Story
Is your couch lonely? Is your heart empty? Is your snack game weak and in need of supervision? Adopt Underdog. He’s here to save your life or at least dramatically nap through it. At 6 years old and 35 pounds of pure loaf-shaped excellence, Underdog is what happens when you mix a potato, a marshmallow, and the emotional depth of a Shakespearean actor. He’s soft, dramatic, mildly confused at all times and he knows he’s the main character. This is a dog who loves car rides like he’s got errands to run. Flops like a Victorian damsel when asked to move from the couch. Knows the word “blanket” because he’s just that cozy. Stares into your soul like he’s writing an indie song about you. He’s crate trained, walks on leash with zero effort, and doesn’t care if you accidentally roll onto him during a nap. Underdog is the full package, part-time couch ornament, full-time emotional support loaf, and aspiring Instagram influencer. But don't worry - his package is neutered. His hobbies include being adored, giving you a look like he has a juicy secret to tell, and melting into carpets like a warm stick of butter. If you can open your heart and home to dear Underdog, please contact AmsterDog by call/text at 917-689-8414 or by email at info@amsterdog.org. Apply to adopt Underdog at AmsterDog.org. Thanks for caring about a pet in need!

Mighty - 12 weeks & 11lbs (as of 6/18), Beagle Mix, Neutered Expected full grown size about 40lbs  This puppy is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience required:INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also  tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult. His Foster Mom Says: Mighty is a serious cuddle machine and happiest parked up on the couch in your arms watching hacks or sex and the city. He is incredibly loving, gentle and sweet natured. His little hound howl comes out a bit when left alone but he is a champion self soother and calms himself quickly. He sleeps through the night like a dream in his create (which he loves). While the city overwhelms him a bit he is becoming braver with each walk. We are working on basic puppy training but this little guy is only 12 weeks and is really learning how the world works. He is very trusting of people and loves everyone he comes across (human or 4 legged) - he is yet to meet a lap that he doesn’t want to nap in. He is working on his potty training which improves everyday. This guy is the perfect addition and will fill any home with endless love and joy. Energy level:MEDIUM – Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Potty trained?Working on this skill. Puppies under 12 weeks old are often on track with their wee pad skills, but they’re too young to walk outside in public NYC areas yet because they haven’t finished their puppy vaccine series. Puppies older than 12 weeks are usually learning to do their business outside. Potty training takes a lot of patience, consistency, and clean up.  Social with dogs?Yes – Good with most other dogs (sizes, breeds, etc.) as far as we know and enjoys socializing with other canines Social with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)Sort of – some puppies enjoy interacting with children, others get easily overwhelmed by their energy and attention. Regardless, most puppies are not a great match for a home with kids under age 8 because they go through intense mouthy play and rambunctious phases and often accidentally hurt young kids while playing. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.   Social with cats?Yes. Most puppies have the potential to be friends with a cat. It’s on the adopter to know their cat’s temperament and preferences and to teach their puppy respectful manners.  Mouthy play: High! All puppies go through phases where they chew your stuff and grab your hands, arms, feet… puppies naturally explore the world, play, and test boundaries with their mouths. (It also happens when they’re teething.) Their teeth are super sharp, so it can be a very painful phase for humans and other animals in the home. Proper training, outlets, and socialization are key. Separation anxiety:Most puppies have some level of separation anxiety as they learn to self soothe. Often they cry the first 10+ minutes at night or when they are left home alone or in a crate. Consistent training and alone time is crucial. Leash manners:None or learning, depending on the puppy’s age. Will need to work on this skill.   Crate trained?Probably not. None of our new puppies have been formally trained, but many of our foster parents/adopters choose to crate train so some of the puppies that have been with us for a little while are learning this skill. It can be a great way to keep puppies safe and teach them independence. Medical status:Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. (For dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.) How did this dog end up with Social Tees? Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes. LEARN MORE ABOUT US: socialteesnyc.org and Instagram @socialteesnyc ##2752125##
