Story
Philly arrived at NCCR on 10/12/23, surrendered by a good Samaritan who had taken him in temporarily when his owner lost her home. Philly is an approximately 1 ½-year-old Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix. He is very friendly with people. Philly will need more training for his basic obedience skills, but he has a very nice temperament to work with. He is an energetic boy, so a family that can provide him with plenty of exercise, attention, and playtime would be ideal. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day. We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in. *PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them. NYS Registration #RR028

Story
Taco & Bubba arrived at NCCR on 1/13/24, pulled from an overcrowded shelter where their time had run out. They had lived in the same home together prior to being surrendered to the shelter, but lost their home due to their owner’s divorce. They do not have to be adopted together, but would probably prefer to be if possible. They are both approximately 14-month-old neutered male mixed breeds, each weighing 50-55 lbs., and they are full-grown. We’re told they are dog-friendly, too. More info to come as we get to know them better. Story
Why does Luke look so sad? Luke's early puppy life was in a hoarding situation. Growing up, it was primarily just him and his owner. However, the dynamics shifted when another dog joined the household. Unfortunately, the two didn't get along, leading to the scars you now see on Luke. He's gradually acclimating to the shelter environment, and we're hopeful that soon we'll his happy, playful side. Luke is trained for both the house and crate, though he doesn’t require crating when left by himself.  Luke would thrive best in a loving home with adults where he is the sole pet. He's a shelter favorite, come and meet him! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application which is found on the website at caninerescue.org.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
Pierre arrived at NCCR on 2/10/24, rescued from an overcrowded shelter that ran out of room for him. He is an approximately 2–3-year-old neutered male English Bulldog mix, weighing around 60 lbs. Pierre is a very nice boy and friendly with people. He will likely do best as an “only” dog as he does get a wee bit jealous if another dog in the household is seeking attention too. Pierre seems to be house trained, as he keeps a tidy kennel. Pierre really loves a good cuddle and enjoys being petted and scratched! More info to come as we get to know him better! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Story
The owner of Oakley could no longer provide care for him as he became overwhelmed as more family is staying at the home. He’s an adorable 1 1/2 year old little guy seeking a serene home environment with a female owner (preferably without frequent visitors or children), as he tends to prefer female company over male. He is housetrained, leash trained, crate trained, does not chew things, is relaxed on car rides, does not like kids, grooming, or loud noises (fireworks etc.), loves to fetch his ball and play with his stuffed toys. He forms strong bonds swiftly and has experience living with another dog, but the best chance for adoption success lies in being the sole pet. If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. Husky

Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Macy arrived at NCCR in mid-November after she was discarded by a breeder who had no further use for her. She is an approximately 10-year-old female Husky. Macy seems to be at least partially blind in her left eye. She is a friendly girl who seems to love attention and petting and enjoys being with people. She knows how to walk on-leash, but enjoys her down time as much as her walks. Macy is able to climb low fences, but seems to do well with the shelter’s 6’ fences. She may need work on house training, but seems to be doing very well with it as long as she is kept on a routine schedule. She does not seem to like other dogs much - probably a result of being a breeder mom, she had to always watch out for her pups! Typical of Huskies, she is a shedder, but she loves to be brushed, which makes grooming much easier! If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so.
