Story
Hi there! My name is Pip, but you can call me Pippi Dogstocking or the Pipster, both nicknames that fit my bright, bouncy personality. I’m a 3-year-old. 36# Border Collie. My first 3 years were not ideal, but believe you me, with my new family, I will live the BEST life moving forward. I’m best described as resilient, happy, playful, affectionate, energetic, and alert. My soft, cute exterior hides a busy brain – I like to keep myself occupied. My theme song is “Jump” by Van Halen, because that’s how I show my excitement about… well, everything. My favorite things? Attention tops the list, followed closely by food, toys, and games like tug and fetch. I adore my people and want to be right in the middle of whatever is happening in my home. Because of that enthusiasm, I’m still learning about personal space and tend to jump or climb into laps uninvited. Training classes will be right up my alley, though. I’m eager to please, smart, and will absolutely shine with structure and guidance. My energy level is not for the faint of heart; I’m not off the charts but need something to do with my brain and body every day. I’d love an active, herding-breed–experienced home with a fenced yard or safe place to run so I can show off my speed. People who want to take me running, try agility or dog sports or simply believe in staying busy are perfect. A feline-free home is best; cats are a bit too interesting. A playful canine sibling would be da bomb! School aged kids who are gentle and kind are a good fit for me. I’m housebroken with supervision and crate-trained (though I may protest with FOMO). Leash leash walking is a work in progress – it’s brand new to me! I’m gaining confidence every day. I’m on the slim side right now, working to gain a few healthy pounds with good food and love. If you’re looking for a devoted, active, joyful companion who’s ready to learn and love with her whole heart, I might just be your girl. Pip is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN. APPLY TO ADOPT Pip at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Pip is being treated with a 30-day course of doxycycline for Lyme and Anaplasmosis. We do not expect any long-term effect from these conditions. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Pip's adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. All of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Sweet Maisie is a 6-year-old, 36# Border Collie with a heart as gentle as her big brown eyes. She is the perfect mid-sized companion who enjoys cuddling, walks, and hanging with her people. Affectionate and friendly with everyone she meets, Maisie greets visitors politely and loves being part of the family. The most remarkable thing about Maisie is her incredible intuition. She looks deep into your eyes and connects with you on a level that only a special canine companion can. This beauty is always ready for a stroll or time patrolling the backyard. Once inside, she is well-behaved and easy to live with. When it’s time to relax, she is right at your feet or waiting to be invited beside you on the couch, happy to soak up affection. Trustworthy loose in the house, and will crate if needed. Entertains herself nicely and loves a good chew bone. Maisie is doing very well on leash. #1 on her wish list is a fenced yard where she can watch the world and sniff to her heart's content. She is learning that car rides lead to fun new places. Maisie is a smart girl who picks up new routines easily. She’s building confidence every day and would thrive with a family that enjoys peaceful walks, quiet companionship, and plenty of love. Older kids who are kind and gentle would suit her just fine. She is good with other dogs and meets them politely on walks. Maisie lives with another dog in her foster home, and would enjoy a companionable canine roommate. She could also be an only dog. With the most loving heart you could ask for, Maisie is ready to bring warmth and joy to her forever home. She is being fostered in Richfield, MN. APPLY TO ADOPT Maisie at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Story
If “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles is your vibe, you definitely want to meet Meg, a 7 yr old, 37# Border Collie. She is the kind of dog who quietly brightens every room she enters. She’s sunshine wrapped in fur… a devoted snuggle bug, loyal shadow, and best friend all rolled into one. Meg’s favorite thing in the world is her person. She loves soft dog beds, gentle pets, and simply enjoying life together. She has calm energy and an easygoing personality perfect for a relaxed household. She would thrive in a family that enjoys daily walks around the neighborhood coupled with plenty of time together: playing or working in the yard, hanging together while her person works from home, or simply being part of everyday life. Meg is reliably housebroken and can be crated if needed, though she’s trustworthy loose in the house. She follows her people from room to room, content just to be near them. She doesn’t require a fenced yard but we know she would really enjoy having one. She is a bit timid on leash, getting better every day. Positive, upbeat encouragement means the world to her. Making people happy gives her a visible boost. She would prefer a suburban or rural home over a busy urban environment. Observing the activity from her foster home’s backyard is like TV for Meg – there’s a walking path behind the house. She takes it all in stride. Meg is suited to a home with kids roughly 10+ who have lived with dogs in the past. She would be happy as an only dog or could also enjoy a calm canine companion. Cats should be a-ok: she lived with them in her prior home. Meg is incredibly easy to live with. Gentle, loyal, and loving. If you’re searching for a steady, devoted companion who will bring warmth and peace to your life, Meg is ready to be your sunshine! Meg is being fostered in Shoreview, MN. APPLY TO ADOPT Meg at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Story
