown. Now 2 years old. He is a sweet boy who loves to run. He does great with kids, and cats and loves other dogs. Unfortunately, I am selling my house next month and need to find him a home ASAP. I cannot take him where I am going as they only allow 1 dog. My other dog is 12 years old and would be put to sleep if she were to be put up for adoption. He is house-trained, crate-trained, up-to-date on all shots, and neutered. Please be kind as this is already hard enough. Selling my home was not part of my plan but I can no longer afford it.
