Story
Emma is a  beautiful 11 month old female, white with blue eyes and some brown markings, located in Murphy, NC.  She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and on heart worm preventative. Emma is somewhat fearful of new surroundings but does well once she gets her confidence back. Very energetic, loves being outside. Obeys some commands as in sit, stay and come (here). Very food focused and has a special bowl to slow her down. She’s okay with cats ( see video) and some dogs. Needs one on one time and more training. Owner is a young man with not enough time. She came from a sad situation when she was only 6 weeks old and needs some love and attention.  My number is 561-248-7191December 4, 2023, 12:23 pm

Story
Marshall is an old red tick coonhound who has had a hard life.  He is about 45 lbs and 10 years old.  He is slowly recovering and came as a stray from the Valley River Humane Society as a hospice case on 12/30/21.  At least he now has good food and a warm place in the Howling Wolf Cabin to spend his days.  We are still trying to fatten him up.  He was I think the most starved dog I have ever seen in my 20 years doing dog rescue.  But slowly he is recovering.December 4, 2023, 12:23 pm

Story
Buddy is a young 4 to 5 month old, handsome male Plott Hound / Pit mix with jungle brindle coloring.  He was a stray and is being fully vetted.  Buddy is house trained, good natured. and full of energy.  He loves to chase balls, play with stuffed animal toys, will sit and shake hands.  He would be a great family dog.  Buddy doesn't run away on walks, i.e., a leash isn't necessary and is friendly with other dogs, wanting to play.  Please call his foster Bonnie for more info at 941-626-1537 or Ron at 985-630-1613.   December 4, 2023, 12:23 pm

Story
Sugar looks like a white 45 lb Kimmer Cur & possible Am. Bulldog mix, very shy and sweet, about 3 years old.  She was found in Wildcat Subdivision in Murphy, NC in late July and brought to nearby Lost Dogs Run, so weak from starvation, that she could hardly move.  Sugar recovered rapidly and now is a very quiet and calm dog who just likes to hang around, following her foster mom.  She was obviously used as a breeding dog in the past. She is now  totally vetted, house trained, and heart worm negative.  However, in mid August she had three 2 minute seizures within 24 hours and was immediately put on levetiracetam (initially 3 500 mg tablet a day and now a month later 1 tablet a day) which totally stopped the seizures.  Her medicine is not expensive and her dosage is 1/3rd the normal dose and has no bad side effects.  We will soon try with no tablets to see if there are still no seizures.  Her low energy nature would make her a great pet for a retired couple.  She is just so sweet and wants to stay near home.  Each morning, she is let out to explore in the neighboring woods and is back within a half hour, eager to go back in the house.  Call Ron Stoessell (985-630-1613) or email him at ronstoessell@gmail.com if you can provide a great home for her.December 4, 2023, 12:23 pm

Story
Pancho is a handsome young black and tan coonhound from Blueridge, GA.  He was a stray turned in to the local shelter and rescued by LDR.  He was already neutered and is being totally vetted. Pancho has an old injury in his right eye that is being examined to see if the eye can be saved.  He is very sweet and affectionate, gets along great with other dogs but has not been tested with cats.  He likes to sleep in your arms at night.  This is a great family dog!  If you are interested in adopting him, you must have a fenced yard.  Please email Ron Stoessell at rontoessell@gmail.com for further information.December 4, 2023, 12:23 pm