Meet JJ, an 8-year-old, 40# Border Collie with a heart as soft as his beautiful coat. This tender, sensitive boy is the very definition of a sweetheart. JJ is gentle, loving, and thoughtful in everything he does. He approaches the world with cautious curiosity, taking his time to observe, understand, and then engage with the people and experiences around him. JJ’s favorite things are all about connection. He adores being petted, and absolutely lights up when told he’s a good, brave boy. He sticks close to his person, happiest when settled at your feet. JJ enjoys classical music, toys (which he proudly carries everywhere), and playful games like keep-away with his foster mom or chasing a frisbee in the yard. A daily walk and outside playtime are enough to keep him happy and healthy. JJ must have a fenced yard attached to his home for exploring and bathroom breaks - he isn’t pottying on leash just yet. He loves his crate, is housebroken, walks nicely on leash and is friendly to visitors. Out in the world, he watches other dogs and people with interest. He may startle at loud noises, but recovers quickly. JJ's foster family asks him to try “one hard thing” each day, understanding that some things (like car rides) are challenging for him... and could be too much that day. They are moving at JJ's pace to build trust, accepting that some days he is just not up to it. All these positive experiences are buildings JJ's confidence in his people and his world. The ideal family for JJ is calm and patient. Experience supporting timid dogs would be ideal. JJ is looking for a home with minimal stairs due to weakness in his rear end (walks and playtime are making him stronger all the time!). He doesn’t need a canine sibling, though a quiet, low-key doggie friend would be fine. An adult home or one with older, gentle kids is a good fit for JJ. We are not sure what he would think of cats. JJ has arthritis and received chiropractic care, which may have helped with his comfort and improved his mobility. He benefits from daily medications and supplements (gabapentin, carprofen and an Omega-3) to help him feel better. The rescue will supply 3 months of medication (approximately $50/mo) to his adopters. He may wean himself off these meds as he gets stronger and more active. JJ is being fostered in Richfield, MN. He is ready to find his own family and become a treasured member of his very own family. Paul. JJ's adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
What can we say, other than have a tissue close by for this beautiful girl's story. Let us start by saying this 8 year old girl named Lassie was loved, and with a heavy heart she was surrendered over to rescue out of love and not for convenience. Her story begins in a single home where her people were unable to have children and she became the pride of lady of the household. Understanding the bond Lassie had with her people, they were of a community that is not welcoming to animals in their home, nor the regular traditional lifestyle of most. Lassie made her life living under the stoop of the house in a state considerably warmer than Minnesota and tending to the daily chores with her people in rural setting all the while being the wife's sidekick and enjoyment to allow some motherly instincts to share with her fur child. When Lassie's lady owner fell ill, the couple was banished from their community simply because her loving husband wanted to seek medical care outside of the community for his wife. He went against tradition, and upon seeking this care, the wife was diagnosed with an end stage cancer. News that no family wants to endure. They then travelled north to Minnesota bringing Lassie with them where they stayed with friends/relatives until the medical condition continued its path and worsened. They were asked to leave as it was too much for the others to endure and watch. They were offered to return back to their relatives here in Minnesota but they were not allowed to bring Lassie back since they already had pets of their own. The expectation was for the husband to take Lassie out to the field where nobody would witness a last moment with the dog, to dispose of her, and to bury her. There is no need to explain how, because it didn't happen. The husband couldn't do this to his wife's fur child and the love that she had for this dog regardless of her condition of no longer communicating as the cancer is spreading. This older couple had made friends outside of their community when they lived in the warmer state and the husband was communicating via traditional mail of the situation and their tear felt decisions they had to make with the forks of life in the way. It was because of this beautiful friendship, the loving couple outside of the community began taking the burden away searching for rescues for Lassie. Some rescues were full, but then the call came in here at NWMNAR, and the story was relayed. There was no hesitation, room was made regardless, Lassie had a place to go. The worry put aside in the husband's mind to no longer have to do the unthinkable and the guilt he would have felt towards his wife, especially considering her condition and peace could be felt by all. The friendly couple drove up to Minnesota to retrieve Lassie and speak with their friend, and delivered Lassie to the rescue late October where she now resides and is looking for that special person who has the heart to open to her and embrace her as well. She arrived with a simple surrendered signature of a loving husband whom let go of a dog that meant so much to his wife and was a part of their family and had the courage to stand up for his wife against all beliefs of his community and to do what was right for their fur child and give her a chance to be someone else's pride and joy. He too, will have to find a new place to go when his wife passes, and we hope and pray this will help comfort him. We wish for Lassie as well to have a home where there is someone to keep her warm and tell her it's all going to be ok, when her world was just as much tipped upside down as her people, where life changes in an instant and we are never the same again. It's a moment to reflect back at the sacrifices some people have to make. While often times in rescue we assume the worst, when sometimes we just need to sit, listen to the story, wear their shoes for a moment, open our hearts and realize, sometimes we all need to come together and help in any way we can. We hope and pray for peace for this husband and his wife. And we are grateful to their friends whom so willing stopped their lives to find this fur child a place to go. Our hearts are overwhelmed and wish for peace for all. Fine Print: All dogs of NWMNAR are screened at the headquarters in Ada, Mn until they are vetted. They are then transferred to foster homes throughout MN and some into ND so they can get used to lifestyles with a family in a home. Adoption fee for an adult dog is $300 + Mn tax. Adoption fee for a dog over 3 years of age is $300 + Mn tax., pup/dog1 year to 3 years is $400 + Mn tax. Under 1 year of age $500 + Mn tax. Free adoption applications can be found on our website at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/NMA/Dog. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN weekday and weekends, or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, MN on weekends only. Once we receive your submission, our application review team will be in touch with you. Please have patience while they look over your application.

Story
Berlioz (meaning "little bear") just joined The Rescue Crew on Saturday, January 10. He came to us after being rescued by one of our partner organizations after being picked up as a stray, along with his brother Toulouse, on the PineRidge Reservation. Check back often for updates as we get to know these boys better.  First week update: Berlioz is settling into his foster home well. The first few days were filled with uncertainty as he made the long drive to Minnesota, was separated from his brother, and spent his first night alone. Now, he is starting to explore in earnest and finding his routine. He shows his herding dog heritage by staying right by foster mom's side, sometimes nipping heels gently  (probably no very small children, or a family who understand how to work with this). Berlioz prefers to have company. He would love to have other dogs to play with and shows excellent social skills with the limited introductions he's had with the other dogs in the home. He is also a world-class snuggles who likes to give hugs, kisses, and sit in laps.  Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption.  The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Application prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at www.RescueCrew.org. You can also access the necessary online adoption application here as well.  ##2629511##

Location: Minneapolis, MN Baxter is an incredibly sweet dog with a heart of gold. He’s gentle, friendly, and absolutely loves the company of other dogs. Playtime is one of his favorite things—whether he’s romping around outside, chasing his buddies, or enjoying a one-on-one game, Baxter is always up for fun. He already knows his basic commands and is learning more every day. He thrives in a group of dogs but does just as well with a single companion. Baxter truly enjoys having another dog around, so he would do best in a home where he has a furry friend to keep him company. Affectionate and loyal, Baxter is looking for his forever family—one that will give him the love, companionship, and joyful life he deserves. He’s such a good boy, and anyone would be lucky to have him. --------------- The best way to show interest in an animal is to submit an adoption application by visiting our website (www.rescuenetworkmn.org). Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, heartworm test (dogs), FIV/FeLV test (cats), dewormed, and microchip implant (including registration). Rescue Network is strictly foster based which means all adoptable animals are in a home and there cannot be a meet until an application is submitted and approved. We have no way of knowing the breeds in the animals. All breeds listed are best guess.
